Well I went out and got it and I have to say, It's really good! The only complaint I have about it is the map. It's just that, a map. I was hoping for more of a world that you walk thought (like WoW). I really like the battles, even though you might just be a level 8 you can still beat a level 11 something if you can outsmart it and choose your switches carefully.

I recommend you all go out and get it.

Does anybody have it here? What do you think of it? I have it on PSP, btw.

After the show I went out and downloaded the PC demo, and then spent the rest of the evening playing. I've never been a fan of those block-switching type games (Bejeweled etc) but the RPG aspect of this made it fun and addicting.

Same here! It's sucks it's not actually out for PC (yet?) though. I mean, I really liked the demo, although I didn't get quite as into it as I would have if it was the full game, because I knew It was a limited offer for now, but still. Hope it comes out for PC soon.

I was playing as a Wizard... I'm not sure if I just sucked at the game or if Wizards are supposed to be difficult characters to play cause I did die a couple of times...:o

Is there actually a penalty for dying? I couldn't realy find any.

I wouldn't play it on the PC, et really feels like a handheld game to me.

I don't think so, it seems to be more of a "you can't go on until you beat the giant rat" sort of thing.

agreed. im so happy i found my psp, along w/my puzzle quest, i cant remember ever just playing a handheld at home instead of my console machine

pretty good game, i am not at the point where i can think 1-2 moves ahead to get the gems in the right spot, who knows.

i do think there should be some sort of penalty for dying, but i guess it keeps the game flowing forward.

There isn't a PC VERSION yet and it seems there is no firm plans... this sucks royally... Thanks for telling me about the game. I don't have a PSP or DS so I will have to wait on the PC version... Or I just keep doing boring little quest over and over again.

I've been tossing up the idea of buying a DS for a while now, so maybe the lack of a forthcoming PC version will push me over the edge. I haven't done any kind of major handheld gaming since my Gameboy (the original one) days so maybe it's time to get back into it. hmmm...

Well, after all the crazy hype about the game coming from the guys at TRS, I went ahead and ordered it for my PSP. Of course I'm a cheapskate and took the 3-7 days shipping option but at least I'll be able to join in on the fun. Now, you guys better come through on this review or I'll have to start reviewing on my own! :)

I just discovered that you can siege cities, but I'm not strong enough to beat one yet. Well at least the one I tried, I only tried it once and it was three levels above me and I brought it down to half health.

I have puzzle quest, and I agree that it is good. The only qualm I have with it is how small everything is on the bottom screen. I often accidentally tap the wrong jewels.

Another game I just picked up is Advance Wars: Dual Strike. This game is totally addictive! Its sort of a cross between Age of Empires and Civilization. Basically a turn based war game. Sort of makes me feel like I am playing Axis and Allies. Definitely the best game I have bought so far.

Just got Puzzle Quest for my DS (took me forever to find it) and I too love it.

Only thing that gets annoying is how lucky the AI can be sometimes (chains upon chains of extra turns), or maybe it's just that I'm bad at puzzle games.

No, I agree. I get really frustrated when I knock out a block and oh, what pops-up, 2 +5 Skulls in perfect position for another +5 which then chains into 8 other things. It can get really annoying. BTW, I am playing the PC Demo.

The only thing that bothers me is that the bad guy seems to always get to go first (is this a level thing?) and they ALWAYS get to string together several series of skulls on me. that doesn't feel fair somehow. I'm probably just bitter though.

I'll have to get back into this game soon, on the mission where you have to beat this ogre boss with two heads, really annoying will have to train a bit with side quests.

But I also have to freaking play some other DS games I have that have stacked up, Phoenix Wright:JFA, Lunar Knights, Hotel Dusk.

Playing as a warrior sucks, IMO. If I were you I'd start over as a knight or a druid.

I try to do all the side quests at a town first, then continue with the main story line.

I'm pretty sure Warriors are the best class. Pump your fire stat, and once you get Deathbringer (lvl 30 spell), it's game over.

The Deathbringer spell description:
Randomly creates Skulls equal to half your Red Mana
After gems are transformed, the turn ends

That being said, I haven't played a Warrior yet. I'm a Wizard.

Also, I created a spell list if anyone's interested. It shows the spell name, description, mana cost, and how to learn the spell.

Once you get to level 30 with any class, it's game over. The computer gets, at most, three turns at the board.

Ok, I have been looking for an excuse to buy a DS and you gave me one with this great game. I have three consoles and a kick ass gaming computer but all I have been playing for the past two weeks is puzzle quest. My only complaint is there are only 2 save slots and I want to try all the character classes.

I just picked up the game for my PSP based on the three of you bastards (Alex, Jeff, and my boy Dan) and all of your glowing reccomendations. Now you have got me hooked so badly that I passed up sex the other night because I was in an epic seige on Drakenberg. Needless to say I lost in the end and my girl now thinks I am an idiot. My question for any of you that can help is how in the hell do you train your mounts? I have purchased the thing in my citadel to train them, I have beaten griffin, rats, bats, and other beasts more than three times, but the option to "train mounts" is unselectable in my citadel. I am all ears for suggestions. And Jeff, the PSP music is pretty dope, either we have vastly different tastes in video game soundtracks or the DS version sucks.

You have to beat them three times, then you go and engage another of the same monster and a capture option appears, play that mini game and you got your mount.

Training mounts only makes them stronger.

Sleep. Mode.

The music isn't bad on the DS--it's just that the samples are pretty poor quality and the loops are fairly short.

As a player of both the DS and PSP versions, I'm going to try to sway some of you to go a direction that may be different from the norm... and this is one of the few times I can honestly say this; the PSP version is better in every way. First, the PSP game is a lot harder... this being a combination of the better AI and that companion glitch. Oddly, I find that this glitch actually is a good thing whilst others might see it as bad. It makes the battles all the more epic... I can't count the number of battles on the PSP version that have been decided by single digit HPs remaining. The graphics are leaps and bounds better on the PSP... so much so that I almost can't play the DS version anymore. The PSP version looks and feels like the Bejeweled we've all played at some point in our various states of boredom, while the DS version looks like a poor flash port lacking seemingly unimportant things, like texture and depth. It doesn't sound like much, but its a big factor as related to level of enjoyment. The music in both games is repetitive, but addictive. It's a rarity that I don't catch myself humming along to that chillaxing tune. And when it gets down to the nitty-gritty, the music and sounds adapt. It's a strangely immersive experience. To wrap up my nigh-fanboyish rant... and this is a real surprise, I even find the control scheme better. It's a bit of a hassle to navigate the map, but in actual gameplay, the stylus isn't very accurate and I found myself always taking extra time making sure I've got the right gems highlighted.

Anyone else tried both?

And if your mount is a higher level than the enemy, you can skip the enemy entirely by selected cancel when you're about to fight them.

Oh wow really, I didn't know that, pretty cool.

You can use that to really easily collect gold. Seige Enmouth, Bartonia, Gallia and Drakenburg, get the Vault, get your mount to level 16, then keep going back and forth between Enmouth and Drakenburg, skipping enemies along the way. You get 2000-3000 gold per minute.

That being said, I don't necessarily recommend doing this. I did it with my Wizard, and finished the game without spending any level up points - I just bought all my skills - but it's not as fun as just playing normally.

I had to go to 3 stores to find it. Last place (Virgin Megastore) had two which was great because I was out to buy one for myself and one as a gift.

Great game on the DS with the touchscreen. As for the music, I mainly play with the volume off. It doesn't add much to the game.

The game is hard to find. I went to all four stores that sell videogames in Santa Barbara and none of them had it, I finally found it in a target that is one hour south of me, and i got the last one.

The game is pretty fun but i find it difficult to follow the story. It is definitely a nice change from the typical violent kill everyone game and it definitely helps pass time in between classes... ok, and during class too.
