View Full Version : How can Alex Albrect actually call himself a gamer...
and STILL not own a ps2?
Lets be serious, the playstation 2 had the largest and best library of games probably of any system ever.
Him not having a ps2 means that he has not played games like...
MGS2
MGS3
Ratchet and Clank
Jak
ICO
Shadow of the Colossus
and many many more...Thats pretty sad

I'm a gamer and I dont own a PS2. PS1 had better games. Heres my stuff, with a few things left out, like Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 which I just bought off ebay 2 days ago, and Parasite Eve for the PS1 that I found at a game store down the street. Minus my PC stuff as well.

not having a certain system doesn't mean you can't call yourself a gamer, I think being a gamer means that you have love for videogames.

Isn't a gamer one who plays games. It has nothing to do with what consoles ya got. He could just own an Atari and still be a gamer.

well sometimes puppies have to die when the internets is involved...for you see its terribly serious business
but honestly i really just think you owe it to your self to try get a ps2...some of the best games of all time were made for that system and as a gamer you should probably experience them...
oh and frodosringfinger awesome collection
but i dont understand how you can be like wow MGS1 was fun by I have no desire to play any of the sequels...this goes for any of the games that originated from the psone

The Metal Gear series so did not originate on the Playstation one

Sure it's not Metal Gear Solid but Metal Gear non the less.

As Steve Carrell said in the office, "Wikipedia is the best thing ever, anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject, so you know you are getting the best possible information."
Geez gotta love The Office. I agree with shakermaker saying that being a gamer is having a love for video games.

I agree. This is basically a guy saying that Alex shouldn't be a gamer because he doesn't/didn't play the games I like. It'd be like saying someone isn't really using the internet unless they use google as their primary search engine.

I know this is pretty much a done deal, but I have more than 250 games: my collection can be found here: http://www.gamespot.com/users/satori/games_table?mode=own
now you can see that it's almost entirely PC games. I consider myself a diehard gamer.

In Conclusion, not owning a PS2 does not mean that you are not a gamer. If this was true, then that means that owning a $4000 PC with the latest and greatest for gaming means that you're not a gamer because you don't own any consoles.
Alex Albrecht is a gamer. The End.

I consider myself a gamer... hell, I make a game for a living. I only own a Gamecube and a DS right now; I get more play time with the portable than anything else. Point being, it's not about collections, it's about a love for the medium.

LOL love the office!! these days with consoles being so $$$$$$$$$$$ often gamers have to choose one console, then move on once they'ved saved up. or tax return.. as for me I'm a student so I'm lucky to even have 1 console!! I should be studying but damn, just one more acheivment!!!

**** the PS2. I was more impressed overall by what Microsoft brought to the table with the Xbox than what was on the PS2. There were some great games on the PS2, don't get me wrong, but for my playstyle and what interested me, the Xbox was just the more enjoyable console.
Granted, I've never been a huge Final Fantasy fan...they're good, but not system sellers for me. The same can be said for the other Sony attrations, like the MGS games, or Gran Turismos.
At the end of the day, you're dropping the money it takes to be a gamer, so you should certainly buy and play what you want to, and for me, Xbox > PS2.

Ok.....I had a PS2 and I didn't have an xbox1....which means I've never played Halo 1.....but I'd still consider myself a hardcore gamer. (and this console generation, I've got a 360 and no PS3, yet again, still a gamer) That's like saying how dare you call yourself a comic collector if you only read independents and not Marvel or DC. Ridiculous.

I think Alex was/is a PC gamer at heart. The xbox probably appealed to him more than the PS2. Owning a specific system doesn't make you a gamer, playing games makes you a gamer.

OK, lifetime gamer here. I've owned the following systems over the course of the years.
Pong, yes, Pong
Intellivision
Atari ST
Commodore 64
Nintendo
Super Nintendo
Nintendo Gamecube
Nintendo Wii
Gameboy
Gameboy Advance
Playstation
Playstation 2
Playstation Portable
Sega Dreamcast
And you'll notice the intentional leaving out of Xbox. Eventually, when the prices drop, I'll get a Playstation 3, but I don't feel I'll be missing anything until GTA4 comes out. In the meanwhile, I'll thoroughly enjoy my Nintendo Wii!
Gawd I feel old...
gi_josh

Representing the dreamcast as well, nice. I still play my dreamcast, and I've got quite the collection of *ahem* backed up games.
knight42
04-13-2007, 09:27 PM
The Dreamcast rocked. There were so many great, innovative games for it. I also, sometimes still play it. Heck, Typing of the Dead was a lot of fun! But Space Chanel 5 rocked and ah, shoot, I'm forgetting the name right now, the one where you spray paint everything, ahhhh, I feel like a moron. But, of course, it was one of the first to have Soul Caliber, a reason to own the Dreamcast! And Shenmue, and Power Stone, and I could go on and on.
gi_josh
04-14-2007, 01:12 AM
That spray paint game was Jet Grind Radio, or Jet set radio if you were in Japan. and yeah, it rocked. Just played it yesterday.

I was a huge Sega fanboy back in the day. I have owned the following systems.
1) Atari 2600
2) NES
3) Sega Genesis
4) Gamegear
5) Nomad
6) SNES
7) Saturn
8) Dreamcast
9) Playstation
10) PS2
11) XBox
12) PSP
13) Nintendo DS (not DS Lite).
EDIT:
14) Gameboy
The Nomad I think was one of those systems that very few people had. Play your Genesis games on the road? Awesome!
knight42
04-14-2007, 04:58 PM
...I almost forgot, I had the Sega Genesis also. Heck, I think I bought it mostly to play Sonic the Hedgehog. The blazing speed of that little bugger!
gi_josh
04-14-2007, 10:48 PM
I wish I had a nomad, even today. I'd play the crap outta that thing. I did have a game gear though, which, besides being a battery black hole, kicked major butt.

I don't think you need to own a PS2 to be a Gamer. There's a bunch of Sony "Fanboys" that i'm sure never owned an X-Box. It's the love of the game really, not the hardware.

I'm a gamer and I never had a PS2 or an XBOX and my computer is a Mac :P
My first computer was an amiga 500 in 1987 on Launch :):)
I also owned these gaming systems.
Sega Mega Drive (I'm not American ;) )
Sega GameGear
PS1
Every version of the GameBoy, Up until the GBA. I only had one version of that.
PC engine GT
Various spec PCs until 1997, then I went Mac
Sega Dreamcast
N-Gage (I also had, Gameboy, MegaDrive, Mastersystem and Gamegear emulators running on the thing) Asphalt Urban GT was a really cool racing game.
My Old Nokia 6630 could run a SNES emulator and Mario Bros. ran fine on it :)
My Sonyericsson runs only Java games, but beside Ridge Racer and V-Rally they mostly suck balls.
These days I haven't got much time to play games, but I still play Street fighter games on MacMame a bunch and play Burnout and Star Wars games with my little Brother on his XBOX360
I wouldn't call myself a hardcore gamer anymore by a longshot, but what's wrong with being a casual gamer?

I myself also do not nor have I ever owned a PS2, and I am most certainly a gamer. Although I will say, ever since I bought a PS3, I have been playing all the PS2 games I missed while playing my technically superior XBOX and XBOX360. And while the games I missed, like God of War and Devil May Cry 3 are awesome, so were Halo, Ninja gaiden, and Jade Empire. So no, owning sony products is not a prerequisite for being a gamer.
