Every great once in a while I get a taco bell craving. There isn't one near me, I have to drive quite a ways. And I like to take it home, not eat in the restaraunt, so it gets cold by the time I get home. And cause it's so cheap I buy a bunch of it and wrap it up for leftovers. And they take plastic, unlike other fast food around here, cause I never carry cash...
Any way, after that one trip, I usually don't go back again for months.
Also, i'm pretty immune to tv ads, but when their commercial advertises something new that looks good, that's what usually sparks the craving.
I am typing waaaaaayyyyy too much about Taco Bell. Especially since I just got home from a friggen amazing Greek Easter dinner, Baked lamb, Olive salad, Spanikopita (sp?), and our new homebrew...
Mmmm, someone needs to start greek fast food joint. Gyros!!! MMMMmmmm.

As far as fast food goes, In-n-out is the only fast food I have. I have standards (you know, not wanting to get fat) so I stay away from others always and try to resist in-n-out

Sonic isn't have bad.
Same with a Five Guys, I don't know how big of a franchise they are but there are a bunch around here, they make all the food fresh in front of you too.

Only thing I like from the Bell is the nachos and the things that are a folded tortilla with chicken or steak, spicy cheese and cut into four pieces. I rarely eat there maybe once a year. If I choose a fav fast food it would be Krystals. Otherwise I am all about pizza.

Lemon rice? Never had it but sounds awesome. I love any lemon stuff for some reason. Both in main courses and desserts. Got a recipe?

Hmmm. Lemon/sugar is good for dessert stuff, but lemon/pepper is what I use to flavor chicken, and such. maybe that's it? (not the lemon pepper that is mostly salt. lemon pepper that is all lemon and pepper as God intended)

Despite having a wonderful lamb dinner tonight I am sooooo jonesing for a gyro right now. We got some good ones here in town, but when I was in florida last summer went to greek fishing village. That gyro was freakin unforgettable. Huge, juicy, spiced just right...
And must have lemonade with a gyro. Or maybe some other mediteranian fruit juice. It's one meal that I'll skip over a beer with. (well, that and breakfast. On weekdays.)

Well, I'm Mexican, so obviously I've had better tacos, but honestly, I've never eaten from Taco Bell. Never seen the point since tacos are my staple anyway. I prefer local tacquerias (taco bars). There are like three good ones all in about a three block radius from me. I live in Chicago, so I guess that's why there're so many authentic places around.

Taco Bell is absolutely shitty.Come on ... give Klitzy a break. In Virginia that's as close to Mexican you are going to get.
There are MUCH better fast food Mexican places out there, Pollo Loco (provided you like chicken), Del Taco, and Chipotle are 3 that spring to mind, but Taco Bell will be the ultimate winner in the franchise wars, so get used to it.
My favourite? I used to go to Del Taco for lunch sometimes in SoCal - their soft chicken tacos rock, but I really miss The Blue Agave ... its not a chain, but a proper sit down Tex Mex/South Western restaurant (in Yorba Linda) and we have had nothing on their menu that we didn't like.
Any mexican place in Old Town "The Birth Place of California" San Diego is also good. Casa de Reyes dos great taquitos and margharitas, and Cafe Coyote y Cantina does a great brunch with fresh tortilla's.
===
Onto burgers ... In-n-out ... double double animal style. <drool> Unfortunately its a SoCal, Arizona thing (Nevada too now?). Five Guys do a great burger too (we have one in our local food court) - fresh (not frozen) juicy meat cooked when ordered, with toppings you want on it (bacon, grilled onion, cheese, tomato, lettuce, BBQ sauce for me) and real fries (not french fries - cut a little thicker ... more "potatoe" taste). Did White Castle on a road trip once ... never again.

I use to go to Taco Bell until people started dying a few months ago. I haven't ate there since. Even the commerical with the president or CEO telling me that it was okay to come back wasn't enough to convince me.
Need I remind you all that Taco Bell had the dream, Martin Luther King Jr. just stole it.

Actually, T/B had a outbreak of E Coli. around here recently. Nasty stuff. It was actually the lettuce.
T/B is no better or worse than any other fast food. It certainly beast yet another McD burger. I like Sante Fe chalupa, however they don't make them anymore.
Making you're own Southwester Food is fairly easy. Taco meat or refried beans stuck inside tortillas, baked, fried toasted... whatever... Really, you can do it...
Do we need CAC?

In-n-out isn't just in socal, its up here in norcal and also Nevada (soon to be in Utah as well). And yes in California you can get authentic mexican food, Taco Bell cannot compare to it.

Okay, I can't stand a thread about Taco Bell in specific because it's gross and I always have to make myself throw up after eating it or else my I get really bad stomach pain. So Taco Bell sucks. Got it? Kevin's right. It's the bottom of the barrel. It's not even Mexican. It's Suxican. So. No more on Taco Bell.*
So. What places do you like getting fast food tacos and burritos? Del Taco is pretty good, but Taco Time is my fave. The nearest one to here is something like 600 miles though. Out in the hell-hole that is Winton, California, is this Mexican food place that gives you way too much for way too little, but DAMN is it authentic. Not meaning to sound racist, but that's probably because the people who work there ARE from Mexico. As in they learned it first hand and grew up with it so will know what the hell they're doing. And even though it's fake, I also like Baja Fresh and love it that my company caters meals and sometimes, like once in a blue moon, orders in Baja Fresh. We need a taco bar.
Where are some other good places?
*The last on TB, which also stands for tuberculosis: SF locations: 200 Duboce Avenue, 691 Eddy Street, 1881 Geary Boulevard, 1610 Jerrold Ave., 4150 Geary Blvd, 7 Drumm Street. They are pretty much there for tourists who don't know that there is much better REAL Mexican food down alley ways, which is where all the best food is.

That's a rather graphic reaction. Nevertheless, I maintain that Taco Bell is no worse than KFC or Wendys. All fast-food basically sucks.
Nevertheless, you are correct. A little investigation is bound to turn up pretty fantastic and inexpensively southwestern fare in almost any location. I suspect even Virgina. Indeed, I took my last girl-friend turned wife to a place such as this on our first date. That was 1993, but I spent about $20 after the tax and tip. Of course, the fact that she doesn't drink liquor helps. The service was reasonably fast but not instantaneous, which is perfect for a first date. The food was delicious and the not-chain-restaurant feel added to the special quality of the evening.

When I lived in SoCal there was a group of us that would do "Taco Tuesday" ... and find a different hole in the wall Mexican place to eat each week. After awhile it settled down to a couple of favourites that were in regular rotation, with the occassional Thai or Indian place to add some variety. But since they were all grad students (myself and one other spouse were the only people with a "real" income) the fact they were cheap was an added bonus.
Taco Mesa (Costa Mesa / Newport Beach) was a clear winner.
Taco Factory (also in Costa Mesa) was also a good call.
Super Mex had good chimichunga's.
Someone mentioned that the key thing about these places is that the cooks are all Mexican. Hate to break it, but the kitchens at most restaurants in Calfornia are staffed by Mexicans to some degree. Our favourite Indian place was owned by an Indian family, but a peek into the kitchen showed more Raul than Raju.
BTW - Mexicans? Actually they were Americans (for the most part). Not Mexican Americans, not Latinos ... but American citizens making a living.

Boca Grande is the best in Boston for burritos and taco. I think there's only three in town. Doesn't really fall into the fast food category. Sort of a step above what you'd think of as fast food, but it isn't a fancy place either.
For the most part though I have been making my own Latin food at home. I found a great cookbook called Healthy Latin Cooking and I've been using it a couple times a week. Way beyond just tacos. Has both simple and complex recipes.

I used to try and schedule flights via Philly (if it was an option) so I could go to Flamers in the airport food court. They were great, but can't have been that great since they are not there any more :(

It's fairly decent pizza for really cheap. It's on Brookhurst and Garfield, in the strip mall with McDonalds and Carls Jr. It's near Ebisu Super Market. And yeah, it's still there. I live out near Temecula now, and we'd go back when I was attending Fountain Valley High School, but I visited in January and sure enough it was still there.
Don't worry Klitzy your not alone I love the grilled stuff burrito and that apple empanada is really tasty (I'm Hispanic and I like Taco Bell so that says something about how good it is)

I really don't see the problem with Taco Bell when I eat it. I don't over speculate and say "WOW This Lettuce has .5% MORE shit tasting shit in my shit taco then the regular shit burger at any other mexican food restaurant". All the food tastes the same to me unless they undercook something, which dosen't happen. But I guess on a rating, I like Del Taco more.
And I don't see why In'-N-Out is so great. I had one about a week ago and the buns tasted like paper, while the meat tasted like something else entirely. Maybe im missing the option on the menu where I order "Yeah, i'd like it NOT to taste like my last night dierreah" or something.
TacoBell is a last option choice, late at night when everything is closed and you just smoked two bowls.
Other than that their food is not good.
