I posted a few days ago about a site I'm planning to start. I think that MediaTemple and GoDaddy are the two server options I'm going to choose between. I would be using a virtual dedicated server on both, so thats the (dv) on MediaTemple. Let me know what you think of these services, and if there are others you think are better. Thanks in advance.
ElectricalBurn just brought up a question which I thought I should answer here. It will be a video site similar to revision3.com in terms of having videos available for download and viewing on the site. So it needs to be fast, available for a lot of people (potentially), etc.

Doesn't MT give you a better deal? Like $20 monthly for a ton of bandwidth?

That's with their grid-server (gs)option. I've heard there has been some problems with it so far. The (dv) option starts at $50 and goes to $150, with scalabilty (as far as I know). We'd rather spend $100+ in order to have a better up-time, etc.

Yeah, I've been hearing things about that, going down, yet techcrunch is hosted with them and many people praise them. Show us what you're looking at for GoDaddy and MediaTemple specifically, in terms of what you're getting and price.

The following link is what we're looking at for MediaTemple. There are three options, we may start at the low end and move up when we need to. Also, the site mentions that buying more capacity, etc is possible for any of the plans.

The following is what we are looking at for Godaddy. Once again three options, could move up when we need to.

I hate GoDaddy's site. I can't make sense of it. Go with MediaTemple.

I hate GoDaddy. Horrible marketing that attempts to upsell you every product they offer when purchasing a domain along with selling your home address to their "affiliates" to snail mail you fake bills along with phoning your home at least three times a day if you never answer.
Go with (mt) and save yourself.

Any company\or their affiliates call you after you order something is annoying and really not worth the trouble. I put up with it where I order my cigars they call and try to get me to join thier clubs and what not.

MT has 24/7 support. Like, really. It's a more personal company, I have reason to believe. A ton of people on the 9 Rules (http://9rules.com) network are with them.

So it looks like MediaTemple is the way to go. More comments are still appreciated.

I've heard some stuff about MT though, so maybe check out cachefly or Dreamhost (heard stuff about them too) or even midphase.

Cachefly is much more expensive for similar bandwidth, and Midpahse doesn't offer enough bandwidth. I've heard A LOT of band things about Dreamhost, so I'm trying to stay away from them. Dreamhost does offer a lot of bandwidth, but they don't have a VPS option, only a dedicated server options which is $400.
MediaTemple has had some problems from what I've read, but from their Grid-Server system which is not what we'd be getting (although I'm sure it would be connected somehow). Also, I've heard the problems came from too many people signing up too fast and MediaTemple not being able to handle it. Hopefully by the summer it's all sorted out.
Dave.

Well, with GoDaddy you get something off with the codes on Diggnation.
