Hey Hey!

I know most people are into podcasts, however, I was wondering if any of you guys are into shoutcast.

For the life of me, I can't seem to get the last part to work, I can get the server running, all my plug ins and settings are fine, but having people connect just doesn't go through, blah.

Is your firewall blocking the port?

The only thing that should block it is a firewall...don't know anything else.

I have used it before both with winamp and with some broadcasting software (cant remember the name >< ) to stream to a few friends of mine. I would love to really get into that sort of thing but ehhh :(

Make sure your firewall / router has the open port. Also it is a good idea to change the default port because like my ISP they block the default port for Shoutcast.

Also unless you have a BIG upload rate like 5meg up or more you will only be able to hold like 2 to 8 listeners at the most. I know with my 1meg upload I can get 6 before it cuts out.

Also you will eat a lot of bandwidth if you stream to a lot of people but since you can't handle too many it might not be a problem. I know I ran a shoutcast on a dedicated server that had 1tb of bandwidth a month and I used 600gig of it up within 24 hours streaming to over 100 people. So think about it. I think there is a site that will calc how many people you can stream and what amount of bandwidth you will use.

*EDIT*

Here ya go.

You can calc listeners or bandwidth needs.
