I can't believe you guys said that. Seriously, Goldeneye was never overrated. Yea, if you go back and play it now you'll probably be like "this isn't that great, i've played it all before." You know why it feels like you've "played it all before" because Goldeneye basically started FPS on Consoles. But when it first came out it was seriously epic. I remember having groups of friends come over or go over to their place and just play for hours and hours.

Also, Halo didn't really add anything new, however it did everything really well. Sticky grenades are not new, in Goldeneye remote mines would stick to players. Having melee isn't new, yes goldeneye had knives, even throwing knives.

However, I have to agree with Alex. Halo is great... for consoles. As a PC game it's crappy. There are just so many better PC FPS out there, but for a console game it's great. I seriously think that Halo is overrated. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's not this crazy epic game like I hear almost everyone saying.

I Cant remember how many time we had 3 hour games drunk off our asses using nothing but "knives and slappers". It's not just a classic, It's the Goddamn Progenitor.

remote mines were the shiznit. I agree that goldeneye isn't overrated, however, for someone that has never played it, but has heard the game hyped up his whole freaking life, and THEN goes to play the game, no doubt he'd be a little underwhelmed. it's just how things go. The more people hype things, the more you build them up in your head, and the farther they have to fall when you are faced with the reality of the game.

What? Firstly, nobody is discussing the consoles. We're talking about two games. Secondly, GoldenEye was for the Nintendo64.
Halo is on the Xbox and on PC.

I've discovered that most people's reverence for Halo is linked to the appreciation of the XBOX console itself.

In any case, I was only worried about opening old wounds.

Old wounds? wtf are you talking about? Suddenly a thread mentions an Xbox game and it's all about ps vs xbox? If we were on digg, I'd bury your comment.

this thread is completely about how they somehow think that Goldeneye is overrated, but that Halo isn't. Not much more to that, unless your reasoning is that they'll come in and be like "we owned XBoxes and never had a N64"

Actually, I was thinking about "Tomorrow Never Dies" a PS1 title. Posting before thinking to much about it is an occupational hazard.

Halo & Goldeneye are two totally different things when you think about it.

Halo was billed as one of the top Xbox titles, and well people enjoyed it. Its not a bad FPS by any means, but way too many people call it "The best FPS" and stuff like that. I'm sure most agree that Halo as a PC title would not have anyone running to the store. When Halo was announced for the PC people were excited and everything, only to then realize it only works as a console game... hence it first being a console title.

Goldeneye was not only a great FPS, it was also a title based-off a movie! That is easilly one of the things that make Goldeneye stand out for me, the fact that people even forgot it was based off a movie. I even remember hearing people "Hey they made a movie about Goldeneye!" constantly when the game was mentioned. The game had it all, graphics (for N64), gameplay, story, music and lets not forget once again that its a movie game, which adds a whole other level to it.

Overal both games are good in their own way, but Goldeneye really shouldn't be called overrated because it trully is not only one of the best (console) shooters of all time, its also one of the best movie videogame titles of all time.

Oh and just so everyone knows, (I know you probably do). That PC means Mac.

yea, that may be correct. But it had major changes and overhauls before going to XBox, it's not like what they did with Halo to put it on PC, which was just making sure it ran on PC. My point being that the final product is an XBox game, not a PC game that's on the XBox.

Oh, I forgot that Bungie was one of the few Mac game developers. Wasn't the original version of Halo a RTS game or some such of a thing.

I wonder if Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo:_Combat_Evolved#Development) knows...

It's good to see I wasn't the only person WTFing over this.

I was in love with Goldeneye. Forget sticking remote mines to people, I would have as much fun stacking them on top of each other and shooting them to make them explode. And those exploding chairs. Ah fun times. Simple, fun times.

Godlesswanderer, I used to do that too. But there was just something so awesome about sticking a remote mine to someone and waiting till they were somewhat alone and blowing them up, and then hearing the guy sitting next to you go "WTF just happened? I just blew up!"

I always remember playing as the short guy so that I could run up close to someone and they couldn't hit me. Fun times. Goldeneye may not be epic, but it drained away many weekends of my life.

Yeah. He probably did get owned in Halo. Everytime I play a game, I'm like "oh oh, I hope it doesn't own me." Because then the game suck. I mean, once Pacman owned me, and I was like "damn you pacman, stop owning me" but then I went to the store and bought pacman, and then I owned it. It was pretty ownage.

dude, I've play Halo, it is fun. but I also didn't own an xbox or 360. It's hardly about "getting owned by it." Seriously, playing Halo reminded me of playing Goldeneye. And my view of Halo isn't that it sucks, but that it tends to be overrated. And particularly that the guys on the show think that Goldeneye is overrated.

What made both of those games was the multiplayer. I don't remember what console Goldeneye came out on (Dreamcast? Nintendo?) I just remember not playing it on xbox.

Halo was great because you could connect multiple systems up to play 16 player. I've been a part of some great capture the flag matches. The vehicles and the sticky grenades made the game fun.

I was a huge fan of Unreal Tournament (PC) and Counter Strike (PC) back in the day. The halo and goldeneye games were fun because you could bring that multiplayer feel to a console.

And I may get flamed for this but I'll say Gears of War is over rated. The game was fun, but the story was too short. I'll stick to playing Rainbow Six Vegas over GoW any day.

I get that Halo for xbox was an entirely new era in console gaming, but Halo for the PC appeared derivative and entirely repetitive. By the time it hit the PC the graphics were completely out of date, and I'm glad I only paid 10 bucks for it as any more and I'd of publicly burnt it.

GoW is overrated, I agree. But like Halo it brought som excellent new things to the genre.

I don't want to play a shooter without cover mechanics, it's so cool.

Goldeneye had an awesome singleplayer campaign too though.
