Another comics podcast crossover!
Itching for more X-Men talk? Ron had the distinct pleasure of joining Brian and Rob, the hosts of The Uncanny X-Cast on their show this week. If you head over to their site (http://www.uncannyxcast.blogspot.com/), it doesn't say anything about Ron's appearance, but subscribe to their feed or find them in iTunes and he's on the latest episode - episode 18 - honest.
If you're an X-Men fan, then you definitely have to listen to this podcast - they do a great job and Ron had a blast appearing on it.

Cool. I'm gonna check it out.
I think it's episode 18 that Ron's on though (though they're talking about Excalibur 17).

It's downloading.
Conor, when are you going to get on an all bat cast?

It's downloading in the background as I type. My problem with adding podcasts is that I never add just one. Also added the Crankcast on the recommendation of the Around Comics guys.

Two and a half hours? Yikes. For my tastes - that's probably too long for a show.
Ron comes on at 00:47:00. I'm about to listen!

Conor - For the record we agree it's WAY too long :) *As editor, I agree doubly* We'd been on hiatus for 3 weeks with Brian having another baby, then got carried away with Ron's interview.

Cool Ron. Just listened, and I agree with u on Astonishing (don't mess up a good thing). By the way u liking Uncanny and them liking adjectiveless, pure hilarity. By the way, how can u not like Emma.

By the way i did wanna say on the note of Morrison's run (which i was not that big on),i think the main issue it jumped to far ahead in the future in a matter of months. the whole evolution and mutants out numbering humans thing.

Hehe. There's some Humberto Ramos bashing on the Uncanny X-cast. Wait'll Fred hears this.

I can't waitThey specifically point out the terribleness of that scene with the needles & Rouge's eyeball seeming to pop out of her head.

That was a great discussion, Rob, Brian, and Ron. Again we see that X-Factor seems to be the common thread uniting all x-fans. Rob (or was it Brian?) also brought up a really good point about how old school fans seem to generally dislike Morrison's run while new fans seem to really like it. I never noticed that until he pointed it out.
I gave both Adjectiveless and Uncanny nine issues to hook me (which is way more than i usually give a series), and i guess it just wasn't for me.

I'm an old school x-fan and loved Morrison's run.

Comedy gold.
I also lve Morrison's run and my favorite stretch of Uncanny is Claremont's first 60 or so issues

I didn't hate Morrisons run,i actually just bought his "Assault on Weapon Plus" Trade. I do think he over did it,and i'm not a Xorn fan. But he gave us some cool elements.
And why am i the only Bachalo fan, granted i think i'm the only Generation X fan also. But this just acknowledged i'm the only Bachalo fan. Darn it.

You are not the only Bachalo fan. His run on Adjectiveless got me reading that title. Yep...I LIKE his work, and I like his design for Rogue.

I'm a regular on the X-Cast board and I have to say I'm in the minority by actually liking Ramos's artwork. I enjoy the style but think that if anything, he suffers by the colourist choosing colours that are too bright which really add to the cartoony look of the panels.
Great interview Ron!

I don't dislike Ramos either, but I do understand why people don't like his work and can accept their reasons. I even agreed with the X-cast comments about how sometimes it's not 'serious' enough for the content of the story.
My only real problem with Ramos (and Bachalo to a much lesser extent) is that their sequential storytelling is a little fuzzy at times. I find that their panels don't always flow together nicely and the action can be a bit confused, but I do like the look of their individual panels.
I'm assuming this post will be followed by a lot of Ramos hate...please note I'm acknowledging people don't like him and I can appreciate why.

got to finish listening tonight--I gotta say, it was great to finally hear Ron just let loose on the X-men. So often on Ifanboy we hear about Ron's love of X-men, but we never hear him get to really talk X-men. I really dug it.
this was entertaining. I may go back for more. I'm intrigued by the concept. it was REEAAALLLY LONG though

Dude...that show was awesome.
Or rather, the hosts were good and then Ron showed up and it became awesome.
As for too long? Nope, not when we're talking X-books. :)
Though I certainly wouldn't mind if the iFanboy podcast went longer than it normally does. Y'all are entertaining as hell.

A longer iFanboy podcast would be cool. As for this one, I'll probably go back to the beginning and start listening. The length is a bit much for me though. I'll probably split the episodes in half when I listen to them.

is this the regular length of an uncanny x-cast? because i'd be interested in an all x-men podcast, just not 2hrs worth

That's a long one for us - we usually do the show bi-weekly, and it clocks in around 1:30. Lately we've run long a bit because Brian had a baby and my wife is pregnant, so our posting is more sporadic and times all over the place. We gave up trying to adhere to a strict time limit.
It was good. I want to stress that. I just think it was a bit lengthy. I'm interested in listening to your trek through x-history

That show finally crystallized for me what it is that drove me from Carey's X-Men. It wasn't the Ramos or the Bachalo or Thaddeus Q. Cable's Fantabulous Flying Machine; it was the lineup. Ron doesn't see them as a cohesive team; I have trouble seeing them as X-Men at all.
Mystique? Sabretooth? Lady Mastermind? Effing Cable?? Were there not enough X-Men already to form into a team? Even Cannonball seems weirdly miscast to someone who last saw him when he was hanging out with Cypher. It just seemed like the book had the wrong cover on it or something.

that only happens at dc

Hey HankScorpio--great show. I didn't even know about your podcast until your interview with Ron--I'll definitely check it out again. I'm pretty much the only person I know who actually kind of enjoys Adjectiveless X-men--so it was nice to hear your take on it.

I like some issues, but others i can't stand. sometimes the art really ticks me off, but im not a ramos or bachelo hater, just some issues it was either hard to follow or extremely exagerated. so far, i liked the first arc, didn't like the second, im digging the third and i really enjoyed the annual. but im also a big x-fan, so even an average issue for me is pretty good IMO

It was very cool talking to Ron about adjectiveless, and subsequently you all on the forum about this. On our forum which is obviously filled with x-obsessives, Carey's run is 99% loved while Brubaker's has been received far worse. I think me and Brian got very high on the Carey arc with the Children because it was nice to have a new, very powerful X-villain who was not Magneto or the other usual suspects. I think the Pandemic arc took a step backward but was still interesting. Seems like it was doing more to setup for the run towards 200 then anything else. I'm hoping to love Brubaker's post-space story more than I've been digging it currently.

I think Brubaker's run will read much differently in trade--I realize that is no excuse, but I just get that vibe from it. I think the machinations and political movements will read better when you can control the pace at which you read the story.
As for Adjectiveless--what I've loved about this arc is that it's brought back the feeling of the X-men as somewhat dangerous and existing outside the norms of society. I also find the theme of 'infection' running through these stories really interesting...it plays into current fears certainly.

Wow, you all weren’t kidding with the length of the show. Beastly, but I definitely found it very entertaining and I enjoyed everyone’s take on the x-books. I was glad that you all were on different camps of several of the issues (ex: Brubaker’s run) b/c I wanted to hear both sides of the issue. X-cast, you’ve got a new subscriber!

The X-Cast is wicked people. I suggest you all give it a shot. It's not normally that long. The interview with Ron is perhaps why it ran long cuz the three had so much to say.
