ya, i've never been to one either. i wouldn't mind going to one because they sound really fun (panels, sketchs/signings, and finding that elusive back issue) but in reality i probably will never go to one. none of my friends read comics so they would never go with me and i don't want to have to put my girlfiend through that, and there is no way im going to something like that alone, so cons are pretty much out. i'll just live vicariously through you guys and podcasts i guess:D

Went to my first con this year (Wondercon in SF). It was pretty fun. I got to see one of my favorite prose authors (Christopher Moore) and favorite comic authors (BKV), picked up a couple books, met some Bends Board forum members in person as well as several other artists and writers. All in all, I'd definitely go again, though I might bring someone along to chat with.

I've got a question about Cons too. Which ones are considered the majors or the most anticipated? I'm familiar with NY, San Fran, SD, and Heroes. Which others are worth going too?

Wizard World Chicago is pretty major.
As far as which ones are worth going to, it depends a lot on what you want to get out of a con.

Six - What is that?
Anyways, I've never been to one either, but am considering Chicago b/c it's the only one close to the Midwest. I went to a "convention" in STL a few months back and it was the stupidest thing I've been to in a while.

I forgot about Chicago. That'd probably be the one for me since I've been wanting to take a trip there. As for what I want out of it, I'm not exactly sure it's all new to me.
I went to my first this year(NY). It was great, but then any excuse to get irrationally drunk in a city I don't know that well is.

Don't need a con for that.

Okay, it's um. I guess the best way to describe it as a conglomeration of 11 days of Basic Training, West Point attendence and Summer Camp cranked up to 11.

This is the first year I'll ever live remotley close to one and I'm definitley hitting it up, I've never been crazy about the idea enough to fly to one specifically though. Maybe if I was a little less shy and thought I might actually talk to some of the creators, but in all reality I'm probably just going to walk around and check things out passively. Still should be fun though.

Does anyone actually have any info on who's coming to the Chicago con? Wizard's site is a circular mess and I can't seem to find much about it.

I just went there to see if they'd updated and spent 10 minutes trying to figure out what was going on. Someone needs to get their crap together.
the only listings I can see on their website are Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan and John Cassaday

The last time I went to San Diego was in 2002...I had some "control" issues and had to eat Ramen for two weeks after I got back and could barely pay the rent. That's unfortunately not an exageration.

If you're just getting started, going to one of the less insane shows might be a good way to break yourself in to what they are like. I'd recommend something like Heroes Con in Charlotte (in June) or Baltimore (in September). Pittsburgh isn't a bad choice either, although it's this weekend.
All of these are smaller, a little more intimate, and not quite as intimidating as San Diego, Chicago, or New York might be. But don't be fooled--they also have teriffic guests who are very accessible.
Hope that helps.

Welcome. The baby steps idea seems reasonable. I've never been to one yet and Chicago might be my first. I'll probably be overloaded with comic stimuli and be found having a breakdown in front of the convention center.
