I keep thinking if i should go buy it or not. GH2 that is. 79 bucks is a lot for a game. I am still stuck with a ps2 but i have been pondering in getting a 360 since the ps3 is getting trashed by everyone. I am a PS guy but the 360 looks and plays awesome. Anyways question is should i get the GH2 for PS2 or just get the 360 and GH2? Any insight is welcome.

it doesn't bother you that sometimes jump between lead and rhythm guitar? how about in the song girlfriend( which is one of my fav songs of all time) where you jump from lead to a steel guitar?

thats the good part about guitar hero, you dont need to be able to play guitar. its actually a little better if you cant cause then youd be wanting to play the actual song, not the guitar hero version

Yes, the guitar hero series is pretty awesome. Plus its considered a skill if you can master it on expert, so more bragging rights for you.
When it hits the Wii this fall, I am seriously going to buy it the first day and rockin out. :D

Well maybe not for you because you play the guitar. But if you play on hard next to a person who plays on expert, it makes you feel bad cause it looks like you suck worst then you really do.
But then again comhcinc you get ultimate bragging rights because you can actually play a guitar.

It's reaaaally fun, but I found playing by yourself gets old fast. I did it enough just so I wouldn't get schooled by my buddy, then I would generally only play it when he was over. Although, of course he was playing by himself still... so he still generally kicked my ass. In short, I never bought guitar hero2.
russell1740
04-18-2007, 06:54 AM
Well I don't know if you would call it a skill...a talent maybe?
But you get the idea that Guitar Hero takes some sort of "advantage" to advance in the game. Its not like Wii sports where all you do is swing, you have to have a technique to hit all those fast notes which requires some sort of skill/talent.
Guitar Hero is great but whenever anyone says that it helps them play the guitar it makes me puke in my mouth. As for the ps2 vs the 360 version it all depends on how much kicking your friend's butt on the leaderboard means to you, for me it is worth it.

I don't think there's any way it could help with the actual mechanics of guitar playing, but it couldn't hurt to help people get a sense of rhythm.

Guitar Hero is one of those games that when you play it more and more you get really good at it. Like me, for example, I've had GH2 on ps2 since Christmas and right now I can pretty well beat any song (barring Free Bird and a couple of bonus songs) with 5 stars on expert... And I've only played like 30-an hour since I got the game, except right when I got it, I spent almost the whole first day just beating normal mode and unlocking things.

Yeah thats what i am afraid of. That it will get old. because if you think about it really, all you are doing is hitting buttons and with a real guitar you can do a lot more. still looks fun to play. I am going to get the 360. I am done with PS.

Yes you can, and it doesn't get blurry either! I love the Wii browser, good for the times I don't want to turn on my computer to check something real quick.
As for everyone playing guitar hero 2 at best buy you haven't experienced lag? The guitar hero 2 for xbox 360 creates a lag (At least at my local Best Buy) because the HDTV has to process the audio and video so its delayed. I tried the calibrating lag option on the settings and it doesn't help. Anyways, Its funny how people gather around to see someone owning it up on Guitar Hero.

It does have a bit of a lag, but I've played Guitar Hero 1 every day since I had gotten it, up till I got Guitar Hero 2, took a break from that because of the rush of games. So the lag really doesn't affect me to much, I'm good enough to gp by the music track.

Love, love, love GH2!!! So much fun, even for those who aren't 'gamers' by nature, much like the Wii. We had 'rookie' friends over last weekend and they had a blast, picked it up pretty quickly. Gets even more fun when you get a few drinks in you. ;)
Going to go get a 2nd guitar this weekend so fiance and I can jam together :D
The lag hasn't bothered us, don't really notice it.

It's a good game, that I have been anticipating for a long time. It is however in my opinion not as good at everyone makes it out to be, at least not to me. I would give it maybe an 8, or an 8.5. It's really fun sometimes, frustrating sometimes, and boring sometimes. (that song Jessica, anyone? I hate that song...)
I have to say however that I only have one guitar, I imagine it would be a good deal more fun if you have a friend who owns the game as well and you both play and get better every week. I don't have any friends who own a 360 though unfortunately, so it's just taking turns and they suck at it so yea, it's still fun, it's just not mind-blowingly fun or anything.
I would recommend to get it if it's on the top of your list, but not to expect for your entire gaming world to be changed, cause it probably won't :p
(PS- Yes, I do kinda suck, I find hard mode really hard in parts, and I easily get frustrated if I can't get something in the first few tries... so that's kind of a con for me too.)
(PPS- If you like the type of music in the game though, there are a couple of really good songs to discover that you might grow to love :D)

I played Guitar Hero II on the PS2 when my Aunt came down for a couple of days(it was hers). It was fun but I thought I got bored of it by the 2nd day. Since then I've been wanting to play it so badly! My Birthday is May 10th, So I'm going to ask my parents for the 360 version and a couple Microsoft Point cards.. Bad thing is I'm the only one of my friends who has a 360, So I really wish the 360 version had online MultiPlayer :(.

That's the same guitar and finish I use, lol Sometimes I use the black and red swirl one though.
Even more on topic though, it's an amazing game. The people who say it's boring are most likely playing on lower difficulties. Once you get up to hard and expert level it's even better!

As for the worry about it getting old fast.....that never happened to me. Unless you turn out to be insanely good it will take awhile to even beat the game on expert. Then, you want to try and get 5 stars on as many songs as possible. Using the site scorehero really helped to add longevity to me, too.
I'm kinda "meh" on the 360 version. A friend of mine bought it and the controller is just awful, but maybe they fixed that. I would kinda recommend getting the ps2 version.....then if you like it enough you could buy GH1, and just wait for GH3 to get a next-gen version.
Oh....and to the person that hates Jessica......I love that song. It's one of my favorite ones to play.

A lot of the guitars for the 360 version from when it first came out had some problems, not sure what with exactly though.
But I've played the 360 version on 3 different guitars and they all worked flawlessly and I was better than I usually am while using them.
Jessica's pretty awesome though, tons of fun on expert.

The problem I had with my friend's 360 controller was that the whammy bar moved. It does not stay in the place you put it in. I don't think that is very common though, but it was really annoying reaching for the whammy bar and it not being there. My friend plays left-handed and he said that the whammy bar would slide down and start hitting his hand while he was trying to strum.
And, just because, here are my scores on expert:

Here's the best way to describe Guitar hero. It's very much similar to a mario party-style game. On it's own, it's fun to play, but as soon as you end up getting every song, it's pretty much done. But if there is more that one of you there and you have two guitars, this game is a FRAKKIN BLAST!!!! It just does not get old. It's got a karaoke like aura to it.

i didn't read any of the other replies but from personal expierence, I would like to say that after getting ghII and playing it for many hours constantly, I just stopped playing it. idk, the replay value is high b/c of the pick up and play aspect, but i just sorta got tired of it and moved on. so, i would say that it might not be worth 80 dollars.

I'd have to disagree with you on that. After owning it for 6+ months is the one game that I still play almost an hour every day. I could see if you played it a ton all the time how it might boring after awhile, but that's also why everyone (that I know) is excited to see this rock the 80s game coming out. GH is one of those games that is completely different even if all you did was replace the songs.

I played GHII for a little bit but grew tired of it. Actually, when you get to medium and have to incorporate another finger into the mix...well, I was having some problems. I can't imagine what Expert level was like.
Anyways - I think GH III coming out so soon is not cool. I mean, I never bought GH II, I borrowed it off a friend - but he bought it for the 360 when it first came out. He paid $112 Canadian for it, and then not even 2 weeks later they announce a third installment coming out this Fall? With a wireless guitar? That's bullsh**. If people would have known that, they wouldn't have forked over the cash for GH II so fast. I know for a fact my friend would have waited for III if he would have known it was coming out so soon.
Bad form, Neversoft.

I don't think that they get to decide when the game comes out, the publisher does that.

Alright, bad form on whoever is to blame then. Be it the publisher or whoever.

Currently it would be Activision to blame since they are trying to force Guitar Hero down everyones throughts and ram it onto systems it doesn't belong on. But once GHIII comes out all the blame with be on Neversoft for screwing it up like they undoubtably will. They really haven't made a good game since Tony Hawk 4.
And is it just me or is the 360 GH controller seem a lot shorter than the PS2 one. I had only played it at Best Buy but it was extremely awkward and the Start, Back, and 360 button where placed absolutly terribly

Gun was an awesome game. Also I don't find the 360 guitar awkward, but I don't own it for the Ps2.

Gun was a "fun game". In that it was an amusing experience but it really wasn't any deeper than that. It was fun in the way that the DOAX games are fun, or fun the way GTA is if you don't do any missions and just screw around with the cheat codes, amusing but not very fufiling.

both Guitar Hero games are fantastic. I can't wait for the 80's edition. I honestly haven't found a game with this much replay value since Harvest Moon.

not every game has to be full of deep meaningful story to be a good game. sometimes something fun/quick/easy is all you need :D

That might be why you grew tired of it. I started playing on Medium, transition to hard was a bit difficult, but I got there. Then the transition to expert was fairly easy as there was no learning how to deal with another button.
IMO now and when I was playing on normal, easy is slow and boring. It should really only be used to teach someone the basics of the game. In general it's not that much fun. I definitely say the funness level grows as you get closer to actually playing every note, which means it's more difficult too.

Guitar hero is a sick game. I have it on ps2, but have played quite a bit on xbox 360. The 360 version is obviously superior due to graphics, sound, and in my opinion, a better controller. Also the promise of new songs is great(although current downloads rape your wallet).
That said, i will not buy the xbox 360 version until microsoft allows third party wireless controllers. Ive spent hours competing against my friends in my dorm doing "rock offs" which include judgment from peers on how well you can rock out while achieving a passing score. This is only possible with wireless controllers, and is possible the most fun gaming experience ive ever had.
Get on it microsoft. Get us wireless controllers.

You can download all the songs from GH 1, if I'm not mistaken - but the prices are unbelievably high. Something like $6 for three songs (or something close to that).

Our Totally Rad boys talked about this in an earlier episode, I believe.

And Jordan, which is the only song on expert I have not beaten, and probably will never beat.

There should be a song editor you could make your own custom levels with songs of your choice. Then you could share those songs. Probably wouldn't work.
