Why did I think this movie was pre-eighties (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084827/plotsummary)? Goes to show how ancient I am, I guess. Despite my huge crush on Mr. Bridges.

One of my favorite actors of all-time. His Fabulous Baker Boys performance still floors me.

Here are my two picks for awesomely cheesy 80s action movies:

Oh, god. Beastmaster, even the near naked, muscular tight body on that guy couldn't make up for his hideous face, horrible acting and the general craptastic dialogue of that flick. One of the few bad movies that wasn't even "good" bad...

And Jeff Bridges... Not just handsome, but one of the most under-rated acting talents of the last 40 years...

Good thing he's got that Big Lebowski cult hit to keep him alive forever...

Starman, that was a cool story.

See. Jeff Bridges again. If it wasn't for Harrison Ford, he woulda ruled the eighties.
Despite being twenty plus older than me still want them today.

And in starman you got to see his butt.

Oh, and
William Hurt in Altered States...

Truly Awesome. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080360/)

WOW. I seriously need to catch up on my 80's movie watching. I haven't seen half of these. I may have to turn my geek card back in soon...

I think that geek card needs confiscating until you've watched at least 90% of those films!

The first 2 Back the Future movies where it's at :)I'd agree to a point - it was a great trilogy, and best watched back to back. 3 was OK as well - but doesn't stand as well by itself.

Greatest 80's movie? Ferris Bueller's Day Off (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091042/). That movie WAS the 80's. 80's plus SciFi? Night of the Comet (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087799/) - movie so filled with 80's kitsch it is going to be studied as a classic in 50 years time.

The rest of the movies in Wes' list are good movies, but for the most part didn't capture the 80's - they could have pretty much been made any time.

For me, to be a great <insert decade> movie, it needs to be more than just a great movie. It needs to capture the spirit/feel of the time.

Who said the list had to be geeky and not girly Diva? Go on and add that Pretty in Pink! Ok, I will. And whoever mentioned Altered States, ooooh, that's so good. It was so scary to me that I didn't actually see it until the 90's!And Ferris Bueller being THE 80's movie Token? Darn skippy. My list (until I remember more):Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful, Adventures in Babysitting, Re-Animator, Xanadu, Grease 2

Umm...Raging Bull? AKA the ONLY movie of the 80s. (OK, I admit, 80s were great for geeky movies, as you've all mentioned, but as far as cinema goes, Raging Bull is where it's at.

Does anybody else hate/dislike Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller's Day Off? Everybody I know loves those two movies. I found FBDO incredibly boring (I actually never finished watching it) and thought Breakfast Club was cute but forgettable. I don't really understand why they're so popular.

The Raging Bull cannot be put on a list of great 80s films, but rather a greatest films list. I feel when categorizing a film as an 80s flick, you are generally talking about those films that capture the time... think John Hughes (which btw ladies I'm right with you about Pretty in Pink, what girl doesn't deserve a Duckie). Raging Bull is timeless. It's Scorsese's best film (in my opinion).

However, if we are talking about "80s" flicks, Just One of the Guys = AWESOME. "Go 'head Ter... show him your hairy chest." Classic.

If we're going to do things that way and I can only pick one film. I think I'd probably pick Karate Kid. While it might not capture the whole essence of the 80s, it definitely captures a piece of it.

I can still remember how psyched I was as a kid after watching that film for the first time and then running upstairs and attempting to do karate moves in my bedroom.

LOL you guys!
Say Anything is about as perfect a romantic movie as you can get. And Ali, when you find your Lloyd, can you make sure he has an older brother so you can send him my way? I think I've ruined relationships because the guy is not more like Lloyd.
