This is my favorite book of all time...and this is what I found on IMDB today.

Hollywood actor Eric Bana is to star alongside Rachel McAdams in the film adaptation of the best selling novel The Time Traveler's Wife. Bana will play the lead role in the movie, which tells the story of a time traveling librarian who falls in love. It was initially rumored that Brad Pitt was up for the role, but Bana, who has impressed in films Troy and Munich, has won the coveted part. McAdams was last seen onscreen in 2005 in three films: Red Eye, Wedding Crashers and The Family Stone.

Rachel McAdams is perfect casting in my book.

What does everyone think of Bana though?

I look forward on hearing Jeff's thoughts on this.

What does everyone think of Bana though?Bana is a great call. Forget about "The Incredible Hulk" - he was well cast in a bad movie, but as an actor his standup comedian background allows him to deliver his lines with perfect timing.

I think the brooding nature of him as Bruce Banner will play out well at the Time Traveller in the title. He was great in Black Hawk Down, Munich, and Troy.

I'll dissagree there mate. Bana was good in Chopper, and that's it. He was funny in full frontal, but IMO I've seen planks of wood out act him. I really didn't think much of him in Munich. He definately has the Hollywood man look to him, but he definately is no real thespian, and people shouldn't cast him in roles where he doesn't speak in Australian.

I would say Heath Ledger is 10 times the actor Bana wishes to be.

I tihnjk we are going to have to disagree on that :)

Bana was brilliant in Munich - but I wanted him to put on a beanie and slip in "Poyter". Agan, in Troy, he played the troubled, brooding character.

If the character calls for someone with a furrowed brow, an the weight of the world on their shoulders, Bana is the man the play it.

I can't comment on Chopper - never saw it. Can't imagine Chopper Read is much on brooding navel gazing though.

Put asside any opinion you might have on Chopper Read, and watch this film. It's a very gritty film and I knew Bana as Poyter aswell, and in a way it kinda is that character again only as a mean murdering kind of way and made me look at him in a different light. It's one of the better films to come from Australia in the past 10 years.

We won't agree on everything though. I thought Munich was a bad film on many levels. Although I like Geffory Rush in anything even bad films like Munich. Now there's an amazing actor.

Saying all the negative things about Bana. Let him speak australian and you have the next superhero action movie star. He'll beat Russel out and be a trublue aussie, unlike that Kiwi hack Russel.

I actually think this is great news. I probably wouldn't have thought of Bana right away, but now that I do, he seems like an excellent choice. I just hope they do justice to this story... it is an amazing book, and a REALLY great choice for the TRS bookclub if many of you haven't read it yet.

I haven't read it and will put in on the list of options for June's (or second half of May's) read!

I love this book and think it's wonderful on so many levels. When I heard Brad Pitt's production company was working with the movie rights I was very excited. I agree that Rachel McAdams is perfect for Clare. However, I'm very skeptical about Eric Bana. He always comes across as very wooden in everything I've seen him in. He's also too large and imposing for Henry I think.

If I had the power to cast the role of Henry I would give it to David Tennant. He has the perfect blend of quirkiness you would find in a punk hipster librarian and broodiness of someone who deals with all the hardships of Henry's life. He can switch modes so flawlessly without making it seem forced. I think he's also a better physical match for Henry.

Either way, I'm still looking forward to the movie and I hope they do the book justice! :)

I agree that it would be an excellent choice for the TRS bookclub.

This is the only thing that saves this choice for me, Token. I, for one, LOVED Hulk. Yes, I said loved. Eric, in my opinion, played the angst just right in that movie and I really liked him in Troy as well. That being said I think he's a wee too good looking for the role.

I turned my best friend on to this book and long ago we discussed who we thought would be good fits for the role. We thought Julianne Moore would be a good Claire, but alas she's too old for the role. Not mad at all at Rachel McAdams, the girl can turn on the faucets and is likable.

Henry we thought could be played well by Paul Bettany. Sorry, but Eric doesn't look like any librarian I've ever met, otherwise I wouldn't bought that copy of Cat's Cradle.

I read the book earlier this year (after Jeff mentioned it), and I absolutely loved it. It's actually one of the best novels I've ever read.

I recently heard about the film adaptation, and I am worried about the casting (namely Eric Bana), the screenwriters (The Notebook?), and -- to a lesser extent -- the director. I was really hoping that when I went to the IMDB page, it would say someone like Alfonso Cuaron or Fernando Meirelles directing. I hope they all prove me wrong, however, and make a great film.

The thing I am most excited about is the fact that Mychael Danna is doing the score. He's amazing.

Interestingly, the film is coming out within a week of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button -- which which it has many similarities -- and I heard that, a while back, David Fincher and Brad Pitt were interested in doing The Time Traveler's Wife together but jumped over to Benjamin Button. Now they will be competing for viewers.

Or not. Brad Pitt apparently doesn't think it will be a problem, because his production company (Plan B Entertainment) is co-producing TTTW. I wonder which one will be more popular.

(I am certain Benjamin Button will be a better film, because it will, as I just said in another thread, be the best film of 2008.)

Funny enough, my mom's been trying to get me to read it FOREVER. It's probably her favorite book.

I never really thought about it but the dude I had pictured in my head as the time traveler while I was reading the book definitely plays as Eric Bana. I'm kind of stoked. I hope it's half as good as the book.
