Episode 28: Water Reflections

The universal solvent is back yet again. One of its great properties is its reflection of light. In this week's episode, Bert reflects on how to make photo-realistic water reflections whether it be up close or from a distance. Not only does he reflect, he demonstrates ... watch and see.

So, why is Bert reading a script at the beginning of the show?

Was it just me or did he go WAY to fast on the far away water reflection section? It almost seems like he doesn't want to have a longer show for some reason...

There were parts where he was like: "OK, I have this alpha channel here, this filter here, and that there ready to go..." and he flipped through it so fast, I couldn't even see anything.

Made that section almost totally useless. I don't feel like going back and digging through all the episodes and trying to catch the exact point I need to watch just to maybe figure out what he was talking about.

Bert, perhaps you could just VERY briefly go through your set up? Even if you just have the camera zoom in on your table and go: "OK, here's the set up" and you just do it, I can always slow it down and copy what you've done, and you won't have to spend a bunch of time going over it again...

I dunno, is it just me? Anyone feel the same? Why does no one post in this forum for Pixel Perfect?

i think it was good. a nice easy tutorial on showing you how to do reflections in 3 ways. if hes going too fast, all you have to do is pause it and think, or go back a little. other than that, i learned something new. :)

maybe the reason why you think hes going too fast and you dont get it is because you do not know the basics of photoshop.

hello bert,

i didn't like the first one. the cracks in the pavement went upwards after the water was on it. not very realistic. hmmm... and the drop ripple, well, it wasn't realistic at all. sorry, that one was not a 'monroy'.

second one was nice. please do not explane fx that were delt with elaboratly in other videos. the speed was good, and if you are watching the videos, play at home, you know that you can use the displacement filter for other ripple fx. the videos are still downloadable.
and for those of you who do not want to play at home: tough.

third one: nice.

thanks for the great tutorials!! MAKE MINE MONROY!

can I add plastic wrap highlights somewhere else, other than in the middle of the picture? like the glow coming from the top right corner, or even ad more highlights in the same plastic fx layer? anyone who can help, please answer.

And I am eager to find out if you ever finished your tablelightreflection picture, that you wanted to do for photoshopworld 07? what's the news on that?

but since you don't read this, why am I even bothering? *pout *lol

greetings from mannheim germany! (the home of SLAG from Jim Lee's wildcats comics)

I don't think his intention is to make this amazing effect during the show as that would take to much time. The idea is to give you an idea on how to accomplish an effect, and you make it look more realistic later by tweaking it the way you want it to look.

I agree. Someone who hasn't seen some of his other stuff might see the first example and think it wasn't that good but I think it was aimed more for newbies. His personal and professional work is way better.

Everytime I watch an episode even I feel like a newbie because I always learn something. I can't wait to get out of work so I can go home and try something I saw here.
