Just watched the latest episode and I was seriously thinking about buying a MyTelly until I heard all the bad things about it.

So does anyone know a great alternative for this? The best feature that it has is the ability to rip all your DVDs onto the HDD and be able to browse through a list of album art and instantly watch it. So does anyone know of a product that solely does that, and does it well? (as for nice, user friendly interface...and a reasonable price)

I'd love to see one too. The only one I know of is http://www.kaleidescape.com/. Unfortunately it's like $20k...a tad pricey for most.

The company I work for has set up a few Kaleidescapes for clients and they ultimately end up dropping about 40k for everything.

I just posted a way to do something similar with an AppleTV in the main thread for the episode. It may be of use to some of you. Quite a bit less expensive than the $899USD price tag of this one thing.

do you get menus and everything, or is it just the movie?
BTW, how easy was it to do the hack? I might buy a Apple TV if it's not that hard to do.

no you do not get menus (who cares really) but you can get chapters in the mp4 file if you use HandBrake 8.5b1 or newer and check the checkbox for it. The hack was fairly easy. It helps to have an intel mac with the install disks lying around with an external USB drive. There are step by step directions I can point you if needed.

can u do the hack w/o a mac? i read on EnGadget about the DiVx and Xvid hack that you need a mac for the first step.

it would be tricky but you could use a windows machine running OS X86 to do it . Having a mac makes it much easier.

I have a D-Link DSM-320, wireless media player. No HDD, but it streams everything very well with the TVersity servers software.

I was kind of disappointed that they only covered 2 media players. and that they were split into two segments. Really guys, I would have liked some more products, even ones that didn't act as servers but would just stream.

Sling Media is supposed to introduce the Sling Catcher mid 2007 for under
$200
I am interested in this and would like to see it reviewed when available.

I am seriously looking at MyTelly entertainment center however I just read your post and I would like to know what bad things? I am looking for a media center simular to the telly unit that will allow me to add disk storage via USB or Fireware. Also I would like to be able to as a NAS unit so that the files can be shared via a lan.
