Not sure if this is a trust worthy site but I found it on digg. Wanted to know what people though.

I buy it. Despite what everyone says about letting it die strong, there's too much money on the table

well that is unless this one sucks and it doesn't make a dime.

Even if this one's awful it'll make enough money to purchase talent for Rob Liefeld. It's money in the bank.

This is going to be an enormous amount in the Box Office for opening weekend no matter what...but will a fourth one make its money back?...I'm thinking it'll risk that a little more.
Plus, if one of them says they're up for it, that doesn't mean that it will happen, because all Raimi, McGuire (I struggled for a few seconds to not call him "Parker"), and Dunst have all said that they are a team. If all of them aren't on board, then it's not happening...
that won't stop Gyllenhaal and some shitty, second rate director from doing a fourth, though...at least not in my opinion.

the possibility of the fourth movie being bad hasn't even crossed my mind.
EDIT: i mean third

I was talking to a co-worker yesterday and she told me she read that Spider Man 3 is not as good.. I said I don't expect it to be... I try not to.. I'm contemplating doing midnight screening...

oh, it has recently started to cross mine. I used to gauge my graduation from ucla by being after Spidey 3...like if someone died today, it would be like, yeah he died like 2 weeks before Spiderman 3...
but recently, I'm very worried about the storyline. How they'll incorporate all the characters, and how it will go over as being a universally good movie, like Spidey 2 did.
It seems like 3 will be a largely fan-oriented film, and I'm just afraid with the alienating audiences it won't be well-received and might dig itself too deep into its own continuity and not have enough time to tell an emotionally important story.
*sigh*
it's like getting cold feet before a wedding!...i'm looking forward to this way too much.

I'm not even looking forward to this. My anticipation spiked when that 7 minute preview popped up online, but at this point it's sort of flat-lined. I just don't care about this movie anymore.
That said, bring on Pirates 3 and Knocked Up.

i'm not really too excited either, but i would be shocked if it isn't quality. the last time i was REALLY excited about a superhero movie was batman begins and i suspect the next time i get that worked up about another one will be its sequel.

Bite your tongue! 2 rocks! If one is ever in Calfornia and plans to go to Disneyland, one had to go on Pirates of the Caribbean! I highly recommend it to be the first ride you go on!
I loved 2 and i'm looking forward to 3 as well along with Transformers.. Isn't Fantastic Four coming out this summer as well?

i still haven't seen pirates 2 and i don't think i was meant to. i tried 3 different times last summer and it was sold out each time.

Brian's correct in that unless Spider-Man 3 gets the worst reviews in the history of cinema, it's going to have, like, a $100 million opening weekend. It's going to make a lot of money.

I think that even having bad reviews wouldn't stop it from grossing tons of money at least on its first few weeks.

Sorry, I thought it was horrible. All of the good parts were in the first one. All the second one was Johnny Depp mugging for the camera.
the trailer for Pirates 3 during Grindhouse last night was met with jeers of 'sellout' and 'ridiculous' but they were only coming from me
I miss being able to respect Johnny Depp

Pirates 2 was disappointing, but I still like it. The porblem lies in there being too much story in one flick, and that's only because it wasn't originally intended to be a trilogy. 3 looks like a lot of fun. Hopefully a return to the quality of the first film.
Calling 2 horrible is real hyperbole. It's great spectacle even if you didn't find anything else of value (which I did).
I'll take mugging over whatever it is they're doing in the Spider-man movies. Over time I appreciate them less and less.
Just my opinion.

Who am I kidding. I'll end having to see it because the wife will want to go and I can't say no to her. Maybe I'll get lucky and she can go see it with one of her friends and I'll be spared both Johnny Depp and Keith Richards.

without a doubt, like kwok said, even with the worst reviews ever, it will get soooo much cash. Shoot, I'm willing to see a Spider-Man MUSICAL!!! (see that thread)...Spidey's just a great property and unless we have a bunch of Batman-Forever style films...ew, no...MOVIES...the franchise won't die. And if you look at it, not even the Batman one did. There's always another chance. I think 3 isn't the end of the Spidey films, but it may very well be the beginning beginning of an entirely new era in how the public sees Spidey in general.
(As long as we don't get any neon/blacklight gangsters, or overacting popular celebrities...I'll be FINE)

I'll most likely see the films I really don't see any reason why not to. However, if the fourth one is bad then I will stop there is no excuse for it.
my problem really is that I don't want to see Johnny Depp in those type of movies. I used to be such a big fan that I even went out and saw obscure shit movies that he was only in for one scene before he was big. Now I don't care.

I'm not really surprised that they are going to push forward with the movies. Like fred said, there is alot of money on the table and they don't give a dam if they ruin a great story as long as the make a butt load of money.

It's just a cute cameo. Not a major storyline thing.

Yep, once he heard that Johnny Depp was channeling him for the role instead of Judy Garland, he was all over it. He plays Jack's dad.

The boyfriend (who can be quite the movie snob) loved Pirates 2. I really disliked large parts of it, like the completely gratuitous 20 minute fight on that waterwheel? Ugh. It makes the list of movies I was constantly checking my watch during, right next to King Kong and Orange County. He is also psyched to see Spider-man 3, so hopefully this won't be a pattern.
Then again I dragged him to see TMNT, so I guess we're even.

everyone keeps talking about "all the money" that will be made. i agree that if spider man3 is successful there will be a spider man 4 and if it makes money, etc etc etc. But it hasn't happen yet. yes these movies make alot of money, but they also cost alot of money. just cause sony has option 3 more movies doesn't mean they will be made. movies are option everyday in hollywood that never see the light of day. they are people who make their living writing scripts that never get made.
lets just don't count the chickens before they hack.

I wore a spider-man shirt to church yesterday to help interview our new pastoral candidate. He mentioned he was just at Walmart (or Target) and they had a dude dressed up as Spider-man and his son (2 years old) absolutely loved it. During dinner I went up to show him my shirt. Our conversation went something like this.
Me: "Terrence, do you know who this is?" (Point at my shirt)
Terrence: "Spider-man!"
Me: "Did you see him today?"
Terrence: (Nodding head) "Spider-man!"
Me: "What was he like?"
Terrence: (Still smiling a lot) "Spider-man!"
Any lost revenues from a bad review will certainly be made up via promotional other spider related stuff (toys, clothes, etc) bought buy little guys and girls like this:
