Has anyone read this?

I recently did and found it incredibly entertaining. Although, i do feel that it is a little "Death Proof" in that it starts out sounding a little too much like a guy who thinks he knows how women talk trying to write how women talk, but once you get to know the characters and their lives, the main character's relationships and ups and downs become a reason to keep reading.

The quasi-Watchmen-style magazines from the Ultra universe ending every issue/chapter are great. A lot of them are very much hilarious and great satires on magazines in general.

Either way, there aren't too many strong women in comics...well not ones you actually want to read and have actually emotionally-compelling stories to tell, but Ultra is worth a read.

It's not GREAT, but it's pretty darn good, and their art style is digital, but clean and fluid in a way that makes you feel like you're watching television in a good way. I don't know anyone who's read this. What do you guys think?

I've got the trade. It's quite good. We mentioned it briefly in this week's podcast (out tomorrow).

Oh, sweet. Didn't you find a lot of the dialogue a little trite, though? That's the only thing that's keeping me a little hesitant from saying I REALLY enjoyed it, or even downright recommending it.

I think you can definitely see that The Luna Brothers have some learning yet to do. But it was fun and it took some turns I didn't expect.

*Spoiler Alert*

I thought the book was really great, but am still hung up on the dialogue slightly. Very Sex and the City, but in a good way...yes, there's a good way.

Anyway, the main turn it took WAS unexpected, becuase you expect that boyfriend guy to be the arsonist guy, because the sleazy guy says Ultra will burn, but the book establishes its tone very early on in that it is not about an action book, but a story about a woman.

The biggest attack is not a huge monster or an unbeatable foe, it is an attack on the main character's social status. It's about a character who perseveres through her personal problems despite being an emotionally fragile public figure.

*End Spoiler*

So yeah, I think I liked it...good book. Read it!

I liked that show... Hmmm... Maybe, i'll look for it... I did like the Luna Brothers work in Spider Woman Origin.. Don't they write or do the art for Girls? Is that good?

Yes and Yes. It has a more "Lost"y vibe to it, but yes. At least the first 6 issues are, cause that's as far as I've gotten. Very real, relatable male lead character, but don't know how solid it's been since then.

Haven't read Ultra or SW:Origins yet. I have been enjoying Girls mightily though.
Don't give the ending away. I haven't finished it!

(nice to see some gilmore around here.)

I remember hearing about this on SuperheroHype!
From Wikipedi:
Television-
In 2006, a pilot episode was made for a proposed Ultra television series. The pilot was produced by Barbara Hall. It featured Lena Headey as Ultra (renamed Penny Penalosa) and was directed by Helen Shaver. While CBS and the CW expressed an interest in the series, neither decided to carry it.

The queen from 300 (didn't like the movie, but she was hooooooottt) as Ultra? Man, I would've been in. Also, I can't really see this as a TV show.

Let me rephrase that, I can't really see this as a good TV show.
