Can people with Blockbuster Access Passes play as well?

Currently sitting in the queue: Green Street Hooligans Charlotte's Web [WS] Unknown Good Year [WS] Guardian [WS] Four Brothers [WS] Stranger Than Fiction [WS] Last King of Scotland [WS]
Notes on a Scandal One [Special Edition] Ultraviolet [WS Unrated] Bobby [WS] Behind the Mask

BTW - I share my account with my wife. Ultraviolet was her choice (as was Charlotte's Web).

Currently out: The Night Listener Lucky Number Slevin

Advantage of Blockbuster? Sure I can drop the DVDs into the mail box for a pickup, but i have a nearby Blockbuster ... so I will exchange them in sotre for another two movies (whatever is on the shelves). It also give me a chance to look over the shelves and see if there is anything else to add to the list.

Oh yeah - I have 2 rental vouchers that are currently valid ... games or DVD's. If you have a Blockbuster nearby, this is a great deal.

My Netflix queue is not mighty. I'm too embarrassed to post it. There only about four movies and most of them are chick-flicks.

Maybe I'mm work on it's mightiness.

I wish there was a way to share the queue with piecing my anonymity.

BTW, there is a way to post an RSS feed of your Netflix queue. How fun would that be to post to your blog or something.

When you watch Cinema Paradiso--AVOID THE FRIGGIN' DIRECTOR'S CUT! The theatrical release is far superior.

Since I am new here, I don't know if this has been discussed but everyone should add "Primer" to their NetFlix queue. It has been out a few years now, but I still find a lot of people that have not seen it. It's about time travel but done in a very "real" kind of way.

Just thought I would plug a movie I really enjoyed!

Living in a college town, our store is actually pretty good knowledge wise. Old staffers (college freshmen?) who actually know about movies, and about upcoming release dates. Selection is reasonable, but we tend to use mail for new releases and instore for TV series and older stuff ... and I use coupons for games (take home, rip to hdd for modded xbox, repeat).

The BB vs NF opinions are mixed - almost to the point of OS/Console/Browser holy wars.

I don't really care, BB works for me.

I have to admit, when I started Netflix more than three years ago, Blockbluster didn't offer the online services , much less the 'bring it back to the store' thing.

Given that brick-and-mortar media outlets are not going to last forever, it's a great idea for block-buster to leverage their local stores to enhance their online market share. I'm not sure I'd select Netflix if I made the choice today.

Nevertheless, my experience with Netflix is excellent, but I have little else to compare it to. I have resented the Blockbuster fee structure, however I've never been a victim of it. I stopped going to any local video stores because the experience of going into the store and browsing for a video was aggravating. The online queue is less frustrating experience. The extent to which the online services can recreate what is good about the video browsing experience and not the bad aspects is remarkable.

My wife and I watch most of our movies on DVD so having new movies available is essential. We often have new releases sitting at the top of the queue on the day of release and they get sent to us that day.

They ability of get rare and older TV videos is also nice. We spend the summer watching older dead TV series.

I'm sure that Blockbuster is capable of providing the same service. However, until Netflix gives me a reason to switch, I'm a Netflix boy.

I've been pretty busy with Finals and just class work as of late so i havnt watched much but i have 4 movies out right now, all of which are HDDVD's.

Smokin Aces
Lucky Number Slevin
GoodFellas: Special Edition
Clerks 2

I really should down grade again(i had 5 or 6 at one point) since i havnt had time, but i know whenever i do so i will have lots of time -_-

I also have uh 118 things in my Queue but that includes a good amount of TV shows, and a few things for family and friends who have me rent them things.

Diva Dawg, the exact opposite goes from me here in the midwest. NetFlix takes forever and a day to get new movies.THe BB here has a pretty wide selection of titles to choose from both mainstream and slightly indie. I was really surprised to find "Intacto" on the shelves right there waiting for me after hearing the suggestion from dannyt on TRS. Do you think that there maybe a difference in selection by region?

We do marathons in our family. Cheesy, I know, but lets just say OCD runs in the family and we both get impatient to watch the next ep.

(I watched the entire Firefly series straight through without a break-thank golly for delivery).

I understand that. Our kids are too young for marathons. My wife and I only have about 2 hours a night to do the Netflix.

The last marathon we did was the 2003-2004 Christmas Break. We had just bought Firefly on DVD. My wife was six months pregnant and we didn't feel like doing anything else. This is also the last time we had days off all to ourselves.

I just watched Superbad from my Netflix queue and it was horrible. Ugh, I gave it 2 stars and that was generous.
Both my boyfriend and I are not the "uncomfortable" comedy types. I remember when Tom Green was on I always had to change the channel because I felt so awkward.

Anyway, next 3 on my queue are:

1. Little Miss Sunshine
2. Maxed Out

Ouch. It's compensating for all those years I spent using my huge penis to have sex with women instead of watch movies. Zing.

Anyone hiring ??? Anyone hiring people to watch movies ???? If so, you owe me backpay.

Bad. Finished it last night and even went through the majority of Tsui's commentary (with some Hong Kong cinema expert). It had typical Hark stuff in it, great camera work mostly, some utterly gorgeous shots, some of them pure gold, just seemingly unconnected to the content of the film. He sets a million things in motion and he only resolves about 3 of them. The biggest 'thing' was only a let down by the end. There were a few achingly cliched moments, the kind that make you gag, especially the villain. Random characters. Ppl that made me go "who the hell is that?", and after getting to know him, never seeing him again.

Action. Bad thing - "what just happened?". I said that alot. It had moments where it went all Jason Bourney and I felt I was about to see Sipowicz's ass if I saw anymore handheld shakey-cam. Especially with all the swords stuff. A swish noise, a slicing move with the cmaera and some random uniformed kid going "argh" and falling down. Other bad thing - anti-climatic. Final fight was a little bit standard pace. It was clever, but then it kinda got weird.

Action. Good things - Choreography. It was fuxxing insane. I said it got NYPDBlue cam occasionally, when it wasn't doing that, it was gorgeous. He does some cool stuff Dan, new looking stuff. He kind of locks on a blade tip as it kills a group of 8-10 men in one move. Looks like it was filmed high speed but then played at normal speed, I don't know but it had me cheering outloud as my view followed the blade swooping through people. He cuts some slomotion close-ups into those shots that show the blades simply splitting bodies in two. And I don't mean a stomach slash with a squib spray. I mean the single moment that the blades pass through flesh and that split second where the flesh is seprated from itself by the blade, in crystal clear quality.

It's worth seeing, for the action alone. The story is convuluded in a bad way and only mediocre at best, as the greatness of the plot is averaged out by the badness. Not as good a story as Once Upon A Time In China whch I think held 5 different stories in it very well. OUATIC was convuluded in a agood way. Great 'moments' in the story, but they are in between deep holes.

What, seeing them out of order?? I would not have ordred them out of order, but if one was unavailable they would have sent the next one. I remember one of them coming from White Plains NY and taking three days. I seriously doubt I watched them out of order though. I probbly waited to make sure I watched them in order.

Is that what you meant?

Do you realise that we were sitting a foot apart and screaming at each others faces all night? My voice was deeper the next day. The DJ was drunk, it's never been that loud. I stayed til 4am drinking and doing glasswashing, which they paid me $10 more than what I spent the whole time I was there.

No... just having them in general. You shouldn't admit to such things

I know mine was too. I went hiking with a friend and she asked if I had taken up smoking bc my voice was so much raspier than usual.
Glad to hear you earned your keep ;) (and mine too for that matter... thanks!! :D)

I like kevin james. and patton oswalat and leah remini. There are far worse things in my lists that I am actually embarassed about.

No problem, as I said, ended up $10 ahead for the night.

If you are getting this because you are a Audrey Tatou fan, get 'He Loves me, He Loves Me Not'. Good movie. If you're a HUGE fan of her, L'Auberge Espanole (the Spanish Apartment) barely has her in the movie and she kinda plays a bithc. It's an OK movie overall though, espeically if you've ever had a roommate situation, or have an interest in a foreign film that has at least 5 (maybe 7 if I recall) different languages in it.

I just got Netflix again for the first time in years. I have mainly been a buyer of DVDs for the longest time. But this is one reason I love it so much. If a movie even interests me in the slightest it goes on my queue and thats that.

Thanks for the reccomendations, Ill add them all.

I thought the main guy was kind of a prick. His relationship with Audrey Tatou was kinda shitty. (an improper pairing of actors and characters) I liked the movie, great idea mainly, but the character seemed like the one who would have been kicked out of the house eventually for mooching/using the other characters too much. I really liked the Europeaness of it, without being snotty. One minute of that film shows more nationality mingling and co-exisiting than 10 years at Ellis Island. To a certain degree, there is a far greater sense of humanity and brotherhood eminating from Eurpoeans.

You know they made a sequel right ? I never saw it.

hey so Knocked Up (last nights flick) kinda sucked.

I really liked that movie in the theater, but when I watched it on dvd didn't enjoy it nearly as much. I think the crowd really made the movie for me the first time. Now... it mostly just stresses me out.

That's why I said kinda. The first 5 mins I was clapping my hands with glee (what you gonna say about that claphaters) when I saw the cast that was in it. I loved they all played friends (and all are) and used their real names. OMG Joana Kearns from Growing Pains.. Yay, she looked great too. It was just weird that they never really showed Seth cleaning up. He decided to 'smoke less pot' as an act of effort to be Katherine Heigl's parnter. I guess he got his own apartment and got a corporate job, but where was the love between them, they grew to love each other in montages.

Great film. If you're the type that loves looking for references in later films, go ahead and re-watch the first 15-20mins of Austin Power 1 and 2 after watching Blowup ;)

I've got Star Trek in the queue now, catching up with Voyager before a TNG or DS9 re-watch (and of course, in anticipation for December)

Also, Die Hard. Just because.

I'm no TRS noob, I've been watching since ep1, I almost screamed when I realized they were doing a "The Graduate" homage (kind of the same reaction I had the first time I saw "Jakie Brown")

^ Wild America
This the story of the 3 brothers?? With Devon Sawa and Tool Time kid? Good movie.

^ Mystic River
Good, but I felt it was a little overrated, none of the acting was extraordinary. It was cast with extraordinary actors, being adept. Climax was "really?, oh well ok" for me, but it plays off like it's more, when neither the set-up or reveal was all that much.

^ American Beauty
If dysfunction is a function, then this movie is genius. I feel weird not finding Mena Suvari attractive, I had to look away during the nude stuff.

^ Road to Perdition
Blah, meh, so-so. Not good.

Hi! I'm new to the forums though I've lurked for a few months. I am also new to Netflix. Had the $4.99 plan for the 2 week trial and decided it was going to take way to long to get through movies, so I've upgraded to the 3 at a time for $16.99.

Well, I thought I would post mine here. I figured to save money, I'll get more DVDs through Netflix for movies I might only watch once instead of buying them at Best Buy for $5. Long list, so be warned. =P Also, I obviously like Disney and a lot of "chick flicks" even though I'm a 24 year old guy. =)

Honestly, I can't stand most anything Murray is in. As I was adding movies to my queue, that was recommended to me, so I added it. I seen Groundhog Day for the first time about a month ago. It was ok, but not great. =/ Ahywho, thanks for the input. =)

Great news for Blu-Ray supporters. Netflix is quadrupling its stock of Blu-Ray titles.

Bad news for everyone else, because as a result subscription rates are almost certain to rise.

Quoth chief financial officer Barry McCarthy: “It seems apparent that content will cost us more,” McCarthy said. “Whether we raise prices will be entirely a function of churn, subscriber acquisition costs and gross margins.”

"Churn"? Don't ya' just love bean-counters.

I actually thought Factotum would be great based on the idea and trailer. It was good quality, but just blah and left a serious meh taste in my mouth. Everyone does a good job acting, it's really well shot and there's some really nice lighting and color choices, and it's interestingly directed, but just makes you feel depressed. marissa plays a trashy bar skank and looks like an ashtray, and you can smell her whiskey body odour through the lens.

I'll check Before the Devil Knows You're Dead

Very underrated series. Some really good acting and clever film-making. My favorite is the one with Steve Zahn and Jerry Stiller. Another one, that isn't my favorite but is good, is one about a woman that gets trapped in the subway. It makes the viewer feel so weird and uncomfortable, which is good.

i actually saw this when it first came out on HBO when i lived in Miami. I had completely forgot about this. funny enough I was talking to a friend at work about KRS-1 and we googled his work and he is in this. So I started reading about it and saw this Roise Perez Mystery Girl (segment "Love on the A Train") and it totally came back :-) I was 17 when this came out enough said! I know live in NYC

that movie is fantastic and yes, very confusing.

Some movies have an "Oh, Snap!" moment in them (like The Sixth Sense...when you things come together at the end.) And while watching them again, knowingly the second time, is fulfilling... Primer is one that gives you that Woah feeling at different times over a few viewings.

I just started my Netflix free trial (compliments of www.netflix.com/trs) and I gotta say I was pretty upset with my initial results. I put Southland Tales at the top of my queue after the strong reaction from TRS and many other people, yet it never arrived. After waiting to the suggested day to report the problem I saw that I had successfully returned the movie and they were shipping my next one. No clue what happened, but I got All the Real Girls the next day from when I "returned" Southland Tales. No problem I guess, but I actually do plan on continuing my subscription because they have a ton of great titles. Here is some of my queue:

1. Southland Tales

Rad movie. I got it to show a friend who does crosswords, but I was not too interested, watched it and was glued 5 mins in. I loved the characters of all the people and the interviews were really good. Bill Clinton and Jon Stewart were great. Good extras on the dvd too. And yeh, the build up and finale was great.

I have to admit, when I started Netflix...

wow! you started NETFLIX... =] just kidding... yea i totally agree. My Dad and I, together got a membership soon after they started, and then canceled it due to the time it took to receive the films... but then I gave it another chance -- and I have never gone back to the ancient ruins of Blockbuster. It might also have to do with the gifts and bribes the guys at Netfix have sent us over the years...

So do I! I wonder if they have been pushing those live music performances in "Movies you'll love" since they were off my radar before that..now I will be watching the likes of Tweedy and My Morning Jacket soon.
I just finished watching Primer and Diving Bell and the Butterfly (which I LOVED)...coming up (besides the concerts) is: Bella, King Corn, Spirited Away and in TV: Curb your Enthusiasm.

How awesome Netflix is.

Just finished Firefly and the Serenity finale. Trying to imagine what an entire Series would have been like. It would have been a lot of fun. Especially if the budget got bigger. Saffron would have been a great reoccurring character. I love that actress.

About to finish up the second season of Avatar. The Aang Gang has grown so much. The season one finale was amazing, I expect nothing less from Book 2.

About to START Battlestar Galactica with the miniseries. I'm very excited about that.

That is all. End Transmission.

Bringing up an old post here, but whoo hoo King Corn! I work for the organization that co-produced that doc. =) Hope you liked it!

My Netflix queue is unbelievably long, but at the top are In Bruges, the straight-to-DVD American remake of the awesome South Korean film My Sassy Girl, and The X-Files: Season 1: Disc 1.

Not me. I get 4 out at a time and watch and return them as fast as possible, and my queue just keeps getting bigger.

I didnt find it that bad, it was a little cute movie for a family, but the end got a little hard IMO for kids.

The CGI was pretty poor an bugged me. but i like stephen chow alot and i think the kids did pretty well also.

My queue is currently sitting at 84, and I'm on the 3-at-a-time plan. I'm always surprised at what comes in the mail, because I don't keep tabs on my queue very well (unless I happen to rent something spur-of-the-moment that I know is on the list). At work I've also been keeping running tabs on things I need to add to my queue. The hubs and I are anxiously awaiting the Netflix/XBox update!

Currently:
Raise the Red Lantern
Lust, Caution
Into the Wild

Top 3 Queue:
American Gangster
Blood Diamond
Nancy Drew

(eclectic much?)

I wish I could do that. Very rarely do I get suprised, and it's always more fun that way, but I'm obsessive about organising my queue daily.

Into the Wild

Put some time aside for this one (long), and keep some tissues handy.

No, not really.

I have a tendency to move something to the top when I send one back. Not always, but I'm usually in the mood for a specific movie and want that one first, etc.

Of course, I have 282 on the DVD list and 206 on the instant list...maybe I should make time to watch more movies.

I make sure that I organise the top 6 ( I'm on 4 at a time, and put 2 backups in just in case) dvd's the night before I expect them to receive. I aim to watch documentaries and l ittle movies during the week, and long-ass tv series or epic movies on weekends.

It's good, gritty, dramatic. You might wanna balance it with something light. It's not worth watching on blu-ray though, there's nothing special about it visually. I mean it's shot well, but it's just not enthralling visual content.

Just signed up again and my wife made me add Radio to the top of the queue. After that I've got Me, You and Everyone We Know which I heard was really really good.

Is Wanted any good? I've been very apprehensive about ordering anything with Angelina in it... I got a kick out of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but Wanted looked to be a bit of a stretch.

It's good eyecandy...wasn't impressed with the story as it moved along, (which only got worse after I read the comic)

Watched it last night. I enjoyed it. Was a good popcorn shoot em up movie. Nice effects, some stunts I hadn't really seen before, so enjoyable overall.

Forever. But they only really ever advertised the 3 at a time. I hate the price difference between 3 and 4, it's too large. Will cost you $25.47 I think with tax. But still. I can do 3 dvd's in a night easy if they are light onspecial features, and if theres a 4th one to watch the next day while the other 3 are getting processed, I need that, as I said, no tv, no real internet streaming. And weekends, man, 4 is not enough for weekends for me.

Did you do that, 'upgraade to 4 for $1.50 and we'll send it friday', thing? I did that too. Mine was on a sunday night and it said it would ship monday. I clicked on it sunday night. Monday was a holiday, so they didn't ship til tuesday, then on tuesday, my fourth title was in NY, so on tuesday, all I got was an email saying it would ship wednesday which then took 5 days to get here, which was the day my membership renewed anyway - so the $1.80 or whatever, was completely stolen esentially.

Yeah, it was $6 something to upgrade immediately...or wait a few weeks for the next month to begin.

Of course, with the forums down for so long, I added a bunch more things to both of my queues too. I'm up around 313dvd/237instant.

Yikes. Hmm... this just made me realise, that you can't downgrade prorata. If you downgrade, it won't take affect until the month is done. Big queue dude. I used to be around 200, and realised how long it takes to diminish, so now I don't even bother adding stuff.

Tonight - Family Guy, Rules Of Engagement, Notorious Bettie Page, Jarhead.

I can't use watch now cus I don't have an intel mac.:(

Speaking of forums down - I was in the middle of a huge post when they went down this morning. FUCK!

OK, my Streaming to Xbox Queue has changed considerably.

After seeing this weeks TRS, I am hyped on pro wrestling again. (Even though I still don't watch todays' stuff.) I added all of the Smokey Mountain Wrestling stuff to mine. Seeing all the guys that made me learn and want to be a wrestler is awesome. Makes me want to do it again for the first time, since I did it the first time. Time to reconnect with old contacts.

This Netflix thing may be my rebirth into performance/athletics.
