With all the talk in the SWG thread, I figured I had better ask: what MMOs are you playing now, if any?

I'm a WoWer mainly. But I havn't paid the monthly fee, so my account isn't even active, lol. I have Guild Wars too, which is fun, but it's been a while since I've played that too, mainly because my internet connection is too unreliable to play anything online for more than an hour(if that).

If my Windows machine still worked I'd be playing DAoC still and would probably check out Vanguard since I've heard good things about it. EQ is still my favorite PvE game and every few years I've found myself back there. But Camelot has the best PvP I've seen on any game.
I just found WoW to be too boring after time. Maybe it was because I never found a solid player base to surround myself with but I also never got that into any of the toons I created. I've tried horde and alliance but none of the classes were as fun to other games I've played.
In EQ I've played a warrior, druid, paladin, rogue, and mage to high levels with several other classes in the mid levels. I truly enjoyed playing those. On Camelot it was a druid, bard, and bainshee that I loved to play. Camelot just had a lot to offer compared to WoW. The sieges were a lot of fun regardless of what class I found myself playing.
As I stated in the other thread, I'm still interested in checking out Warhammer when it's finally released. But until I get my PC fixed I'm dead in the water. It's sad too because if WoW was fun to me I'd reopen my account and just play on my mac.

I've played EQ, FFXI, WOW and I tried the beta for Lord of the Rings Online and right now I"m trying the SWG 14 day trial which I'm enjoying so far. WOW is the one I stuck with the longest but I'm just sick of it now. I used to be the type where I would play for 4-6 months then take 4-6 months off and repeat. I really enjoyed it from level 1-35 but after that I hate the damn game. I don't know why really. I just got fed up with people taking the damn game so freaking seriously. I'm the type that just wants to goof off. I also think it is because I couldn't find a core group of players to party with as well.

I played Ultima Online when it first came out for a few months . . . then left those games behind me for awhile . . .
I playtested SW Galaxies as a miner/creature handler and it was fun but they soon started cutting all the fun stuff out . . . so I played it for a few months and it became work.
I played Guild Wars for awhile - pretty impressive game for not having a monthly fee.
Played WOW for a few months pretty steadily, but then after getting one player to 60, it lost its draw. No real investment into major stories and grinding gets old. Stopped playing for a couple months and didn't miss it so I quit.
Tried Lord of the Rings online but it's just like WOW with different graphics. The chat system is horrible, their character animations are weak, and there's no sound when they laugh or do emotes.
I've heard EVE online is a great game. When I'm writing at the coffee shop there's a guy who's always playing it. He said he was in a battle the other day with 500 ships in the same fight . . . . it was like a BattleStar Galactica bought.
I'm curious why Blizzard hasn't created a Starcraft online game.
They need to realize we are getting fussy as they create better and better games . . . and get older because it needs to be good to pull time away from life.

I've heard Anarchy Online is pretty cool. I haven't played it since launch and back then it was an awesome game but it had too many glitches. The skill based system was pretty good if I can remember correctly.
I've played City of Heroes and that could be a lot of fun at times, I did enjoy being able to hook up with a friend as a sidekick. But the instances got old as they're all cookie cutter. I haven't seen it since City of Villans came out and not sure what it's like now.
Guild Wars is fun and worth it mainly for the sake that there is no monthly fee. Its one of those games where you don't mind dropping the $50 on because you can go back to it from time to time. I liked the fact that I didn't have to play with people if I didn't want to.
From what I understand Vanguard is created by the same team that originally did EverQuest. It's supposedly a pretty immense experience.

Why would they make a game that would be the biggest competition to WoW? It would make more sense for them to milk Burning Crusades atleast another 2 years before even considering a WoSC. I'm curious why you would think that they would release a game that would just shift players playing WoW to a new game, it makes no sense.

I think it's more of a why not make Starcraft MMO first. After all the game has been around for years with a huge following.
But while they would compete (even if they did make one now) they draw different audiences. Not every one likes fantasy and not everyone likes Sci-Fi. Then there are those of us who like both.
But I agree, it would be a waste now since WoW has such a huge following.

Guild Wars. I love it to death although haven't played too much recently. Mostly because there is no Linux client and I don't like dual booting. I'm hoping they make one during the break bectween Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2... Or that Guild Wars 2 has a linux client from the get go ><
Other than that nothing, really, but I've had my eye on the development of Planeshift (http://www.planeshift.it/about.html) and I might be installing that sometime.
Unfortunately I seem to be unable to become obsessive about most things lately and that prevents me from gaming a lot ;_;

Because everyone I know who's playing WoW is quitting . . . because they are bored with it. Now is the best time. People who just purchased the expansion will keep playing WoW (because they just bought Burning Crusades) while the rest of us who left WoW or are in the process of leaving would be more apt to try Starcraft Online at this moment because they are used to dedicating time to an online game. After you quit Online gaming for awhile, it's hard to get back into it because the time you spend gaming has been taken up by other things. Better to catch them now than later . . . a
And the bigger reason to come out with it now is to corner the Sci Fi fans like they did with the fantasy ones with WoW . . . I think not releasing one soon would be passing up a great opportunity.

So what does everyone look for in an MMO?
There are a lot of factors. I see if I like the story premise. What classes are available. What type of leveling system is in use. But one of the biggest things for me is can I play for an hour alone and still get things done. Back in the old EQ days that wasn't possible. I'd log on for an hour and I might have gotten where I wanted if I caught the right boats.
But class and leveling are what the main factors are. If there is PvP involved I try to find out how it's handled. WoW PvP sucks in my opinion.

So what does everyone look for in an MMO?
I'm one of those who like crafting things if I'm not out exploring. Harvesting and crafting is a great fall-back activity if you just feel like killing some time instead of creatures. It's fun to wear your creations or give your buddy a weapon you've constructed and named.
A variety of items is a must too. Nothing more boring than everyone running around looking the same. (illustrated by Cartman on the Southpark WoW episode when Butters shows up with the same dwarf)
Character customizing. Not being able to dye your clothes the color you want is retarded! If they all have the same shape, at least let the players adjust the color.
Environment interaction. Not being able to do simple things like "jumping" is annoying. Having to run around a log because you can't "jump" over it frustrating. Something as simple as being able to "sit" down can add a lot of ambience.
Music. Nothing more irritating than a loop of a song that sucks.
Character animation. When everyone swings their weapon the same, there's no "style" in combat. If your character is swimming, make sure he looks like he's doing a type of stroke, not having one.
Chat system. Being able to chat quickly is a must. Lord of the Rings online is an example of a horrid chat system. Fluent chat is the difference between a converstion between players and two avatars standing in the middle of nowhere, just staring at one another.
After purchase cost (monthly fee).
Evolving world. Being a part of "something bigger" than your character increases your desire to be involved. It also helps you become a part of the world, not just another constant like a rendered tree. Being able to "make a difference" is what being a hero is all about.
PVP system. Nothing is more frustrating than training in town, purchasing your gear, and then exploring the unknown and felling your foes . . . only to be waylaid by a band of young players who like slaughtering people trying to enjoy an adventure. There's nothing heroic about felling a goblin and while you're looting the spoils of victory, a couple high level players named "Bootylishis" and "JizzStain" come along and slaughter you while shouting "suck on that noob!"
Questing. "Well hello there. My sister lives on the other side of the world. Can you run across the continent to kill a rat in her basement?" *You click 'auto-run' and use arrow keys to avoid trees and rocks, spending 30 minutes traversing three kingdoms. You find the house, swing three times to drop the rat, and then run all the way back with the rat's tail.* "Why thank you for the rat's tail. Now that you have proven you are brave, run back to my sister's house and give her the tail for your reward!"
Server capacity. You go on the above quest only to get to the sister's house and find there's a waiting list. You stand in line, looking around while you wait for the rat to respawn. After telling all of your jokes and trying every emote, it's your turn. You finally get a shot but "Bootylishis" and "JizzStain" budge in front of you, jumping in circles while they enter the house and drop the rat before you can.
Size of the World. Nothing kills the whole "exploring" feel when you run by characters every ten feet on a regular basis. It should be a good feeling to see someone while out adventuring, not an annoyance.

I am really looking forward to that game. I think it might be the one that I will finally pay for.
So far I've only played DDO and WoW, both through their free trials. DDO was alright, but I lost interest quickly. And I'm currently about half way through the WoW trial (10 days) and while it has held my attention, it's not something I'm going to pay for.
So what does everyone look for in an MMO?
Basically I'm not a huge fan of the second 'M' in MMO, so the primary thing I look for is if the game can be played solo. Sometimes I like grouping up with people and going adventuring, but mostly I like going at my own pace and to the places I want to go. Also I can't keep a regular enough login schedule to be able to consistently participate in scheduled raids and such, so I never got into the whole guild thing. Basically, I play when I have the time, and would rather not have people in a fictitious world depending on me to show up at a particular time.
Other than that I look for interesting quests and story lines, a good PvE battle system (one of the things I don't like about WoW, and the main reason I'm not going to pay for it), and a wide variety of content (lands, NPCs, items, clothes etc).

I play World of Warcraft.
I currently have two level 70s, a shadow priest in a raiding guild and a feral druid for dinking around.
I also have a level 65 warrior if I get sick of either one or just wanna fish or other random crap.
I enjoy crafting in MMOs and quest content which Burning Crusade has in spades and more is being added with the next free content patch (2.1.0 currently testing on the... test server)
I still keep my social life semi-active outside the game and enjoy balancing full time job, part time MMO'r, and my various hobbies that don't pertain to computers (only a couple =p).

i played FFXI for far too long and the repetetive end game got too annoying to continue. I think i ended up logging around 290days of game play by the time i quit.
I play WoW sort of if you count logging on for a few minutes a day, been playing since the game started and i don't even have a lvl 50 character.
I played RF Online but that game if you did not start on day 1 there is hardly a reason to play since its impossible to catch up to the players who are already playing w/o dieing 1000's of times to the opposing forces.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but.... Both Pirates of the Burning Sea (http://www.flyinglab.com/pirates/index.php) and Age of Conan (http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=frontend.show&template=main) have forms up for Beta testing registration!
Play the game before it's released (if chosen)!
Also, to add another MMO to the mix: What does everyone think about Lord of The Rings Online (http://www.lotro.com/)?
I have to retract my statement before where I said that Pirates (PotBS) would be the first MMO to ever get my money, because I ended up buying LoTRO, and I love it! It is such a fun game. It's basically like WoW, only good. If you liked the books, then at the very least you'll enjoy the game. The quests are interesting, the world is awesome and looks great, there are very few dick players (unlike WoW...at least that I've run into), plus you get to run around Middle Earth. Awesome.

I've played a couple MMOs but never really got into anything too much. But when Alex was talking about SWG, and the people guarding the whatever, and everyone else trying to take it over, that sounds freaking awesome. I want an MMO where you HAVE to play with people, work together. Every time I've played, I'm just leveling or whatever by myself with other people just there, nothing really together. Also preferably something free.

Good luck finding a free MMO. I know about guild wars, but I don't think that really qualifies as an MMO since you only really run into everyone in cities, outside of that you're only in relatively small parties.
If you like the kind of game play described in your post check out Dark Age of Camelot and play a PvP server. Taking and holding forts require several people and taking relics take several more. It can be a lot of fun and quite intense.
I used to play Guild Wars pretty regularly. I have four 20's. Warrior, Ranger, Elementalist, and Dervish. I have two other characters that I never had the chance to play with. My guild died last year and I pretty much stopped playing after that. I go back and pick it up sometimes, but it just isn't quite as much fun as it was back when my guild was still active.

I have played just about everything on the market. UO, AO, MxO, FFXI and other things with acronyms. Right now though, I vary between EVE Online, City of Heroes/villains (usually villains >:D) and a little free-version Planetside.
I am a multiplayer junkie, and I love me some RPG, so it seemed natural that I would like MMOs... and I do like them, maybe a little too much.
I'm still down with WoW when I get a chance to play but I did enjoy DDO when I hadn't played every quest 10 times.
