Not sure but I think they might use something like After Effects... I'm just guessing... I STRONGLY doubt that though...

Is the intro made by the same person who made the InDigital intro? If so, then it's definitely got a thick layer of After Effects. In my Computer Arts class (a basic beginner's course for computer art applications), we're currently going over After Effects, and so the professor decided to show us a few demo reels to demonstrate the sorts of things that are possible with After Effects and other Motion Graphics programs. One of the reels was from a graduate of our school (Savannah College of Art and Design) and in the middle of the reel, I immediately recognized the InDigital intro. I'm not sure, but there may have been other sections of the reel that I recognized. It's been over a week since I've seen it, and it isn't fresh in my memory. However, many of these podcast intros (and even professional TV intros and advertisements) are being done in such programs.
Now, they aren't completely created in these programs, either. The great thing about After Effects and such apps is that you can import other files into your project, and group together several 'compositions' from these items. After Effects lets you create objects and animations and such from scratch, but you can also import and manipulate video and still images. It's a truly versatile application, and is only made better when part of a suite of programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator. However, as far as suites go, it only comes packed in with the very high-end ones, Production Premium and Master Collection, though it can still be purchased separately.
I feel somewhat disappointed, really, since I'm an animation student. We don't really do motion graphics, and seeing those demo reels really got me interested. My main interest is still animation, though if that falls through, I wouldn't mind changing my concentration a bit. I may try to learn After Effects on my own, if for nothing more than for my own enjoyment.

Hmm, I don't remember who it was, but Thursday in class we were shown some student work from one of the school's end of year shows, and I saw the Pixel Perfect intro there. Well, at least I thought, as the editing was different and the sound track wasn't the same. So, perhaps this student simply took the existing intro and tried to match the style used to make a new sequence using some existing footage and some new. Not sure. Hopefully some new information will come to light. Interesting stuff, though!
