We all have our personal favorite shows, either of all time or at the time. Personally I'm really big on Doctor Who, and the spin off Torchwood. I see threads for the aforementioned Doctor Who, Heroes, Battlestar Galatica (forgive any misspellings if any.) Well it seems that our guys have discovered the nickelodeon goodness that is Avatar: the Last Airbender. If you've watched the show you know how funny, artful, and witty it can be.

With the guys just discovering season 1 (more commonly known as Book One: Water) and soon to watch season 2, hopefully. I don't want to ruin anything for them but i got 2 words for ya: Metal Bender.

So the thought passed through my mind, who else watches Avatar. Obviously I do and am waiting in great anticipation of season 3. But before it was mentioned in episode 6, who really even watched the show. Better yet who had even heard of it. Dan was exposed to it only through his girlfriend and her friend. I came to like the show over halfway through season 2, months before the hour long specials, the Fury of Aang and Secret of the Fire Nation. Then I had to watch all of season 1 to understand what on earth was going on. But sorry I'm going on a rant; the question remains Avatar do you watch it, do you like it, do you know when season 3 starts?

I've watched the show since it first aired at first i thought another lame attempt at american wannanimebe. But it was good. Can't wait for season 3

Very addicting show.

Alex may have thought he was hot shit when he watched a full season in 3 days, but I watched both seasons in 2 days. It was both the sweetest and saddest weekend I've ever spent in my life.

On a sadder note, during the hiatus between Seasons 2 and 3, the guy who voiced General Iro (my personal favorite character) died, and they have a new guy voicing him for the next season.

Thanks TRS Guys, never would have tried this out without you.

I just finished watching season 2, so good. I can't wait for season 3, and it sucks that I don't know when it's coming. Mako was the voice of Iro.

Bought the first few episodes on iTunes to give this show a go.
I've watched the first one, and although it wasn't bad, I don't see what makes it great yet. Hopefully I'll finish watching the next few and it will click for me.

I did however love the opening, when the "Sumi-E" style map went 3-D.

Yeah i can understand how you don't get how great the show is when it first gets started. Its rather hard to see it even when you understand what is going to happen next. It starts off slow and some episodes feel sluggish but in some way but do advance the overall plot. If you want to see a great episode of the overall story plus some of the watch the episode about the fortuneteller.

Its not only funny but it also explores the main plot line of the story in a rather interesting way. It shows off Aang's bending, the comedy of the series and everything in between. I think there is a site somewhere that has the episode.

First, TRS guys, thank you sooooo much for making me discover Avatar : The Last Airbender. Without you, I might have never watched this show (nor even heard of it), even if it has aired in my country (France) for quite some time now.
I've watched the 2 seasons straight in 2 days. I was hooked from the very first episode and couldn't stop until I saw all of them.

Avatar is really an awesome show. The animation of the fight scenes is incredible, the mixup of all these asian cultures and asian martial arts is just so well done and the story, even if aimed at a young audience, can please adults like me with many hours of cartoons and japanimation behind them.

And I'm also a big fan of Toph Bei Fong. She is my favourite character from the first episode she appeared in (The Blind Bandit). I don't want to ruin the show for anyone, but in the last episode of season 2 (the one where she escapes...), she just rules.

Now I just can't wait to watch the third season (will there really be a forth one ?). I'll be also very curious to know what our dear TRS guys think about the 2nd season (which I think is even better than the first one).

I heard that there would be a 3rd but not a 4th season. He already knew airbending at the beginning of the first season (water) and by the end, he had learned water. By the end of season 2 (earth), he'd learned earthbending. Season 3 (whenever it's eventually released), will be Fire and he'll learn firebending and there will be some kind of climax involving the firelord, zuko, and the avatar.

I don't know why anyone likes Toph, she's an annoying little shit. Uncle Iro is my favourite character. :)

I first read there would only be 3 seasons, and as you said it makes sense. I read somewhere about 4 seasons, but the source didn't seem reliable, that's why I was asking. Anyway, I hope the 3rd season will be as good as the first two.

Ah ha, that's true, she has a bad character, but the jokes she makes about her blindness are hilarious :D . Uncle Iro is sometimes a sad character (with his son's story), but I like the fact that he hides his true abilities at firebending.

Amen! Iro is a refreshing change for a villain, I'm glad they didn't make him the standard brute or devilish fiend. He's got real depth, and everything he says is so perfect. And I don't know what's so special about Toph either... that episode wasn't anything spectacular in my book.

But nonetheless, Appa takes the cake. In the episode "Appa's Lost Days", I had to remind myself that this is a ****ing cartoon meant for littluns... there are very few moments in my TV-watching history that were as emotional as that one episode. And to me, that just signifies that this show has some of the best writing on TV... Appa may not talk, but damn if you don't feel a connection to that flying bison through the way he acts and reacts. Very classy.

Actually there are a few good shows that are somewhat similar. The Fairly Odd Parents is a funny show that focuses on the young life of Timmy Tunner who gets into random adventures with his fairy god parents. It was ceated by Butch Hartman who also created another weird quirky show for nick known as Danny Phantom. If you havent caught either of these shows i would suggest trying to see one, preferably Danny Phantom its funny and yet somehow serious, sorta like Avatar.

The biggest complaint i have about avatar, is all the double crossing going on. I mean its in everyones interest(other then fire benders) that the avatar completes his mission. But through out the story, all these non-firebending people try to kill ang... Like Toph's parents.

Just my one little complaint :p Otherwise the series is great. Funny, action packed, well animated and written...

I think that's actually what helps set the show apart from other (younger) cartoons. That scenario of someone in society trying to something good for the people around him, only to be hampered by those he is trying to help is something you can relate to in today's society. The different "nations" represent all the differences we all have in the world today, and how close minded we all are to the plight of others. The mere mention of people who are willing to sabotage the greater good for their own personal gain is a testament to the relavance of the writing in todays world.

Perhaps... But the situation seems pretty dire for both the water and earth nations... Yet SOMEHOW the water nation allows their master bender to refuse training for Katara. I mean they all understand the fire nation is planning on conquering the world, yet they let all this minute crap waste the time of the avatar. If they are aware of all the fire nation battle ships patrolling around their land, you would think they would drop the whole 'tradition' of refusing training for women, and try to stop their world from being destroyed.

And again, with tophs family. Sure, it sucks you think you daughter got kidnapped(even though she begged to go with the avatar, and left at the same time the avatar left) but less then 12 hours ago you saw her beat the crap out of the greatest earth benders in the world, so obviously she'll be fine... yet somehow you put a bounty on the avatars head... the one and only person who has any chance of returning the world to peace and harmony.

I agree it shows depth, but when its so clear cut that this kid is the only hope the world has, you would think it would be in everyones interest he lives long enough to accomplish it.

Course it is just a kids show, and as good as it is, i dont think it would stand up to well to critical dissection.

I think your right to the critical discussion. However I want to point out that the norther water tribe refused to train Katara because she was a woman and women in the tribe were trained healers not fighters.

I just wanted to thank the TRS for introducing me to this show.

For the record, I have zero interest in animation in all its forms, regardless of where it comes from.

But based purely on the recommendation on TRS I rented the first four episodes of AVATAR. Immediately I set about getting hold of the rest of the series, which I'm plowing through right now.

Rather than just regurgitate everything said on TRS (every word of which is true) I will just say that on a personal level, watching this show reminds me of the feeling I got reading TINTIN when I was a kid. It's hard to explain, but I guess it's just a feeling of loving this world and wanting to spend time in it.

And that's probably the highest complement I can give.

And I, too, want an Appa plushie!

My friends and another forum I frequent are absolutely in love with Avatar so I was glad that TRS was so excited about the show. I had seen a total of two episodes on TV and being a long-time watcher of anime it bothered me to have the voices in English, it just felt awkward.

I watched all the episodes in two days (weekdays  ) the e-legal way, and am so glad that I did.

I'm now going to force my friend to watch Avatar because if I like it he probably will too. Also Appa plushie: http://www.imagehosting.com/out.php/i544886_April282007006.jpg (There are Momo plushies too)

All plushies are sold out though, so how I got them is impossible for anyone else :(

First off, you can buy the Plushies on eBay. I'm not sure how much you're willing to pay though.

Secondly, I wrote a few pages back that I wasn't sure about this show, but I'm going to give it a chance. Well I just watched episode 5 and I'm hooked.

I was starting to really like it after the Prince had the FireBending battle with the Captain guy. That was some epic animated fighting right there. But now I just saw the EarthBenders doing that thing they do, and now I'm hooked.

Thanks for the recomendation guys!

After the first day of watching totally rad show ( I started on episode 7) I rented the first 8 eps of Avatar and the shield (ran out of time and didn't get to watch the shield..but I will get there). Holy crap this show is awesome.

I've haven't gotten into a show so hard as I am into this one. I watched up to the end of season 2 on line and bought the 1st season box set a short time later. I can't wait till the complete book 2 comes out on DVD...But seriously at the end of season 2 I was flipping out at all the crap that was going down.

Anyway...I always wondered what was up with the "In Honor of Mako" and now I know..and now I'm sad.

I also heard that this was picked up for 3 more seasons(kinda nervous about that).

I just started watching not too long ago and got hooked. I cant wait for the next season, but I'm bummed that the voice of Iro died. He was one of my favorite characters. Also, throughout the series I have been glad that they kept Appa's personality the same...he's like a non-gay pikachu almost.

SLIGHT SPOILER!!!

I just watched Episode 15 'Bato of the Water Tribe', and when Appa started beating ass I literally cheered.

SPOILER OVER!!!

I honestly can't see how they can replace Mako. General Iro is such a wonderful character and they can't lose him from the show. But Mako had such a distinctive voice and so much character in how he played it. I don't know if I like the idea of them getting a sound-alike.

I mean, who could ever forget his narration in CONAN THE BARBARIAN:

"Let me tell you of the days of hiiiiigh adventure!"

R.I.P. Mako.

Let's just hope and pray they don't do a "Dumbledore" to the voice actor for General Iro, i.e. replacing him with an actor who doesn't sound anything like Mako, and change the personality of the character to a degree where he's unrecognizable. It will be hard to recreate the almost senile but yet totally grounded philosophy he conveys in his voice.

That is exactly what my wife thought might happen. I'd take a voice knockoff to that any day. Either way it won't be the same anymore. Maybe they should just kill Iro....wait no they shouldn't. This sucks.

Actually I think Mako actually did the voice work for the first 3 episodes of season 3, maybe more. There is a link i need to put up where they did a short film that was rather odd and funny about Aang trying to get the love of Katara in time for a school dance (yeah i know). However the important matter is that the new voice of Iroh has a short few lines but you could figure out how he is doing as a job as Iroh.

I'm well into season 2 and it's brilliant.

I love what they're doing with the Zuko/Iroh story arc. Zuko is turning into a very well-developed 'villain'.

And I'm afraid I have to descend into sad anime fanboy blather for a second and say that Azula is hawwwwt! I hope at some point she and Katara throw down.

Yes your right, her name is toph ba feing, or something like that. She is suppose to be all helpless but turns out to literally be the best earth bender in the world.

Hey, if the Totally Rad Hosts are reading this, STOP READING!! lol, I don't think they would want spoilers. Anyway, yeah, Toph Bei Fong is an awesome character, and Season 2 is MUCH better than Season 1 in my opinion. And with those 3 thinking that the action in Season 1 was epic, oh boy, they're in for a wild ride!

I think the reason no one really knows about it is for a few reasons:

1. It's on Nickelodeon. That company just airs re-runs of Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents so much that people think those are the only 2 shows and don't bother trying to watch it.

2. The beginning of Season 1. Most people would judge that this would be a just-children show from the opening by the humor and story. But the people need to give it a chance.

3. It has a story. They don't air the episodes in a certain order much and so new fans of the show that heard it was really good would be very confused on what's happening.

Sorry for the long post, but I always like to explain things.

Just watched ep 35 'Tales of Ba Sing Se'.

What a wonderful episode. Joyous, funny and touching. A welcome break from the mounting tension and suspense, where we can just spend some 'quality time' with the characters.

I got misty-eyed at the tribute to Mako. His performance in this show was uplifting and heart-breaking.

Can this show possibly get any better? Can't wait to hear what the boys have to say about it.

I just finished the first season, and I really like it. The final three episodes were fantastic. I didn't bother with it when it first came out because I thought it was a show like Shaolin Showdown or something. When the guys of TRS were talking about it, it was similar to how I talk about a lot of my favorite cartoons. You expect cartoons to be for kids and have simple story lines. But great cartoons have great characters and character development. And the same goes for the story. Avatar is now one of my favorite American cartoons.

First two important things ...we should rename this thread spoilers galore if you haven't watched it yet you better get to watching it...Second the plushes are all back in stock now BTW.

I just finished watching the second season. Don't you hate that feeling you get when you realize you can't marathon a tv show anymore once you catch up with the series? cuz I sure do :(

Oh, and for azula I give:

Yeah it's the worse feeling in the world. I'm thinking about the Shield how many seasons are there?? 6 ok that should take me a week or two until next season starts. haha.

My fave cameo on that short was the library owl! That was awesome, btw. Thanks!

OK so some people may obsess with seeing Bruce Campbell cameos but for me it's Hector Elizondo. My God when I heard his voice I almost died right there.

Alright so Toph is def my favorite the humor the nerve the sheer attitude she exudes I love it. Too bad we had to wait until Book 2 to meet her.

The new voice of Uncle Iroh doesn't sound too bad. Thankfully I think the creators understand what it's like when you get to love a character and be forced to make a voice change. I have faith that they won't pull a Dumbledore, I think the creators actually care about their audience enough and to make a show that they enjoy as much as we want to enjoy. Not so much like WB and just going for the last dollar...

I have and I wouldn't recommend it the Xbox version was pretty weak. the reviews seem pretty spot on, on IGN http://search.ign.com/products?qtype=0&query=Avatar%3A+The+Last+Airbender&objtName=all&sort=relevance&so=exact&ns=true&genNav=true&x=0&y=0] (http://search.ign.com/products?qtype=0&query=Avatar%3A+The+Last+Airbender&objtName=all&sort=relevance&so=exact&ns=true&genNav=true&x=0&y=0) they say the best versions are the handhelds...but that isn't saying much since well the others don't give the franchise that much of a fighting chance.

(Why doesn't normal bbcode work on here...I really didn't want to show the entire link...)

Yeah I think gamespot gave one of the ds versions a decent review, or maybe it was the GBA version.

It can't be wrong when it feels so good! I'm actually peeved that my favorite character only has a Halloween outfit as swag, there is no way a grown man can admit to watching Avatar (nothing wrong with the show, I'm just saying some closed minded folks find it hard to believe a show geared towards children is this good) AND dress up as a woman because of it.

What peeves me is that the Cosplay snobs totally ignore Avatar. So you'd be hard pressed to find anything toph related (even home-made on Ebay). Yet they are so keen to put on a stupid sweat band and gel their hair because they believe their show is tops. Really do we need another Naruto in this world. /rant

What I really wanna see is a Ty Lee (acrobat henchwoman for Azula) costume grrrrr. She really does it for me.

I agree; before 6 and 7, it would make you think the story was random-like like Xialion Showdown or whatever, but then those 2 came, and we had ourselves a good story. Isn't A:tLA the 1st ever Nickelodeon show to have an actual story and character development?

I made a fire nation shirt (and am working on fire bending and others) . Or more than likely becuase this is revision3 you can steal it and make your own. The Mako discussion was already a few pages back now, but I just wanted to point that since it hadn't already been done that the new doing Iroh's voice studied under Mako to immitate him so it doesn't sound that bad if you aren't playing super-close attention.

ALSO! We may see season three as early as August. It's unconfirmed as of right now, but if you look at when the first two seasons ended (there were small breaks in the airing, it started in February) they both end in the first week of December. If they use the same week for the finale, but go for a full run with no weeks off, that's 19 weeks ending on Dec 7, which means it would start on August 3.

As far as I know, yeah. The only other animated show I remember on Nick that had a story (not as good as Avatar) was The Mysterious Cities of Gold. But that wasn't made by Nick. And that was a loooong time ago.

I read on Wikipedia Fire Lord Ozai is voiced by none than other than Mark Hamill (AKA Luke Skywalker).
Just wanted to thank TRS for letting me know about this great show. Just finished watching the first 2 seasons and can't wait for Season 3. You should have more Avatar related stuff on the show (like what would the Avatar door just more bending :p)or just bring us updates under the TV section.

Well when the guys first starting talking about it Jeff metioned something about hearing/reading an interveiw with the creators saying they had only wanted 3 seasons of the show; which may be why its taking so long to get out.

It makes sense that Fire will be the last season of the series; with Aang's back against the wall like it is. The fire nation quite literally now controls over half the world with the fall of Ba Sing Se. It now seems as though every nation would be after him for their own ends. Water and Earth need him as a last ditch effort to save their world from Fire nation control. And the fire nation would want to capture him to make sure the Avatar remains in their control. Now Aang and company need to make a way through the fire nation, while learning fire bending in order to finish him mission. I can't wait to see how it all goes.

Isn't that rad?! It may not sound like Mark Hamill, but hell, it's the son of Darth Vader! That's what Sith Lord Luke would've sounded like, lol.

I know, they now only mention the show like in 1 part now per-episode, like in the end of #11, they mentioned the grandma of one of their friends making the "Totally Rad Show" mini-shirt for an Aang doll or something. We don't even know if they have watched 1 season 2 epi or not, at least, most of us don't.

It's not really an anime. Watch a couple more episodes and focus more on the story and action sequences than the art style (which I still love).

I didnt like the first couple episodes that much, once I started getting into it season 1 ended. Then season 2 came its its soooo much better. In comedy and in action. Watch 1 episode of season 2 just to see how much better it is. Samurai Champloo is a good show though.
