Hey guys, I'm new here so bare(bear?) with me.
I was just wondering, because I have seen some helaciously horrible Movie Theaters, the conditions of everyone's theater and if we can get a mean on the conditions of all our theaters. My old one was horrible. 3 tiny Screens, Broken seats, Sticky floors (I just came!). It was in a small town. My new one is wonderful and glorious, a palace of cinema. So hit up the Poll. I'm doing 1-10 scale.

well this is no poll, but most of the theates around here are fine. our imax needs an update but that's not going to happen.

The theater I go to gets swabbed out by a guy with a mop before every new patron enters.

Tonight I went to a Theater here in New Orleans (I just moved here) and it is crazy! They serve Liquor at the concession stand! I was amazed. I got a Jack and Coke and Enjoyed Spiderman 3, but the theater was too damn cold and some Jerk-off kept turning the lights on during the movie. 20 Screens also. This place was amazing.

There is only one theater in my small town. It's kind of pricey, I guess, at 8.75 a ticket (a few bucks cheaper for the first showing of the day). It is small, with only one screen, but a lot of seats on the floor and a balcony area open during certain showings.
It is a great theater though, very clean and each time I've been there I've had a great experience.

You seem to be doing a poll with a rating scale from 1 being worst to 10 being best, however the descriptions don't really coincide with those numbers.
We only have 1 imax here in Sydney and the only time I've been to it was about 10 years ago when it was new and all they showed were those short documentaries which contained tipsy turvy flyover scenes to attempt to make you motion sick.
I would have liked to have seen something like 300 at Imax but I didn't get around to it.
My local cinema/theatre's main room is a really old art deco(?) type of place with pink lights and statues and all kinds of weird old "classic" stuff in it. Apparently it's famous for being so old and "classic" like this but really, when the lights go down you find yourself looking at a sub-par medium-small screen in old uncomfortable seats.
The other one which is local is one of 2 chain places. We have 2 major cinema companies in Australia and the one that has a cinema nearest to me is called Greater Union. The seats are ok and the screens are ok too at this local place but it only has 2 screens. In other suburbs such as chatswood, they have much larger complexes with better quality seats, large screens and high qual sound.
The other big company is Hoyts. Their closest cinemas to my place are about the same distance from my place to chatswood but in the opposite direction. They also have big cinema complexes with high qual seating, sound and screens.
They're all a bit expensive. About 13 bucks for a student ticket and 15-16 for an adult. (Multiply those by about 0.8 to get american values).
I'd give the 2 big companies about an 8 out of 10 in terms of quality but the prices stink.
I remember some time last year or the year before when there were basically NO good movies coming out and heaps of people were just getting videos/DVDs or watching stuff on the internet, they dropped their prices to $5 to get people to come back lol.

we have only 2 theaters...one just upgraded the seats and that made the whole town talk....the other one is drafty and small. the thing that sucks is there is really no compitition between the two. they always play something different. if one theater get a movie the other one wont get it. i hate living in a small town sometimes.

Well there are two main theater chains near me, one of which has really cool people working there and shows some interesting movies. The other has nicer facilities and screens but shows only big releases. I'd go see something like Brick at the first, 300 at the 2nd.

it's like that everywhere. the threate chains have non compitition agreements between themselves. it is a matter of how close one is to the other

I've got a few theatres around my house. The first is six screens, meh seats, decent cleanliness. It's ok, nothing to write home about. Next, in our historic downtown district :) we have an old antique theatre that shows two second run films at a time, it's super fun to go to just for the atmosphere. lastly, a couple towns over, we've got a very very nice 12 screener that has ginormous screens and super comfy seeting. That's where I saw spidey 3 at midnight.

yea.... well that sucks ass...and is probably why i pay 8 bucks for a movie in a lousy theater. *shrugs*...otherwise if i wanna see a movie in a great theater i have to drive 3 hrs to Anchorage....just not worth it in my opinion.

There are a bunch of theaters in my area. The one I go to most right now is brand new as of a few months ago. It's great especially for the stadium seating (no other theaters in the city have that, and the suburban ones are kinda far). The only problem with the new theater is the outside box office. This is freakin' Minnesota here! Before that one was built there were two others in the area. Both were okay, they had several screens but some of the theaters were kinda small and there was no stadium seating. They are now closed since the new one opened. There are two theaters in my neighborhood that have two screens apiece. A main one and a tiny one up stairs. Those don't have stadium seating and are okay. The other theater that I used to go to all the time, but haven't been in forever is the one at the Mall of America. Those were new as of 10 years ago or so. There's no stadium seating, but other than that they're okay.

if you think about it works to your advantage. without this little rule you might have nothing but spider-man 3 playing right now. this allows smaller movies the chance to get seen.

this is true....there is this most rad theater in anchorage called the bears tooth...they serve beer and food in the theaters. got to see bruce campbell there. i love the leg room with having a table infront of your seats. the only down fall is that you have to be 21 to sit in the floor, otherwise its the balcony for you.(they have a mini bar in with the seats)

I love my theatre.
Sure, the movies might not be latest releases, and it doesn't have stadium seating, but it does show a lot of classics, and often has movie marathons.
Alcohol is not a problem, beer or wine are often available.
Kids are occassionally admitted, but its rare, as most of the stuff shown is M or higher.
Best part is ... the couch is comfy, my wife and I can curl up against each other, the dog can climb up and lie down at our feet, the fridge is just out in the kitchen, and there are no annoying "other people" there.
Yep. I lovemy theatre :)
Oh, public theatres - we have a local one thats great, another thats new but crappy, and a megaplex thats crowded, but my favourite was a fleapit in Melbourne we went to for movie festivals (low budget animations stuff mostly). It got condemned :) ... for good reason :D

I went around to all the thearters near me to figure out who has the best seeting (i'm kind of a wide guy and enjoy the reclining chairs). My fav turned out to be amc/lowes in cherry hill nj (REPRESENT!). and i recently found out that if you see a flick before noon, it will only cost you a fiver! thats probably just during the week, but still a great deal. My wife and I saw spider-man 3 opening day for 10 bones.

The "nicer" theater is ok - it's getting a little old and run down now, but all in all a good experience.
The $1 theater is in sad shape. Broken seats, nasty dirty carpets - having said all that $1 to see a movie is a great deal. :)
Wish we had alcohol in the theaters - that would make some movies tolerable. ;)

I like the idea of having a restaurant's mixed in the the theater. Just make the seating area where you normally sit to watch the movie have a bunch of tables with chairs around them, like a restaurant. They have this once, i think, in Philly and a lot over on the west coast. But, speaking for NJ, we need more of them, especially where i live! :P

I personally am kind of lucky.
I have an old school Stage Theatre that doubles for a movie theatre. $5 movies, and all the ambience you could ask for.
I have a Ritz about a half hour away for my art house flicks.
I also have a Regal and a United Artist within 10 minutes, for my general movie veiwing. Nothing special, generic theatres.
But the best thing of all. I have the only Drive-In here in NJ about 40 minutes away from my house. For only $8 you get two first run movies. You can bring your own food, or buy theirs. Really cheap, really fun! Can't recommend this one enough.

We have a theater here in Winnipeg called Grant Park. It's a great little theater, with reclining chairs and plenty of leg room...except when you go see a film that is packed. Then the wonderful reclining chairs become bothersome; especially if you're tall and all legs like me. Then your knees rub against the back of the chair in front of you the entire time. Or if the dude is a dick, he'll rock back and forth through out the entire movie - banging your legs.

Thats when you put your foot in between the chairs in front of you (you can decide if you want to do this barefoot or not :p) so that dick is smelling your feet as well as his popcorn, which might actually smell quite similar for some reason. Hmmmm...

Ha Ha Sure why not! Just two people sitting there, awkward silence and all.
Have you checked out the Drive-in yet? Its only in Vineland. It's right off of 55, so don't worry about driving through some of the seedy parts of Vineland.

They play first run movies.
I went there for the midnight showing of Spiderman 3. The first movie is normally something family friendly and the second is something more edgier.
Like this weekend is Spiderman 3 at 8 and then Fracture starts right after that.
The best time to go is when they have an all nighter. Last one I went to was a few summers back. For $6 bucks we saw Shrek 2, a Hillary Duff movie I can't remember (mainly cause I slept through it), Spiderman 2, and then Harold and Kumar. Harold and Kumar started at 4am, so it was the perfect time to start watching a silly movie like that. It was probably one of my favorite movie going experiences.

That sounds like a blast. i love drive in theatres. I've got one sorta near me, but it's a good drive away, and it's kinda in bad shape. the last time I went was a few years back and I saw Stewart Little and something else......the something else was what I came to see but I can't remember it :) Oh, well, good times, I need to go check that place out again this summer.
