There is a great reason to install SSH2 on the appleTV. SSH2 is supported by more FTP clients.

Cyberduck is one of them and you can use cyberduck with automator on the mac to automate the process of pushing media to the appleTV.

I tried to follow the tutorial here to install SSH2.
http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/index.php?title=Install_SSH

But thee is a link to download the needed files for SSH2 from opendarwin.org, but opendarwin is now no more and the link doesnt work.

Does anyone out there know an alternative location to download the files from? I really need that package so I can get my automator working with the appleTV.

Any ideas?

The obvious reason to avoid SSH1 like the plague is that version 1 of the protocol has inherent security problems that SSH2 fixed.

Now, that may not really matter if it's only used in your home network, but if you want to connect to your AppleTV over the Internet via SSH, it's probably well worth enabling version 2 of the protocol.

In the episode of systm they didnt cover it because it was on your home network. I don't think you should ever have to put the appleTV on the internet :)
