Hi, (kevin) and others
Id like to know how you created your forum?
I am looking to design my own forum, and was wondering if anyone can give me some tips or ideas, In particular Id like to know what it takes, what programs, and do i have to be a professional with php?

lol. I hate seeing somebody just start a website or a forum out of the blue without any knowledge or skill. Learn html and php, then learn to design, then THINK about starting a website.

First off, frodosringfinger
"lol. I hate seeing somebody just start a website or a forum out of the blue without any knowledge or skill. Learn html and php, then learn to design, then THINK about starting a website."
I never said i wasnt able to create websites, i have designed several websites. I liked the look for the revision3 forum and am open to any information they are willing to give in the creation process.
Didn't mommy and daddy ever teach you that if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it all.
I am very fluent in Html, I have my own website. I don't have to explain my "skills" in order to receive the information needed.
In reality all you have done here is shown your ability to to say nothing in regard to the actual subject at hand but instead to make a complete ass of your self. If nothing else you have shown me what level of intelligence you have and what a waste of time your posts are to read. In the future, refrain from comments that aren't necessary! I believe these forums are built to make a community of help, fun, and ideas. Your input is nothing more then ignorant.
Second, chuckles,
Thank you for your reply chuckles, is this what rev3 uses?

vbulletin seems to be a popular software for forums. Two other forums I'm active on use the same but with a different template/color scheme.

Can we add this disclaimer to the forum page: "Kevin Rose neither posts in this forum nor reads any of the posts."

Because its stupid to post an absolute. You have no idea if Kevin ever browses the forums. I don't get whats so hard to grasp about this concept. Kevin is probably pretty curious to what everyone has to say. Sure he probably only browses for a few minutes every week but to say he doesn't at all - well, hurrr.

www.phpbb.com (they don't host it, you download it and put it on your own website)

although, googling: "phpbb, forum host" will get you free forum hostage reasonably quickly.
I love vBulletin for appearance and usage and all, but i love phpbb for its freeness. making people pay for forum software is ridiculous in my book. Mind you im highly pro-open-source. Also, I'm treading al ine here, more than likely, but, like any other software, you can obviously obtain it in a shady manner if you don't want to pay for vBulletin. Although I like many, simply wouldn't risk it.

Is it that you want to make your own forum from scratch or use a forum and make your own skin? If you want something hosted, there are many options for hosted forums with Invision Power. One of the more popular ones is Proboards (http://proboards.com).
If you're looking to host your own forums on your own domain (which is the only way to be taken seriously, I think) you have options such as vBulletin, Invision Power Board. This site uses vBulletin which damn expensive. You can get a nulled version of the software, that depends on how ethical you are.
There are many free options for the forums, such as phpbb (http://phpbb.org), punbb (http://punbb.org) and Vanilla (http://getvanilla.com/). Each of these solutions have their strengths and weaknesses. Hope this helps.

It is common knowledge that Kevin Rose never visits online forums accept to announce particular projects. Kevin doesn't like forums, he had admitted so an several occasions through out the years.
In any case, even if he did, he's not looking for the kind of forum relationship that some people sometimes come here looking for.
Is it a mystery that, while "Diggnation" is the most popular and longest running show, it doesn't get the most forum posts? I don't think so.
I also find it pretty distasteful when people visit a forum like this one looking to send a message directed at a single person. It would be like me and Token carrying on a personal conversation in a public thread.

Kevin is hardly on, but he passed in. Yes, it's not what people would like, for him to stay here all day and chat with us. We'll have to deal with it, I guess. As for people directing messages to one person, I agree, it's distasteful, but they don't know any better, it's not like they can get on to Kevin any other way so they assume he's here waiting on people to ask questions. At best, we can only correct people and let them know how things operate.

Proboards is proprietary and is only available as a hosted solution but it has a very active community to help you modify with templates. Highly customizable.
