Sometimes it seems like you can't shit without hitting a sequel.
Here are a few of the sequels due out this summer.
Somehow, I thought there would be more...
Spiderman 3 May 4
28 Weeks Later May 11
Shrek the Third May 18
Pirates of The Caribbean: At worlds End May 24
Hostel: Part II June 8
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer June 15
Live Free or Die Hard: June 27
Harry Potter and The Order of the Pheonix July 13
Rush Hour 3 August 10

While I love carrying on with a good franchise, it is disheartening to see the lack of originality that the Hollywood machine spews at us.

While I'm the first guy to rant about the unoriginality of Hollywood, I'm a big fan of seeing characters I like continue their stories.
If you do a good story, any sequel can be worth it. (Spiderman 2)
If you're doing it for cash you'll obviously stink up the room. (Batman and Robin)

Hulk may hate sequels, but I doubt he wants his only shot of true screen time to be that train wreck his first movie was.

It's our own fault. Look what non-sequels have been doing at the box office this summer. Tentpoles with built-in audiences are the reason studios can afford to finance more "original" films. Soderburg has said the only reason that the Ocean's franchise exists is to finance his more personal projects. If not for Spider-Man 3 and the like, you wouldn't be getting stuff like Good Night and Good Luck...

The Hulk movie is actually one of my fave comic book movies of recent times. I'd much rather watch that than Batman 3 & 4, Spiderman 1, X-Men 3, Daredevil, Electra etc...
Wes
It also seems like half the movies that aren't sequels are remakes. An American director takes a foreign movie, translates to English, adds explosions & sex scenes and never mentions the fact that it's a remake.

I'd rather watch Hulk then get a railroad spike driven through my cranium.

I just realized we're arguing over sequels unoriginality and then talking about how they should use comic books to make movies!
Ha ha, I love those moments when I realize I'm a hypocrite!

i have gone on record as being against sequels, remakes, and comic movies. the hulk( who has gone out to get some popeye's chicken) likes comic movies but doesn't go in for remakes or sequels

I can agree with that!
I just wish films with more original content reaped richer benefits...

The motion picture is a bloated sow with many pigs sucking at the teats. It needs the relative guarantee of blockbuster sequels to keep the little runts well fed.

I'm alright with a sequel or two - depending on the movie, of course. It's just a continuation of a story. Some are good, some are bad.
If it wasn't for sequels - we wouldn't have been graced with Weekend at Bernie's 2, or Teen Wolf Too.
Think about it.

If it wasn't for sequel's we'd have never got Aliens! Then again, we'd have never got Alien 4 or AvP.
If making sequels produces at least one gem is it worth doing? Even if every other sequel is shite!

Heck Yeah!!! I'll wade through all the crap for that gem of a sequel that happens every once in a while. I won't like it, but i'll do it anyway.
