... or you could use the usenet server provided by your ISP ... hell, you are already paying for it, and they generally have no restrictions on access.

In my case, its news-server.<xxx>.<xxx>.com ... other ISPs have similar systems. There are plenty of free usenet servers out there - you just need to search for them.

Yer, I find the usenet servers provided by ISP's (at least in Europe) don't carry alot of the popular groups and the retention is Very Poor... For this reason I Pay $25 per month for giganews

Oh well, take it or leave it...

I was frustrate with my ISPs news server, but they upgraded beginning of last year, and it has been great ever since.

Usenet - its porn without popups.

(BTW - I have been using usenet since the late 80's, before there was the www :) damn I feel old :p )

The internet makes everyone the same age man, I was friends with someone who was over 80 when I used to be on the G4 forums. I hope he's still alive.
