Just thought that I would try to lend Jeff a hand; The foodnetwork show that goes over how food things are made is Unwrapped. A great show, I try to catch it as often as I can.
Other great shows include good eats, and I am also unusually drawn to all the Rachel Ray shows as well.
For those of you out there interested in things being made other than food, you can check out How Things Are Made on the discovery channel. I think It Takes A Theif got canceled or is on a break, because they are playing back-to-back episodes of HOw Things Are Made these days.

Glad to be of assistance man. Dan seems to be good with the vague movie stuff, but who is the vague tv guru on the show?

Unwrapped doesn't do much for me.
Good Eats on the other hand ... I think BSG needs a ships cook. It should be AB :)
I also like the show he did from the back of his motorbike cross country.

Totally food porn dude! However, she got her ass handed to her by Rachel Ray in Iron Chef America. They should do some lesbo food porn then I guess.

Good Eats is the top show on my DVR (TIVO)
"Some type of food porn" Best Food Network line ever.
I also like the show he did from the back of his motorbike cross country. It was called Feasting on Asphault (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0818152/)
I really wish I could talk to Alex about food shows, and his old (RIP?) CAC podcast..... <sigh>

I absolutely love Good Eats... it's like if Bill Nye made a cooking show.
Apart from the general wackiness of the show, I love how they explain why things work. Where most cooking shows are basically charismatic people reading recipes to you, Good Eats explains why food is cooked the way it is.

Nobody has anything on my boy Alton. It's too bad that he's not much of a restaurant chef type of guy, he'd be able to cut up all sorts of fools on Iron Chef.

I know I am probably in the minority here, but I have to throw my vote to Nigella Lawson.

I have no idea what she cooks on the show, but I know whatever it is I stay tuned the entire episode.

I love Alton Brown. You have no idea... But,
Alton isn't really chef. He attended the New England Culinary Institute, but it was never with the goal of becoming a professional chef. It was always his idea to produce a show about cooking and food science. He obviously has a passion for food and is tremendously knowledgeable about food and food technology, but he also as a talented staff baking him up. He does most of the cooking on screen, but most of the recipes are fine tuned by a team of very talented folks. Indeed, the "Good Eats" recipes are often the most elegant and delicious applications given food stuffs, if only a little salty. The best thing is the exploration of cooking techniques that are adaptable to other dishes.
The top chefs on FoodTv like Lagassi, Flay, Batali and Florence are really a cut above any of the other cooks.
However, being a great chef isn't everything. I'd love to eat a meal prepared by Bobby Flay, but I rather he stayed in the kitchen. I'd much rather break bread with Alton, Rachael Ray or even Ina Garten.

Yeah, I tend to like Alton Brown too because his show is not just about cooking, but the science behind cooking. It's a really original approach to the traditional cooking show. He seems like a down to earth guy too which some of the other chefs aren't able to pull off.

Masher Good call on the staff at Good Eats. To cut production costs they have a rule that if any food steps takes more than 4 minutes they have a chef pre-prepare it so it's ready to go for the next scene.
When we were at a resteraunt about a year ago these old lady's at a table a few tables away from us were apparently talking about Good Eats and one did the intro tune outloud,"Nun nun nun nun nun nun nun...nun nun nun" To which my 6 year old daughter quite loudly responded, "Good Eats!!!" It was awesome!http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k155/foodnetaddict/102606_altonpaula.gif
