Pretty sure asking for/passing around links to pirate software on these forums isn't a good idea. Revision 3 could get in trouble for you doing that.
With that said, let me ask, did you make this thread because you really want it to be a good discussion, or because you want to find someone who will hook you up with a cracked copy of CS2?
Just to let you know, the photoshop cs2 trial version won't give you the option to activate or register.

Use Gimpshop. Legally free.

I was looking for a general discussion. I had no intention of using this thread as a means of getting pirated software. Currently I use GIMP and find it suitable for everything that I need. I just wanted to see if anyone actually pays the cash for CS2. I sometimes browse the bittorrent sites at what is being offered and never really saw photoshop for mac that often. Maybe since I dont really need it I wasn't looking hard enough

I don't believe 1, that it is really right to talk about stealing that large of a program and 2, to try and get it via a forum isn't the brightest thing as it will end up getting you in trouble. That being said, I own CS currently, and will be purchasing the adobe suite after christmas which is CS2, Illustrator and so on. I do it professionally so yes, I justify the price I guess you could say.

Just make sure you don't post any torrent links or product keys on the boards.
I understand pirating sofware in certain cases. Im a college student so there is no possible way for me to buy all the sofware I need. Why would I blow $700 on photoshop when Im only going to use it for one semester? I also needed a copy of Windows XP so I could run IE 6 to get to ONE website for college (our math homework is on the site).
I honestly will remove photoshop from my computer once I am done with the class as I won't have a need for it anymore (the same goes for Windows). But really though, Im not going to spend $1,000 on sofware (photoshop and windows) that I will use for only a few months.

I think anyone who is smart enough to find out how to acquire a working copy of Photoshop CS2 can probably also find a working key for it.
It hardly needs to be discussed here.

i go with phatlip12 im also a college student the student discount for adobe is still 300 just for dreamweaver. im refuse to pay that if i had the money to do it. ms does a thing w/ my school where computer science and computer engineers get free software. xp pro, visual studio etc.. and if you work for the school (like i do) office is $20 for xp and $8 for mac, that is smart, give us a reason to buy and to use. so if it was cheap ill buy the software, if they still feel like screwing us (Adobe) i dont mind downloading. with that being said i downloaded it.

I don't understand what there isn't to need to pay the price for. You are getting what professionals use but are stealing it. I don't understand how in the world you justify it, it's like going to best buy and stealing CS2, but telling them, "Oh, don't worry I am just using it for school, and in a couple of months I may return it."

It would be more like breaking into Best Buy, pulling CS2 off the shelf and making a copy of it right there, then, instead of returning it, destroying the copy of it a few months later. The only difference here is that no one is breaking and entering or opening any sealed merchandise.

How old are you? Just wondering, forgive me if you are older but it seems like you don't know what its like to be the typical college student. Most people in college don't have money to blow on software like this especially if they are only going to use it for a few months. Paying to actually feed your self seems to be more important (and difficult in some cases).
If there was some way I could rent the sofware then I would do it but no, I will not pay close to 1,000 in software Im only going to use a month. If there is a way for me to get it off the net that easy then you bet Im going to do it.

Your arent stealing anything. You are making a copy. It would be like going to a museum and taking a picture of a painting. (Though I think your not supposed to do that because it degrades the paint or something, but thats beside the point)

Photoshop is a licenced product. The Mona Lisa is not. Big difference there.
If you truely want Photoshop and don't want to pay or steal, download the trail and reinstall it when it ends.

Doesn't matter, it's still a copy, not theft, which is defined as an unauthorised taking with the intent to permanently deprive the owner or the person with rightful possession of that property or its use.

What if its a case in which you need it for longer then the trial but nearly not long enough to buy? Adobe should really have some sort of renting option for students. I would do it if they provided it.
Yes you can talk about pirating/hacks and cracks on the board due to the nature of shows such as the broken however don't post any direct links to things such as torrent files or product keys. Also try to be careful when talking about torrent sites, I would prefer it if names are left our of threads that discuss pirating software because its almost as if we are providing the source for that specific action if that makes any sense.

That's a definition that can only apply to a physical item. A more proper one is aquiring/using something (be it an idea, property, design or bytes) without proper payment to it's owner or the owner of the products licence.
Your mentality that "It's just a copy lol" does not change the fact that it is theft.

THere was no "lol" in my sentences before lol. My point is that it's not like walking into a Best Buy and stealing something off the shelf. You aren't stealing anything, you're violating copyright and intelectual property laws. You arent stealing anything.

I am 16 years old, work 3 different jobs, one of them being design. So yes I know what it's like to have no money and still have to pay for it. I am also purchasing my own macbook pro after my birthday in november, so yes I know what it is like. But instead most of you just purchase other things and think it is alright, so it's all about having your priorities in check.

Your playing semantics. Adobe licenses their software out to people who pay for it - or who use the free trial. Your downloading it without paying. Therefore its theft.
If you have to delude yourself into thinking what your doing is legal, then you need to take a reality check.

But it is theft of their intelectual property, not an actual physical item, so comparing it to walking in and taking something from Best Buy isn't a good analogy. It would be more like taking someones idea out of their head. I never said I thought what I or others are doing is legal. Yes I am playing semantics, that was what I have been talking about from the begining, the Best Buy analogy.

Property's property. Its as simple as that.
And Students often get software at a discounted rate - i know that right now, Adobe CS2 Suite is selling for ~$400 instead of the normal price of ~$1200 at some SUNY universities.

I dont know about you, but i've used photoshop for more then 3 months and will most likely continue to be using it - If i were to buy it for college, it wouldnt be because a course needed it, but because i wanted it. Just cause you buy it for a course doesnt mean you HAVE to use it exclusively for that course.

This is true. I was taking college courses during high school and soon realised that I'd need Microsoft Office in order to get all of my work done. Although the campus had Office installed on all of their computers, the only place that I really had all the time in the world to do my work was at home. So I got Office, and after the courses were finished, I still had a lot of use for it.
But the thing is that I knew someone who worked at Microsoft, and they're able to get a good 70 to 80% discount at the Microsoft store. So what could have been a couple hundred dollars ended up being a little over $50. Now I'm not sure if Adobe has a store with huge discounts for their employees, but that's the way to shop if you don't feel good about downloading the software but just can't afford it.

I currently waiting for the next version of the creative suite. As my next computer will be an intel based mac, and I don't want to buy CS2 just to pay for the upgrade a few months later.
I will be getting the academic discount that saves me hundreds of dollars. As a student I don't mind paying for it, because it is discounted.
Pirating software no matter what is not a good thing for supporting the people that make the software that you love.
