I was just wondering who all here loves the awesome gaming experience known only as Fallout, and of course I'm referring to both 1 and 2.

C'mon, how can you go wrong with a game where you can be a hired gun for the mob who moonlights as a drug-addicted pornstar all while trying to save your village in a post-nuclear holocaust California?

What do you all expect/want/fantasize will be in Fallout 3?

I'm a huge fan of Fallout, including the not so great Fallout Tactics game. What I have to say though is that I am not a fan of these hypothetical threads. I could say whatever I wanted, but it's not going to change reality. On an up note there's a new design image released this week:

I love the Fallout games even though I never got too far in either or them. Looking forward to Fallout 3 though

For those who could use some catching up:

Bethesda Software (mother of all things Oblivion) has purchased the Fallout IP from Interplay. This has caused a lot of mixed reactions, because nobody has any evidence in regards to how Bethesda is going to approach making this game. Many Oblivion fans would love Oblivion gameplay with a post nuclear holocaust setting, while all of the hardcore Fallout fans (including me) will only accept a game that utilizes or emulates the same gameplay mechanics of the original Fallout games (isometric view, turn-based combat, etc.)

Bethesda will release a teaser trailer in 14 days from this post.

Interplay has purchased a license from Bethesda to develop the Fallout MMO game.

Cool. I would like to see the game machanics stay close to the orignal with full 3d enviroment and characters.

Bethesda could do great things with this, but if they make it like Oblivion it would just be weird.

Because Oblivion is nice and all, but after you do everything there isn't really anything to do other then wait for DLC, which usually sucks, and Shivering Isles didn't last me long.

So it could be hit or miss with a lot of people, well I guess we'll see in 14 days eh?

If its not turn based grid combat it just won't feel like a fallout game. I played the one for PS2 it was pretty cool but completely different than the PC games it was like Baulders Gate 2 style combat.

I'm okay with Bethesda making an Oblivionesque Fallout game. I'm NOT okay with them calling it Fallout 3. :)

Could make Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel 2 like Oblivion. I agree with it not being called 3 if its like that.

Oh man how I love Fallout, got them both again after too many years without playing them, and they are still just as awesome. The new art looks promising so far, but again it's just art, and it essentially comes down to keeping the basic gameplay similar to the originals.

Anyone looking for the "official" site it's at http://fallout.bethsoft.com/ it's where all the concept art and the countdown for the trailer is.

So let me guess you named your fallout characters Cranky?

DEal is that I'll take whatever they give me. It was a great universe and if they even gave me a bioware style KOTOR type game I'm going to be happy. The only thing that would piss me off is if they decided to throw it on a console because then we'd have to deal wit lowest common denomenator controls.

Would be cool if ya could travel the whole US instead of just the northwest. 100s of citys and shelters. I'll be happy as long as you can go anywhere right off even areas you aren't strong enough to be in yet and do anything kill anyone.

Fallout 1&2 are easily in my top 5 games of all time... I always group them together because I've never played them separately.

I'm quite excited about Fallout 3, even though I'm going to have to forcibly remove any expectations about it. As long as they make a quality RPG in the Fallout universe, I'll be happy.

Oh yeah, did anyone here check out the Van Buren Tech Demo? (http://www.fileplanet.com/176640/170000/fileinfo/Van-Buren-Tech-Demo-) I saw some video of it and it really makes me sad that this version never got made. Looks like it would've been a true sequel in every sense of the word.

Figured that I'd bump this considering the trailer is coming out tonight/tomorrow!!

I'm quite excited, regardless of how good/not so good it will be.

Seems like their month long countdown failed... we only get a "Please Stand By" technical difficulties kind of thing.

I like what Kotaku said about it, that I'd rather have a pleasant surprise when they release some news, as opposed to being disappointed when the news doesn't live up the hype (or doesn't show up at all).

Looking nice, very evocative of the feeling of the first two. And apparently the cinematic is in engine. I also love the ending quote, with Ron Perlman saying "War... War never changes." just like the intros in the originals.

My excitement is kicked up again... too bad we're waiting till at least Fall 08.

I'm have to give Bethesda a vote of confidence just because they got Ron Perlman back to say "war, war never changes

I miss Wasteland.

Dude. Wasteland on my 4 color CGA monitor. Loved it.....
LOVED IT.....

Walked into the tent of one family by accident, the Topeka's... they all attacked me, even the infant with .22 pistol, baby Topeka. Las Vegas and it's seemingly never ending supply of roaming killer robots.

Thanks for making me remember this awesome game.

++++++++++++
In 2003, InXile (founded by Wasteland's producer, Brian Fargo) acquired the rights to Wasteland from EA.

On June 21, 2007, Brian Fargo said, "I am indeed looking into bringing back the game that spawned the Fallout series. Stay tuned...." in an interview with fan site Duck and Cover.

well based on comments on the live coverage from G4 with Bethesda guy Todd Howard: He says that Fallout 3 will be mostly first person with occasional 3rd person. It will be faithful to the lore and texture. It will certainly be an RPG, but they want it to be more immersive. Soooo it sounds like it will infact be a sci-fi version of Oblivion meaning that it will be open ended. I am sooo psyched!

This is good news in my books, I didn't really want a rehash of the 1 and 2. We've come so far, they don't need to simply add a new chapter on that.

I dunno, I'm sure this format will be good. I just really miss the tactical turn based RPG's ala Fallout, X-com, etc. There hasn't been a really good one of those in a long time.

there was a game announced about two years ago that was a spiritual successor to fallout using the same isometric view. I just did a search for it and can't find it, but it's out there.

If you want more fallout news check the PC Gamer podcast as they do discuss Fallout 3 from a first hand perspective. It really does sound like they aren't simply doing oblivion with a fallout mod, that it will have all the things that made fallout 3 great.

You may be referring to the "Van Buren" game that Black Isle was working on for a while. It was eventually scrapped, but they released a very early tech build a month or so ago.

No, it was a totally seperate game that looked like a side project from a bunch of students. It was more exciting that they were keeping the same look and feel, but it likely would of been buggy as hell.

On Van Buren, you can DL the tech demo from quite a few sites, it's just nasty.
