Everytime I hear Ours I think I'm listening to Jeff Buckley with a rock band behind him....not a bad thing by the way
Two Main bands I would suggest to check out...Refused, and the Appleseed cast

I listen to a lot of bands that not everybody knows about but two that I really love are:
Swollen Members
http://www.swollenmembers.com/swollen_tour_splash/
Check out the track: "Horrified Nights"
Smile Empty Soul
http://www.smileemptysoul.com/
Check out the track: "Silhouettes"
Also both of these bands have new projects. Get their old stuff then pick up the new stuff.

Most everything I listen too it is a safe bet that the majority of people here don't know who I am talking about. I am a progressive rock fan for the kost part so there are bands that have been around since the 70s that still go largely unnoticed. But if I have to give one band/artist to recommend it would be Mike Keneally www.keneally.com Samples can be heard at www.myspace.com/mikekeneally
He was Frank Zappa's "stunt guitar" player and singer for Zappa's final tour in 1988 and since then he has put out some consistently wonderful music be it as a solo act or with Mike Keneally & Beer for Dolphins or The Mike Keneally Band.

The whole title is actually National Lampoons Going The Distance. There is also atleast 2 people from Degrassi in it.
As for bands that not many people know about and keeping with the Canadian theme, Thine Eyes Bleed. They are a Technical Thrash band from London Ontario and are pretty kickass. People may have seen them as the opening band on The Unholy Alliance tour.

Yes! I went to that concert, but Slayer and Children of Bodom decided they didn't want to play, so it was just Thine Eyes Bleed, Mastodon, and Lamb of God, it was still unbelievable though.

I thought this was going to be a thread where you admit to secretly loving Kelly Clarkson or Jessica Simpson or some shit. I guess we're just talking low key bands that you like. So in that vane I'd have to say:
Neutral Milk Hotel
The Apples in Stereo
Olivia Tremor Control
I have others but they're sort of on the edge of being popular so I won't mention them since I'd probably get chastized for pointing out something that is obvious. I'm so out of touch with pop culture these days I can never tell when someone I like becomes "well known."

Haha, this thread is cracking me up because quite of few of the bands you guys are naming are no where near being underground or unknown bands! Perhaps some of them just aren't very popular or known where you live, but (for instance) Smile Empty Soul has been around for years and has even had a couple very popular songs (not just here in the LA area, my people in Seattle love them too)
A band I've known for quite some time, because they're from here, and is finally getting some more notice (and is even being played on my radio station KROQ) thanks to Myspace would be Shiny Toy Guns... LOVE THEM!! Also, Post Mortem Mannequin is from right here in Simi Valley, I think they're going somewhere.
I remember back in the day when I’d go see Death Cab for Cutie at little dive bars in Seattle… that day is no more. I’m happy for them, but I also miss having them as a little secret!

Word. I know they are a known around but its a band a lot of people haven't heard. Hell they had a video that would play on MTV2, late night, but still.
You mentioned Death Cab. This is one of those bands that everybody thought was their secret. Not realizing that people in other cities, regions, states where doing the same thing. Then when they blew up, even more, fans start to dislike them because too many people cite it them as a favorite. Death Cab, Smile Empty Soul, probably every band mentioned in this kind of forum, is known somewhere- and is not a secret.

Another canadian band that that not enough people know and totally kicks ass in 3 Inches of Blood. Thier are like a mixture of Maiden, Priest and Pantera.

Most of those guys and bands are pretty big in the metal community and Paul Gilbert had a number 1 single while he was in Mr. Big but he can shred like a mother.

Yeah, i've heard a song from 3 inches of blood, its the one about the orcs haha, pretty good stuff.

As I've said, the new Lacuna Coil stunk worse than, well, Comicon at full swing with broken A/C. The last Nightwish with Tarja ("Once") is superb, though. I don't listen to those bands THAT often, but I get into the mood once in a while.
In terms of lesser-known Canadian bands, 3IoB is okay (a little too tongue-in-cheek for me); I'd say Threat Signal is more my speed, and DEFINATELY Into Eternity.
Has anyone ever written an essay on the heavy metal connection to geekism? Homestar Runner in itself makes a great case for that.....

Though I did buy a cd by a band called Mojave 3, I had never heard of them but I thought they are pretty good.

Well to disagree with all those that mentioned swollen members...Mad child has no cadence...at all. I know everyone says thats his style but having no style (or in this case cadence) is not really a style.
I think he holds prevail down sometimes in my own humble opinion.
What I listen to currently would be little brother. I love their rap style and beats a lot.
I also listen to the biggest douche to ever be born in canada Danko jones....what can I say he rocks out, hard. The songs are so good. To bad he is an ass.
