Claw games are everywhere and there are almost as dark mysterious and full of questionable content as the Internet. Patrick, Dan and Dave take you through the inner working of a claw game and then combine the two greatest sins of modern time, games of chance and the Internet to create an internet enabled claw game

If your out at the Maker Faire this weekend then check out our booth where we have the crane game up and running. Enjoy

Can we get some screenshots of what the web interface looks like? Maybe a publicly playable version, wait in line, one coin per person?

Yeah, that's what I was hoping for, but was very disappointed not to see. I mean, the entire episode is about hooking a crane game up to the internet so that other people can use it... but then there's no finished example for us folks who don't have a crane game to do this with to use?

First off, I think your a great addition to the show. :)
Secondly, my 13 year old little brother has the same "Gone to my happy place" shirt you were wearing. I'm just saying... ;)
LOL
Keep up the good work guys, glad to see Systm back on schedule! :)

I never finished a backend to manage users and secure connections. Also I didn't get around to setting up secure connections or a way to manage the order of players so I ripped out what i was working on and made a simple completely open page for the game. At the end of the show we super imposed the two computer screens from each of our laptops in the show. So that was the actual interface you saw. If your interested in seeing the code for the pages you can download them from the article but as for playing it live I would expect to see that in the near future. After all I have to get on the next project because everyone is expecting another episode soon. ;)
P.S. here is a screen shot captured from us playing the game.

I hope those of you who live in the San Francisco Bay Area get a chance to come out to the Maker Faire. It'll be my first one and I am super excited!! If you do get a chance to come out, be sure to swing by the Revision3 booth and say hi. Who knows, you might even win some Revision3 schwag if you got mad crane skills!!

And who knows you just might get to meet chuck and get his autograph. Trust me it will be very valuable in the very near future.

We are hitting Systm hard and fast and for the long haul so expect more in the very near future. Keep posting your responses and let us know what you think and your ideas. Also spreading the word never hurts either. With out sounding like some marketing guy you (the fans) honestly will shape the future of Systm.
Really good show this time. Informative and entertaining. Good job.
If I could have changed anything, I think I'd have liked to see Dan & Dave go out "in the real world" with a hidden camera and... er.. "look" at some cranes and try to beat them.
Oh, and I saw my name in the credits too. Yay. Where's my T-shirt? ;)

Woo!! The Maker Faire was a blast. Got there bright and early yesterday with David R and had a blast the entire time there. The Revision3 included Prager, David R, Joey (MacGyver of Media), Glenn (MacDaddy of Media), Jessica Corbin, and Dan. Oh yeah!! Patrick was there also, sort of. You'll know what I mean by sort of.
I was hoping to have a couple of hours for myself to check out the the fair, but I had so much fun at the Revision3 booth, that I just ended up spending the whole day there. It was great meeting folks who enjoy our shows and handing out t-shirts to those who mastered their crane-fu. The folks from Justin.tv swung by and they all seem like pretty cool folks. Unfortunately for them, they have yet to master the art of internet-enabled crane.
The fair is still not over yet, so if you're near San Mateo, rush on over there!! David R and Brendan (/\/\4D |33t Unix dude) should both be there until about 5:00PM.

Why roll your on libusb library when you could just "apt-get install libusb-dev" to get the libusb library+headers and not risk getting into any sort of conflicts with any Debian packages that use libusb?
(I just think that would have been setting a better example for any viewers who aren't really into this.)
Nice episode, though... Not that I would build such an Internet connected claw thingamajing, but the USB gizmo shown off might still be incredibly useful in some other context.

Aside from the fact that your post makes no sense in any language I know (least of all English)...
It makes no difference what language is used to control the hardware. Whatever language/software is used, Apache will need permissions to access the software and the software will need permissions to access the USB port. And given the controller comes with a command line interface anyway, there's very little point in wrting custom C code for a hobby project like this.
you did a ****ing boring show !
...but obviously interesting enough for you to watch it all then post here.

theres a typo on the page http://revision3.com/systm/crane
If you want to have more than one switch on at a time then just add the two numbers together.
Example: 8+32=50 so -d:40 will turn on switches Digital 4 and Digital 6.
Example: 1+2+128=131 so -d:131 will turn on switches Digital 1,2 and 8.
Example 1+2+4+8+16+32+62+128=255 so -d:255 will turn all 8 switches on.
last time i checked, 8 + 32 = 40 not 50
Loved this show! thanks guys.
Maybe as a suggestion for future episodes, add some of the code dave was typing on the lower half of the screen. not sure if you could do it live or post, but i bet it would work well with the method you used to add the webcams in the lower part of the screen when pat and dave were dueling via the crane.

Just kind of curious the make/model of the IP camera they used in that project.
Hello everyone.
I to use this velleman k8055 board (well not for crane game :)) and i have a litle problem..
If i want to turn on for example output 6 i type k8055 -p:0 -d:32 and if i want to turn on ouput 5 k8055 -p:0 -d:16 etc.. And if i want to turn on 5 and 6 i type k8055 -p:0 -d:48. But what if i want to turn output 6 and leave pin 5 alone(not change the state of output 5 - i don't know if it is on or off) Anybody has any idea how to do this?
I was thinking bash scripting.... when i turn something on the script writes a variable that is turned on and then calculates the output for another output... But i have no idea how to do this..
Please help.
P.s. Sorry for my bad english i am not from english speaking country ;)
