So these video sites are popping up all over the place: I want to know how easy it is to do one. Are there any scripts you can use and customize or what? How much trouble is it to make from scratch? And which player is your favourite? I personally love Revver - the player feels solid which is a strange thing to say I know but I just feel like that. I also think the quality it puts out is great.

If you produce your own stuff, you have no legal issues to worry about, ever. And there are some great hosters of that sort of content, like libsyn.com. Those guys are awesome.
As for setting up a site, check out joomla, its a pretty decent template software of you know a little about website construction and have time to do some customization. Having time is always tough....

Oh no, I'm not asking about a CMS like Joomla (though if it's about doing my own thing with a CMS I would go with Drupal. I am talking about making a site like youtube letting people upload for themselves.

Ah, yes, Id like to know that as well, I think there is a market for a site like youtube that allows only original content and/or has less restricted size and time limits.

Just came across this article (http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/php/2007/05/24/creating-mytube-with-flex-and-php.html) about creating just such a thing.
