Episode 10: In the Studio: Asphodel and Recombinant Media Labs

In part one of a series, XLR8R Technology editor Ken Taylor takes you on a tour of one of electronic art's finest facilities, Asphodel and Recombinant Media Labs. Comprised of an unprecedented 16.8.2 -channel, 10-screen surround-cinema performance environment with an external control room, a suite full of new and old synthesizers (all in mint condition), a DVD- and CD-mastering studio and a recording studio with top-of-the-line equipment spanning nearly every era of electronic music, Asphodel and RML is a sound artist's dream come to life. While the technology is impressive, it's only one aspect of what makes these studios special. We'll explore the facility further in future episodes.

I've been there, and it is a floor-quaking, bone-shaking, almost bowel-releasing, experience. The sound really pushes you around. It's cool to see it in this footage with all the video screens functioning. Too bad we can't watch the episode in full 16.6.2 channel sound with ten screens. God, the internet is so limited. Do you think Naut Humon's internet is more advanced? Anyway, I'm glad xlr8r's doing some episodes on this amazing and unusual venue, and sharing it with a broader audience.

I noticed at the end of this AMAZING video, that it said stay tuned for part two of this interview.

So when are we gonna get to see part two?

Part Two is Episode 11, the Pole episode...here's the description:
In part two of our series on Recombinant Media Labs, XLR8R Technology Editor Ken Taylor looks at the facility through the eyes of Berlin-based musician Stefan Betke, aka Pole. To a soundboard master like Pole, Asphodel is not only "a dreamland" but fertile ground for his dub-heavy explorations. Watch as he experiences Asphodel Studios for the first time.

oh damn, i thought they were going to get more in depth with NH and his experiments in sound and visuals.

I really did dig the Pole show...quite amazing to see an actual interview from him.
