XGL is to render the Desktop with OpenGL to have special effects like liquid, flexible windows, the Desktop is like a "texture" on a cube you can rotate and so on.
There are some Pictures and movies:
http://www.linuxedge.org/?q=node/58
http://youtube.com/watch?v=lawkc3jH3ws
I've tryes XGL just a cuple month ago. Its really funny to flip the screen on 2 TFTs, but after a few weeks of use, its really anoying and you can't work seriously with this flabby windows.

ncmpc (with -c for color) in the upper left which i use for music (It controls MPD)
lower left is IRSSI for irc
lower right is just a terminal
oh and the text in the looooooooowwww right corner is one instance of conky that displays some MPD information. There is another conky in the upper left that tells me if i have new emails but it's under ncmpc.
Panel is xfce4-panel but I'm also in the middle of playing with pypanel and perlpanel too to see which i prefer. Did a server install of Ubuntu then installed X and OpenBox. Gonna install fvwm in a few days and toy around with that one later.

Any stutter is because the frames are moving too fast as I was capturing in theora at a constant framerate of about 24 FPS or so. Then of course, I compressed it to xvid to make it smaller, so I apologize for any video artifacts.

Hey djoutlaws,
that brings back old memories, the good old days of the Amiga. I had 3 of them, Amiga 500, then the 2000 with all the goodies like AVG accelerator card, extra memory and hard drive. That thing smoked, a blazing 30Mhz : lol. Also had the OpalVision card, so I spent a bit of $$$ on that. Finally I had the CD32 console with the movie adapter so I could watch VCD movies on it. Now Iam using a PC with Ubuntu Linux, could be worse I suppose, could be stuck using Windows. Though I still wish I was using my Amiga. Anyway here is a pic of my Desktop.
I try to make all my GUIs look the same, right now though I'm using standard gnome with the human theme edited with Dust window borders.
I was using KDE with this theme and the LXDE on my EeePC looks almost the same.
BTW the dock at the botum is just made in Plasma and I use Cario on my LXDE EeePC.
