Hey everyone

So lately I've been just hunting around the interweb for cool things to learn about, Like:
Web Design
Photoshop
Computer generated animation (Maya, 3d Studio max)
Programming

I have a beginner knowledge of Photoshop and web design.
I am 16 years old, and all of the above interest me. I just really would like to go in depth in one of those subjects.

So I am just wondering if you could post what path you took to take in depth? And maybe some advantages you can came by for learning about it.

Thanks alot!

Dude!

First, I applaud you thinking about the future.

Second, Take it easy! You have several years to decide what you want to do for a career. If you are smart enough, you should go for a more general education. Maybe something will present itself that you like more and pays better then what you have mentioned.

In any case, when I was your age, I had already won several state awards for computer programming. I thought I would become a computer programmer. It wasn't until much later that discovered where my real passion was. Suffice it to say, it is not computer programming.

Picking a career at sixteen is like picking a wife at sixteen...

What masher said, but i'll also mention that I find the best way to learn about a program is to dive into it headfirst and learn how it works by yourself. Learning from a book works for some people, but I find that it gets too boring. I just did what I could with the programs I was interested in using, and if I ever ran into a snag I would go and find a place that would be able to explain what I was doing. This helps give you more knowledge as to how the software works so you gradually are able to figure more things out by yourself.

But then again, i'm a hands-on learner. You could be different and may need another approach. Reguardless, hopefully you'll find which path will be best for you in the long run and hey, even if it doesn't become your primary career choice it surely doesn't hurt to know a little extra on the side, can it?

I can't program - not for the life of me, I am not that smart a person. I say, go with what you like. I like writing and media so that's what I am getting involved with. Also, try a little of everything.
