Okay Im a soon to be chef, and the crab that heather and alex used... Was in fact not blue shell crab *which is often found on the eastern coast*.
The crab they used is called dungeness crab, its on the other side of the US *West side*.
Blueshell crab is also a little different, in that its shell can be soft... After molting and before growning its new shell they are soft and, really damn good.
For some horrible reason Alex bought already cooked crab, which In my opnion is a big NO NO. Unless you live where you cant get fresh. Secondly if crab is fish smelly thats bad dont eat it, if it smells like iodine again dont eat it... The more lively the crab the better *if you get fresh* go after the ones that seem like they want to fight a lot..
Last and not least shell fish unlike other fish are not able to feel pain so dont worry about cooking them live.
