View Full Version : The Death of Diggnation

I suppose it's fitting, if a little sad that episode 100 should be by far the worst Diggnation ever (and I've watched them all).

I know it's been going downhill for a while, but this was so bad it hurt to watch. Nobody wants to see a pointless drunken argument about nothing. And I certainly don't want to watch 30 year old men acting like 12 year olds. And as for Joey's stupid, childish hand gestures...

Oh... and I can't believe how uninformed Kevin seems to be about Microsoft Surface. For a start, it's not a consumer device, it's aimed at hotels, restaurants & casinos. And there are *loads* of digital cameras that have wifi these days.

There was a time when Diggnation actually discussed the stories. These days, they're either too drunk, too busy making schoolboy jokes, or just don't care about the stories. It's not coherent and it's not entertaining.

Rev3 has some great shows and great hosts, but Diggnation is dying - and dying horribly. I say it's time to kill it and replace it with something fresher.

People are overreacting to this episode, they can't all be classics.

One of them was probably having a bad day, or sometihng along those lines.

Although this was not one of the best episodes, I don't feel that the show is dead. Honestly the quality has been great the past few episodes, and one bad day won't change that. (I think the 100th episode was mediocre mainly because Alex was so shit-faced he couldn't make a coherent argument)

I do see the downhill trend though. It appears that their hearts aren't into it like they used to be. I came into the show late, and I prefer watching the older episodes. When they had a sense of professionalism even when they were far from it. Though Alex seems back to his old self on Totally Rad at least =)

But I don't see the show as dead, just doesn't have that growing look and feel to it. The show is becoming a "been there done that", so I don't blame them.

As Kevin mentioned drinking to much can ruin weekend drinking.. Have a Tea every once in a while, it's cool. We won't hate. [most of us anyway] Getting wasted about every episode will ruin the occasions they do.

I think they should try to do some shows outside in the fresh air and not drink so much.

It feels like the 100th show was shot late at night after a whole day of drinking.

??? Microsoft, atleast as far as I know, has yet to sue anyone based on copyright. I'm sure, like every company, they care about not having it infringed, but Microsoft is more focused on trying to stop people from cracking their OS more than who is breaking the copyright.

What's with the name of this thread? "The Death of Diggnation"? So, one drunken episode with a mere 8 minute incoherent argument means diggnation is dieing? I'm surprized he didn't also mention the camera guy's hand in the shots, but I guess that must be the dirt going on the coffin for him.

I think everyone is just upset because they were let down on the 100th episode. I think it was an ok episode, but thats the problem it was only ok...and everyone was expecting something big and exciting.

I don't get why everyone is freaking out on ep 100. Was it ever supposed to be anything more than a party/celebration for 100 episodes of diggnation?

The reasons people disliked this episode seems to be the reason they liked all the other ones. It's only ok if they are drunk enough to vomit, spill beer, mispronounce everything and once theyre drunk on an episode clearly meant to be a party episode it becomes the death of the show?

Isnt that why you watch the show to begin with? To see two guys talking about tech and having a good time and by consequence have fun with them?

It's hardly an arm and a leg, unless you're searching on the black market for body parts, and how exactly is it being forced upon us? I didn't realise anyone from Revision3 was coming in to your house, sitting you down by the computer and forcing you to watch the show.

Edit: Whoops, just noted that it *may* have been sarcarm! Too early in the morning for me. Still, the sentence applies to others :D

And there are *loads* of digital cameras that have wifi these days.

If you believe that, you're living in a dream-world. Either way, I agree with Kevin's argument, I agree that Alex is wrong, in saying that I've heard nothing about the protocol they'll be using, and having this work securely (ie, when you place it on your desk at work, someone can't read it with their own hidden device) without any user input (remember, it's supposed to "just work") is something that I don't see as being possible with our current state of technology

As much as I agree, this was the 100th episode. Diggnation is known for having some sort of epic live show and also the talks of streaming the show live was mentioned.

Anything less than a live show was disappointing news, but then to have them to be that drunk and incoherent really didn't help. They ended up bickering mindlessly about Surface.

Unless they specifically stated in episode 99 they were going to be doing a live show, people shouldn't have gotten their hopes up. If you found it disappointing it's because you thought you were getting something which they never proclaimed they were definitely going to do. I don't remember anyone proclaiming "we are doing a live show, the location is here, and the time is"...

I do seem to remember them discussing in a previous episode that they were going to get a cake.

Which they did. And everyone love delicious cake.

ok, since they began the podcast diggnation, what was it? a podcast talking about, not only tech news, but, the most dugg stories of the week from digg.com, and, since they began the show, they've drunk beer. you cannot blame them for not doing anything different, they've done the same thing for 100 eps, and you cannot blam them now becuase they didnt do anything speical for the 100th. this is not the death of diggnation. now, it may be for you, but your just a little whiny *****, who prob. whine about anything for attention. get a life.

I haven't listened to DiggNation for a while now. I've read the first post of this thread but I really can't be arsed reading the rest. It's motivated me to download the latest episode and watch it though.

If it turns out that it's not really crap, like the original poster said I'm gonna come back and kick all your asses for being a bunch of whinney ponces ... y'hear?

So now they were incoherent? They seemed quite intelligible to me. I'm still amazed that a *slightly* heated argument during a single story has turned it into a endless discussion worthy of multiple threads and doom and gloom.

Alex did keep cutting kevin off but he always does, he's the hyper one of the duo. However this time it looked like kevin was going to punch him and be like "dude stfu for a second!" They were drinking "angry beer" as my family calls it.

I agree with everyone that this post was started with a bit too much drama. Melodramatic, indeed, bless them words. The original poster may have had too much motivation to discredit this show. Far as the 100th being a let down. Ok, I feel that too. A LIL' BIT. Hey the 50th ep. was a closed show with a cake as well. Tradition my brotha'. That is reaching too.

But the 50th was that way and the one year anniversery was a live one, unless I am mistaking. Maybe for 2 years? Hey for these folks the anniversery may be measured in years an not the dewey decimal system. (Ok that is a horribly inaccurate reference, not to mention horrible misspellings.)

They were also seemed to be more drunk than usual. With out the party atmosphere of a live show that may seem more argumentative. Don't read too much into it.

Diggnation may very well be the most popular Podcast on the net. Let's face it it is true. It ain't goin' nowhere.

I think the original poster is really overreacting here. The episode really wasn't that bad. Granted, it wasn't the best episode ever, and there are a few things that really irritated me, but it wasn't so terrible as to call it the "Death of Diggnation." That's just flat out wrong. =P

Now, I do agree with some of the comments already presented in this thread. I do think they started off the show after drinking a bit too much. I agree with the person in this thread that suggested having a show or two without the heavy drinking (I think that poster suggested tea: that'd actually be kinda cool). You (Alex and Kevin) joke about the damage to your livers all of the time, but it seriously CAN'T be good for them to get really drunk EVERY episode. I understand it in the party-atmosphere of the live episodes, but on the recorded ones you could drink just a tad bit less. Just have one or two beers as you discuss the stories.

Any MS vs Mac story is going to cause a debate between the left and right sides of the couch. However, this episode it just didn't seem like either one knew when to stop. It just kept dragging on and on and was immensely irritating. Just move on already! =P

I'm starting to get this feeling that Kevin and Alex are starting to get sick of each other. For the past 15 episodes they have been going at each other more and more hardcore. I just feel like sooner or later they're just gonna get so pissed at each other they're not gonna continue with the show, and it'll be over or Kevin will get a new co-host. But maybe it's just because they keep getting totally drunk before each show. If you can tell Alex is totally cool on the "Totally Rad Show" but on "Diggnation" he's loud and kinda annoying. I can tell Kevin is getting annoyed by him, example ep. 100 Kevin was getting pissed because Alex wouldn't let him talk. Watch back some episodes you will see that it has happened may times before. Sooner or later Kevin's gonna just boot his ass and get someone new. The tension in the shows are growing fast.

Maybe they should not turn up to the show already wasted lol and then drink some more. I think the difference between Alex on Diggnation and on TRS is that he isn't drunk on TRS and he obviously (like most people) gets a little wilder when drunk which causes them to argue a little.

Also it was the Mac vs. Windows argument that heats up the discussion even more.

I don't think the show is dead but i am not looking forward to another episode like #100.
