Come on ... give details.

I tried to convince my boss to replace my stolen laptop with a MBP running Parallels or just dual booting. He wouldn't drop the $2k on the box for me - looks like it will be another HP coming my way.

Well its the middle Macbook Pro model 15" glossy screen. The only reason I have to wait 4-6 weeks is because I upgraded to a 7200rpm hard drive. It's the newly released model by the way.

Isn't there a lot of software for tracking mac's?

*sigh* what about the new MBPs coming out in like... yesterday you should have waited and either gone with the new gen books or reaped savings on the older ones.

There is something funny about the new MBP why would they stick with the old reference design when they could do so much more, i guess they like the current style i thought with WWDC coming up they would of done something crazy instead of just a incremental update with the LED backlit screen on the 15 inch models. We will see what comes out of it

In terms of your buy you wont regret it, I've had my mac now for nearly half a year and it's one of the best laptops i've ever had. Apart from some slight problems with the chassis/trackpad/lid hinge/side of base/bezel they are an awesome OS and okay* built machine

*okay - stretched meaning of the word :)

Man, that one is gonna travel far. When I ordered mine it took 2 weeks and went from China, to Alaska, to somewhere in the middle of the U.S., then to New Jersey, then to Virginia, and finally to my house in Maryland. If she makes it in one piece, be proud of your baby. :)

Haha yea, probably also I will be sitting there because I'm going to have to adjust to using a mac.

Haha yea, probably also I will be sitting there because I'm going to have to adjust to using a mac.

Advice to make the transition easier.

A. Almost impossible to break, try everything: if you can click it or select it, you can drag it and drop it onto anything, other apps, icons, folders, the dock, icons in the dock. If it is "not supposed to be" the option will be grayed out, or the draggee will bounce back to where it came from. No damage done.

B. Putz with the preferences in every app, or the system-prefs/finder, You learn so much about the programs doing that. But stay away from the Networking pane unless you know what you're doing or do some research.

C. Live on the website Macosxhints.com for a week or two. Best way to learn the ins and outs, minutiae and overall of OS X. Macnn.com forums are full of awesome friendly helpful people, too.

D. Use two button mouse if you use a mouse with it, otherwise learn the fun new tricks with the trackpad that I can't elaborate on cause my ibook is too old to support them.

E. Don't be afraid to install/uninstall anything, clean and easy. drag app to trash. App Icons are secretly just folders containing the code and stuff, not spread out all over the system like in windows. The only other file most apps create are preferences files...tiny little things that you might as well keep incase you re-install a program that you already tweaked...

I'm not getting any glare at all, and I am having a weird problem in which the computer doesnt save any settings. I configured my mail, firefox, itunes and all of them lost their settings after 2 hours. And on top of that, my video files i placed on my desktop are nowhere to be found.

I'm not really talking about glare, it gets dirty extremely easy.

Any chance you have multiple accounts set up on your MBP? There's another thread in the mac section where another guy was having a similar problem with his settings disappearing and I think he had multiple account set up but wasn't aware.

Apparently I found out the hard way, renaming your user folder is a no no

That'll do it. :)

To change it you need to go into the account settings and change it there rather than changing the folder name.

It's like a right of passage.

I got another question, is there anyway when I close a program it actually closes and doesn't just go into my dock with a black arrow under its icon?

i did the same exact thing, with the 7200 rpm hard drive but I also ordered a blue tooth mighty mouse, printer, synergy backpack, incase neoprene sleeve. I ordered mine right after iLife 08' came out so it came preinstalled. Since you adc, that means you got leopard sent to you how do you like it.

pretty good, havent really messed around with it much. But I like how the video chats on iChat finally work regardless if im video chatting with someone on a mac or pc. The effects on iChat and photobooth are awesome. File sharing is easier than ever. That's pretty much all I've checked out.
