Hi everyone, to make a long story short I have an idea for a website and I was curious as to whats the best way to go about it getting made a reality. I don't really know anyone who is really good with flash and html and all that jazz, so first of all are there any good web designers online? Lastly, I was just curious as the pros and cons of having an online website designer creating the website.
Thanks for the help.
Sean
P.S.
If anyone is interested in helping with the design of website feel free to pm me.

You can try elance.com to find people. As for people online, there are tons of great people online, you can go from the very expensive, like SilverOrange who did Digg, or independants. Depending on what it is and if you are on a budget (sounfs like you are) finding and independant designer may be best - if it's Flash and HTML I can probably help out in that.

Coming into summer, there are also a ton of talented high school students that would probably design a great site on the cheap over their vacations just for a reference off your site.

He sent me a PM and judging from what I was told, it would be a large undertaking possibly. I won't say anything unless darksyns says it publically though but I encouraged him to ask questions here.

I was also interested in finding out what type of process I would have to go through to start up a website. This will be my first one and I honestly don't know that much about it.

I'm a web designer of sorts, so if you need any help, you can PM me. I don't know much flash, but I know my way around (X)HTML and CSS.

I don't know much flash, but I know my way around (X)HTML and CSS.Flash? FLASH????
Don't bother. Flash is soooooooooo 20th century. All the cool kids are moving to Adobe's Apollo or Microsoft's Silverlight ... and so it become proprietary again :(
As someone that works in the industry (web based solftware solutions), I would say that your CSS and (X)HTML knowledge is the right approach. If you don't know AJAX, that is a cool technology set to use as well - but requires some backend programming knowledge (PHP, Ruby, Java, etc).

Is this a fan site, a fun site, or a business site?

I guess it would be more of a business/fun site.

Agreed. Flash looks nice, but I don't think it's worth learning. I like to stick to standards-compliant stuff and avoid any proprietary.

How much would you guys think it would cost to get an okay website made, like something pretty basic but good looking and function? I am also looking into getting a website made for me and my friends who are making short films and stuff, so I just want something pretty basic.
