After the question in this weeks episode, I wanted to share the books/stories I would like brought to the screen and see what everyone else's are?

1. Running Man - I'd love to create a HBO series based on Stephen King's short story. It's one of my favourite reads and the movie really doesn't do it justice.

2. The DragonLance Chronicles - I was a big DragonLance fan as a kid and I remain so today. Apparently the first book in the Chronicles Trilogy is currently being made as an animated feature, but I'd love to see it as Live Action.

3. Any book featuring Drizzt Do'Urden - I'm a big fan of R.A.Salvatore's dark elf character and I'd love to see some of his works brought to any size screen. Considering how many books the character has featured in, you could probably make quite a long running series out of it.

I can't wait to see what they do with the HBO series based on "A Song of Ice and Fire"

Alan Dean Foster's "Spellsinger" series deserves to be made into a movie, and it would be a legit way to get a rock soundtrack into a medieval/fantasy setting.

I'd love to see "ringworld" or Fredrick Pohl's "Gateway".

Other than that I really really really really want a good film of "Princess of Mars", or any of the "Land that Time Forgot" saga. I'm a sucker for Edgar Rice Burroughs.

A Song of Ice and Fire on HBO, except for the next book in the series, that is the one thing in the entertainment industry I'm looking forward to the most.

I like that they're going animated with Dragonlance, I don't think live action would work at all.

Heyyyy, if LOTR can work, DragonLance can surely work (with the same budget and studio support).

Well an American version of Battle Royale would have been cool, but WWE already butchered that...

No, I totally disagree. Lotr is a much more adult book. It's darker, it's more serious, it's more complex, it's more realistic, it's much, much better suited for the big screen.
Try and read the Dragonlance books again, I think they can pull it off much better animated.
Doesn't matter how much money they throw after that movie, I do not think it could work as a live action movie.

I actually prefer them to the LOTR books, so we'll have to agree to disagree.

TBH though, I'm just happy there'll be any version of them.

Terry Pratchetts Discworld series.

The problem would be getting a director who could bring the Discworld to life. You would need someone with as much passion for the Discworld as Jackson had for LOTRs. And a cast believable enough to pull off the unique characters of the Discworld.

I tried to reread the original dragonlance trilogies as an adult. I read them originally as a young teenager and loved them. I barely made it through half of the first book before I couldn't take it anymore. I felt it was written for kids and it lost a LOT of luster from when I remember reading it as a kid.

I'd love to see King's "The Dark Tower" series, or Clive Barker's "Weaveworld" put into movies.

I would love to see anything by Brian Keene made into a movie but with stuff like "The Rising" they would cut out waaaay to much and just kill the whole book pretty fast.

To me its always kinda scary to see a book go to the big or small screen...

Do you know a few of the books have already been filmed?

I also came in here to mention ASOIAF. It has the potential to be so good. I'm re-reading the first 4 books right now - one chapter per night :) I'm halfway through A Storm of Swords. This is probably my favorite series of books ever.

The second half of a Storm of Swords is amazing. So much S hits the F.

The Dragonlance series are kids/teenage books. No doubt.

wideawakewesley I didn't say Lotr were better books than Dragonlance, I said they were more suited for the big screen.

That's awesome! I had no idea, how do I get my hands on those?

Here's all that needs to be said on this thread: "Uncle Fred in the Springtime." Holy crap that Wodehouse guy knows how to craft a sentence.

I'd suggest either looking for DVDs or if you can't buy them, I'm sure you know of other places to look.

I would love to see anything with Grand Admiral Thrawn from the Star Wars novels by Timothy Zahn. I love reading about him and would love to see him portrayed on the big screen.

Timothy Zahn.....

I read those books so long ago. I remember I liked them a lot, but I can't remember the books or the plot. I remember Admiral Thrawn, and some whiney jedi kid that luke lost to the dark side.

Check out Outbound Flight, it goes into when Thrawn was first discovered by anyone from within the Republic and why he left the Chiss.

There were rumors swirling around forever about an Invisible Monsters movie with Jessica Biel in the lead role. To that I say, "**** yeah."

Yes, totally agree with the Zahn trilogy. I would really really like to see the Dragonriders of Pern on any screen. I love those books.

I'd absolutely love to see C.S. Lewis's (little known) novels Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, & That Hideous Strength as films. I hope the Narnia movies continue to do amazingly well at the box office so we might have a chance to see these made.
