I am planning on buying my first MacBook very soon and I am not sure if I should get 1 or 2 gb of ram.
I will be mainly using this for: music, videos, pics, internet, downloading, online poker, chatting, and possibly photoshop every now and again (but rare)
should I get 2gb?

more is better IMO, but i was going to ask if someone should have apple do it during build or for your self to do it at a later time to make it cheaper.
I'm looking to buy a Macbook Pro

According to this support article at Apple's site, it looks fairly simple on the Macbook Pro to do it yourself.
Go to the Apple Support site and search for article number 303491
I did the similar procedure on my Powerbook and it to a total of ten minutes, most of which was removing and reinstalling the screws holding in the memory cover.
Find out what Apple charges to add the RAM at purchase and then price out cost to do it on your own. It will probably be cheaper to do it yourself.
EDIT: I had tried to link to the article, but for some reason the link keeps getting obscured by the forum. Not sure why so I just provided the article number so you can find it yourself.

It is extremely easy to upgrade your RAM yourself on the MacBooks. I purchased the lowest RAM for my MacBook and then ordered 2 sticks of 1 GB RAM from memorytogo.com (http://www.memorytogo.com/e-store/prod_details~pid~1316221779639~mid~58328.htm) for under $90. I know it sounds like I'm plugging a site I'm affiliated with or something, but I had great service from them and thought I would pass along the info.
Oh, and it took literally 5 minutes to upgrade my RAM. SO EASY. Apple FTW.

A computer can always use more RAM; however, adding RAM also adds a lot of heat. 2GB of RAM won't be excessively hot, so you should be alright. I have a new SR 2.4GHZ MBP w/ 2GB RAM and the heat is fine.

Oh my god, don't buy RAM from Apple.com but from your local RAM-Farmer !! It is 1/4th of the price.
I wanted to go from 1gb to 2gb when I ordered my mac pro, that's $299 for 2x512 more. I didn't do this, went to local shop and bought 4gb for $299. Honestly, if you want to feel getting ripped off, buy it from apple directly. If you want to enjoy a pimped out mac, upgrade it yourself. It's uber easy.
