XLR8R TV's Brianna Pope heads to the best party at this year's Detroit Electronic Music Festival-Soul Skate '07-to get the real dirt on Detroit rollerskating. The reclusive, legendary Detroit DJ/producer Kenny Dixon, Jr. (a.k.a. Moodymann) hosted the night, which brought out not only loyal Detroit music fans, but also lifelong Motown skaters who don't mess around when it comes to serious roller parties. Rock, skate, roll, bounce!

This is my favorite episode so far, edging out the one where Joakin draws monsters.

This may as well just be one big Remy Martin advertisement, they should considering hiring him as a spokesperson.

Watching this show reminded me of when i was 11 and would get dropped off at the rink. and all the kids were so cool and tough (haha) and i felt so small and vulnerable and i couldnt skate. all the hot girls were "rexing" with the hot guys. that meant skating backwards sexy like. anyway after I watched this episode i decided i could go to a rink and i would be the cool tough one. but there is NO rinks in SF. geez, ill never win.

the leader of the skate crew is so self confident and foxy. and i dig those cowboy boot roller skates. damnnnnn:D

i love how this show keeps on interviewing indie-rock stars without even knowing it... check the SXSW episode too.

Aah...I remember my first date at Edru Roller Rink...it was 6th Grade, I was there with Lynn Davidson on a double-date with Rob Berrringer and Doris Sullivan. It was all fun and games until I twisted my ankle. I think after the roller rink Rob's Dad picked us up in the van and took us to Lynn and Doris's floor hockey game. I seem to remember eating junk food there and being withdrawn, moody and mysterious (not even on purpose!) - the joys of 6th grade.

One job I worked at everyone went roller skating about once a month, it was hilarious. Everyone had a blast.

Wish they would do a winter episode this year with snowboarders... we're people too... (Not to take anything away from those who Skate) Some of us have to change our whole latitude to find a decent place. In fact, a lot of cool places up here will almost chase you away with the cops if you tried to skate on their pavement. (Something about liability or whatever.)

Why do cops in Alaska hate roller skaters?

Dunno, maybe they don't get enough fiber in their diet. I love fiber. Twisted pair sucked, y'know. Any-hoo, I think it's because they are slow enough to catch with a cruiser. Jus' kidding. Maybe they're jealous they can't skate. Or, jus' maybe they are haters because a skater looks cooler than they do, and they get too hot in their heavy, and rather drab outfits? You're guess is as good as mine. Maybe it's the -60F temps that put the zap on 'em. Ya' got to love 'em though, they do a good job from time to time.

I need more fiber. I am about to get back on the citrucil again. Damn. Anyway, I want to get a skateboard again but I am afraid I have gotten uncoordinated in my old age.
