So, this morning I went to my local marathon gas station to get a red bull. Did
i come back with one? No. And i cant figure out why. They told me that i was
not 18, therefore i could not purchase one. I got in a argument with the lady, with no luck. I was wondering, can they do this? Can they really ID people for caffeinated energy drinks?

They have the right to refuse service to anyone.
Nothing illegal about you buying redbull though.
Perhaps she thought it was alcoholic rather than caffeinated?

Well, she knew it was caffeinated. Becuase she was like you cant purchase any of the energy drinks under the age of 18. It really bugged me.

What you do is open the can start to drink it and give the money to them have to sell it than. :D Though they may try to get ya for shoplifting.

When I was maybe 16, me and my friends went into a gas station and they were going to buy energy drinks... they grabbed them and then we turned around to head to the register, and the lady was like, "I see what you guys are trying to do."
I'm still not sure if she thought we were shoplifting, or if she thought we were trying to buy something we weren't allowed to. I think we just left with nothing instead of even confronting her.

I've bought energy drinks in numerous places, I've never ran into anything like that.

Oh man, I'd never steal from a gas station. You got those bored, wild-eyed bastards with assault rifles taped to the underside of their counter next to some amputee porn and a box of saltines. Although to make an abrupt return to reality they're also well-guarded when it comes to theft because they get hit so often. Leave the gas stations to the armed robbers, folks.

To be clear, we weren't stealing(never stolen anything in my life), but I'm not sure if the lady thought we were trying to steal, or if she wasn't going to sell energy drinks to minors. Oh well, it happened a long time ago. I don't even drink energy drinks.

Yeah, I got that. Sorry, should have been more clear. Maybe it was a case of overly paranoid clerks. I've got this lady at a drug store back home that is 100% sure my ID is fake. She looks the thing over for a solid ten seconds everytime I buy cigarettes there. Too bad it's not a coin so she could bite it and be done!

May be a new store policy. People are getting crazy trying to keep kids away from "bad stuff".

I think the lady was just a moron. Tell your buddies not to buy gas there.

Probably just a *****. I'd ask if she was of a certain nationality, but don't want to be accused of racism.
