Who saw it, and what did you think? I was a pretty good popcorn flick with a good mix of action and humor. I really don't see how it could be done better, given that the Fantastic Four is very much a product of its time and has to be done tongue-in-cheek. The part of the movie I worried most about was the power-switching, but it turned out well and set us up for the nice "super-skrull" sequence. Alba is the brunt of the criticism, but Ioan Gruffudd is actually the weakest cast member, playing Mr Fantastic like a cheesy dad from a sitcom. Chris Evans, just like the first film, is the standout. With lowered expectations, this movie is satisfying fluff.

Even with lowered expectations I hated it. No real fight scenes, no real action pieces. They spent more time talking about the wedding then anything. That wouldn't have been so bad, if there was even a little bit of chemistry between the two of them.
This movie even had a dance number by Reed Richards! I had Spidey 3 flash backs.

'Fantastic Four' rides $57M wave to top
By DAVID GERMAIN, AP Movie Writer
LOS ANGELES - Hollywood's superhero foursome is still fantastic at the box office.
The 20th Century Fox sequel "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" debuted as the No. 1 weekend flick with $57.4 million in sales, slightly surpassing the $56.1 million opening of "Fantastic Four" two years ago, according to studio estimates Sunday.
Saw it today with no expectations and found it an okay diversion. Better than the first one which felt small to me. This was like early Fantastic Four, real early, like #25 and earlier. But the climax suffers by not really involving the heroes.
And replacing Doug Jones as the Surfer's voice was ridiculous because Lawrence Fishburne is practically doing a Doug Jones impression. Very, very close.
I'm sure there'll be another. If so, I'd want to see Mole Man with the FF fighting big, giant monsters.

That would be a pretty cool take on a third movie, maybe have him attacking in retaliation for the holes the Surfer made into the crust.
They just need to make it more of a "Family that is a fighting team", then a "bunch of celebrity's that may or may not have to attend a wedding" movie.
I'm sure I would have liked the movie a little bit, if I hadn't seen the concept done so well in the Incredibles.

i hated the first one and went into this with low expectations. I would have been happy if it was even moderately better than the first and i was pleasently surpised. It's not a great movie by any means but it was a great representation of the FF. I think the FF are cheesy to begin with so having the actors ham it up on screen didn't bother me. Sure some of the performances were stiff and some of the dialogue was cheesy but i expected it, and once you accept that this film was made for 12 yr old kids and just let go, you can really enjoy it. The action was great as were the special effects and the story was far superior to the first flick. the silver surfer was awesome, although he didn't kick as much ass as i would have liked. He also looked much better as a computer animation than an actor in makeup. Galactus was wasted and while i didn't enjoy the change i can understand why it was done. what didn't make sense to me was how Norin Radd could negotiate with a cosmic cloud???
all in all this movie was better than Ghost Rider, Daredevil, FF 1, X3 and Spidey 3, but it's still not a classic, just a better representation of the FF.
Also Doom was better in this movie than the last, though that doesn't say much. Perhaps by FF 5 we will finally get a true Dr Doom on screen....

Knowing Marvel, they will capatilize on upcoming storylines and we'll end up with a Skrull-Kee War rehash. Which i don't mind, but i'm a fan of the Mole Man or Namor; But with Alicia around they could even do Puppet Master, man this brings back memories.
I liked the movie, like Tad said it remind me of old FF. I liked the family togetherness thing that showed what the FF was about, also it showed the tifts that come up between Reed and Sue which are commonly shown in the book. Granted i didn't have as high expectations for this movie as the other Marvel or DC films, but it didn't suck.

Saw it Friday night. I liked it about the same as the first one. I don't think it's anything ground breaking nor do I think it is going to garner any prizes, but it is a fun cheese ball movie.
I only have two complaints.
1. Why didn't we get to see Galactus?
2. In a movie that does corny cheese ball stuff so well, why is the biggest cheese ball villain in comics, Dr Doom, played as a cool guy?
I really enjoyed the family interactions, I liked the portrayal of the Silver Surfer, I loved the Stan Lee cameo(I think this is my favorite one thus far) and the effects were great.
I hope the success of the opening weekend gives us another one.

I'd love to see a Namor movie. I think I remember hearing rumblings of this a few years back. Just thinking about what they could do with green screen and computer effects gives me goosebumps. It would be a completely original movie, i can't think of anything out there that even comes close (using real life actors of course). Plus if they make Namor an arrogant prick it could prove to be a really fun movie.

With all the franchises coming together like this, I'd really like to see them do some kind of team-up movie. I'd love to see Spider-Man and the Hulk together, maybe with cameos from the FF or X-Men.

The Stan Lee cameo was HILARIOUS. although i seemed to be the only one in the theatre laughing at it:rolleyes:
If the show i went to was any indication, i don't think there will be a third. People got burned the first time, and i had an extremely hard time talking my friends in going to see this one with me. The theatre i was in was only 1/3 full on opening weekend (admittely it was a 5 o'clock show on sunday afternoon) but this isn't a good sign. Fool them once with FF and people will be hard pressed to get fooled a second (or third) time.

The problems with this theory are:
1. Marvel doesn't control the next movie or its storyline.
2. The movie is at least two years away at which point the Kree storyline will have long been over.

Its a real possibility with the new Marvel studios. We may have to wait a decade or so for Marvel get back the development rights for Spidey and the X-men, but damn would it be fun to see a massive Marvel Movie crossover..... Secret Wars the Movie.... Civil War the Movie.... World War Hulk the movie??? = AWESOME!!!

After this weekend, well, you can add beating box office skeptics to the Fantastic Four's little bag of superpowers: The quartet's big-budget sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer generally exceeded industry expectations, opening at No. 1 with $57.4 million.
That's a shade better than the $56.1 mil debut of Fantastic Four two years ago. It also makes for the best Father's Day weekend premiere ever, besting Scooby-Doo's $54.2 mil in 2002.

I heard that they were planning an Avengers movie. I guess they'll do it when the core characters have finished their own movies.

I desperately want to see this movie, being one of the 7 people that didn't hate the first one, and a huge Norin Radd fan. Nice to hear the generally positive reviews. I wonder when it comes out in Japan...

Jessica Alba Wants To Make 'Fantastic Four 3'
Jessica Alba hopes to feature in a third installment of the comic book-turned-movie Fantastic Four - as a mother. The star - who plays Sue Storm in the first two films - would like to see her crime-fighting character face a much more common challenge in the next movie.
She says, "I hope we'll do another. I think Sue needs to be a mother. It would be fun to see her try to juggle being a mother, a wife and a superhero."
