The only manga that was better than the animated version was Akira. That is saying alot because I am a HUGE fan of the film.
Then again I don't read much of this stuff.

I see no one making this confusion in the previous posts...
Blade of the Immortal by Hiroaki Samura.
My fave manga ever.
It's called Mugen no Jyuunin in Japan.

The Dragonball manga was kinda cool. The Dragonball anime was like shooting yourself in slowmotion.

Slam Dunk, and Battle Royale where... epic mangas. Battle Royale is disturbing and creepy but its a really interesting story, definately 18+. Slam Dunk is a great manga if you even remotely into basketball.
Naruto, bleach, Death Note, One piece have all been really good mangas, far better than their anime counterparts.
I would recommend tengo tenje too, but it gets weird towards the end ( really makes you lose interest). There is a lot of fan service though

speaking of Berserk i had to post these.
You know a manga is going to be badass when it starts off like this

Berserk seems really cool and I see why people would like it, but the demon stuff doesn't really do it for me. Even Inu-Yasha was too much for me in that I just don't find it cool.
I really like the shonen shows which is kind of embarrassing to admit. I've heard a lot of good things about Death Note, but have yet to start watching it.
I like Bleach but it feels a lot like dragonball z in that whenever they encounter a bad-guy they can't beat they uncover some new level of skill/power that lets them win without breaking a sweat (super-saiyan, SSJ2, fusion, shikai, bankai, hollow form). I really like One Piece for not going there and not going into a power level kind of thing. I would not recommend Naruto to anyone, it sucks now.
As a general last statement here, I don't read too much manga it's hard to get into a schedule with it as opposed to anime.

The only manga I ever read was Rurouni Kenshin, and that was a hundred years ago. I downloaded it and read it on screen, I seem to remember that in order to make it more readable the scanner had mirrored the image before doing the english translation.

I would like to recommend BLAME...It's a kickass manga, very dark and edgy. The story is told mostly through images, there is very little dialogue, but it's such a great style. The creator, Tsutomu Nihei, emphasises a lot of focus on the incredibly massive architechture, and it is very well drawn indeed.
I really need to catch up on it, actually...

Berserk is a master piece. Yes it's violent, gory, & sexually graphic (lots of rape). But it's artwork and story draw you into it's medieval fantasy world like nothing else. I'm grateful that Dark Horse picked up to finish distributing it to North America uncensored. Berserk is not for the young, squeamish, or soft but it is well worth reading.
That being said here is a great place to get Berserk & other manga scans free: http://www.stoptazmo.com/
Now then, did some one ask for an sic Berserk vid?

Ouran Host Club is indeed epic, I don't care what anyone says.

I don't quite think Ouran is for everyone >_>
I'd go with Akira or DN Angel for manga.
