I think it's funny considering Jay personally told us to not allow links to the site in question to be posted. He said something along the lines of

"It's unethical and it hurts us."

I think there is a fundamental difference between supporting an early Diggnation site and say downloading ripped music.

In the latter case, any damage to the recording companies can not be established. Indeed, there is some evidence to suggests that file sharing actually boosts sales.

I don't think that it can be argued that a third-party early download site that is donation supported does anything to promote Revision 3's numbers. It doesn't promote the programs or drive download numbers from Revision 3. Indeed, every dollar that supports a TPEDS is a dollar that could be supporting Revision 3 and every person who downloads from a TPEDS is one less person who will download from Revision 3.

However, the fundamental reason one shouldn't support a TPEDS is that it just isn't cool. Kevin and Alex never said "Here, diggnation is free, have a blast." They said, "We don't want to charge for diggnation. But, if you like it you should pay for it." I don't see why this simple declaration gets ignored among all the mumbo-jumbo about what Kevin or Alex say...

Having sex with your sister might not be illegal, but it is still wrong.

I think that this wins the strangest argument in this thread.

But the point people are making is that no one ever said don't download it early. Just as long as you download it from Rev3 once its released theres no problem.

The only way I'm hurting Rev3 is by not paying the $5 membership charge that I wasn't going to pay even if ******** didn't exist. Either way I wasn't going to pay $5 for it so what does it matter if I get it early?

And to use what I just said above as a reference, people are pissed that Alex expects us to not do to them what he does with movies and television shows.

Those are the points that no ones answering. Here they are in summary if even that was too much for you.

1. We get its hurting Revision3 if we don't download from their servers when it is released to the public because we've already seen it through ******** we don't get how its hurting them if we get it early from ******** and then download it also from Revision3.com

2. Our argument for not paying the membership is exactly the same as Alex's argument for not paying to see a movie or a television show (and actually most of the primetime shows are on basic cable, so it is free). We know two wrongs don't make a right but this doesn't make a bit of sense.

And still the points remain unanswered...

phatlip12, we get it. You're a mod, even though you may or may not be qualified for the job and yes, Jay told all the mods and admins (Personally? doubt it, probably just made a post in the hidden section.) to censor posting of links that link to places that take numbers away from rev3.

I think everyone still posting in this thread agrees that not getting it from Rev3 hurts them via not being able to report as big of numbers. The unanswered question/point is does it really hurt them if someone downloads from another source and then downloads from Rev3?

Alright, this has gone on long enough and episode 102 has gone and past. Downloading episodes of Diggnation early without paying hurts Revision3. The CEO of Revision3, the show hosts and the forum staff is telling you this. You can take it or leave it.
