Due to extreme popularity and extreme levels of high octane awesome, the weekly General Discussion thread has been cancelled for the week of 6/20/07. Discussion of a General nature will resume next week in the General Discussion thread for the week of 6/27/07 in the weekly General Discussion thread. But until then, there will be no General Discussing, as such.
You can mourn in this mourning receptacle area. Or just shoot the breeze.

This sucks. If we were doing General Discussion this week I'd totally be asking you guys this:
With Summer officially starting on Thursday, what kind of summer plans does everybody have? Any vacations lined up? Any summer projects? How are you staying cool during these lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer?
I'm taking a week off next month to sleep

Just picnics, graduation parties and weddings. No big vacation since I used up most of my time off from work with the honeymoon. So I guess that was my vacation for the year other than the long weekend we are going down to Deep Creek Maryland for.
Maryland is nice. I've been through there before. very clean and friendly

I'm taking a few days off next week to attend Creationfest . It's a 4 day concert festival, think of Woodstock, but with crazy Christians instead.
Should be a good time. I'm going to be camping out the whole time, so that should be interesting. I haven't camped for quite a few years, so that'll be cool too.

Just makes me hate 'im more.
I was just thinking this morning about how Iron Man in World War Hulk gave America his Lou Gehrig speech, strapped on his tank armor, and went plowing right into the Hulk. Did he never think of, say, circling the Hulk and trying to talk to him for a couple of seconds? "Say, Bruce... can I call you Bruce? Is Bruce in there?" Anything? Use your words, Anthony!
sometimes you have to jump right in
the Hulk didn't look like he wanted to have tea and discuss it

I was just at ye olde shoppe picking up my books. While I wouldn't say I "read" it in any meaningful way, it looked like Iron Man this week-- SPOILER, I guess, ALERT-- is just a retelling of WWH #1 from Tony's point of view, for those of you looking to economize. The shopkeep also told me that Ghost Rider is a WWH tie-in in the sense that the Hulk is on like the last page. I couldn't see for myself, as the shop was shorted Ghost Riders this week, marking the first time the phrase "Ghost Rider shortage" has ever been uttered.

Based on the "chat" Blackbolt and the Hulk had, I think the time for discussin' was over when they lit the fuse on that rocket that sent Hulk into space.
What if there was a fuse to ignite the rocket? I picture the propane torch on Tony's armor going out. The Hulk starting to wake up. Mr. Fantastic flapping his rubbery hands and nervously whining that the Hulk is coming to. Finally, Dr. Strange, disgusted over Reed's nervous dancing, casts a spell that ignites the fuse. In the background Black Bolt silently watches the whole display shaking his head, embarrassed to be in the Illuminati.

But still, it's cool news to hear an hour before i leave:)

i was listening to the newest Around Comics today (a great episode by the way, check it out) and they were discussing Frank Miller. They also played snipets of an interview with John Byrne where he talks about Miller.
My question is what has Byrne done that given him such a bad reputation amoungst comic fans? I always loved his art and even some of his writting but it seems that whenever he comes up people always mention how much of a jerk he is. What'd he do? He seemed pretty civil on AC and was more than kind in his praise for Miller.
Can anyone answer this for me?

I always loved his art and even some of his writting but it seems that whenever he comes up people always mention how much of a jerk he is. What'd he do? He seemed pretty civil on AC and was more than kind in his praise for Miller.
Can anyone answer this for me?
Byrne is or was very active on his message boards. He would frequently ban people for disagreeing with him about anything. He has also used it and the media to feud with many creators (including Bendis I believe) throughout the years. He also seems to be of the opinion that he is the greatest thing ever to happen to comics.

Is it Peter David he's feuded with the most? I think so, if I remember correctly he and David had a long feud regarding some spoiler pages that were released somehow.

The most annoying PHR song ever was "Say my name" for me, until the holiday season when it became every annoying Christmas song ever recorded.
There was a long-standing Byrne/David feud. If I remember right, someone died in Alpha Flight #11. David worked in Marvel sales or promotion at the time. They gave him promotional materials to hand out at a con. Byrne claims that the pages spoiled the death and that David did it on purpose. David claims there were no spoilers and that Byrne approved the pages.
Why would David do it on purpose? God only knows. Byrne is a ****ing wacko.
That's right! Man I should know that, Alpha Flight after all.

Everybody should check out this fun flash game called A Walk in the Park (http://www.arcadetown.com/awalkinthepark/gameonline.asp). You play as a chihuahua leading an old man on a wheelchair (playing a banjo, naturally) through the park. Much of this involves jumping over chasms, using the old man as an anchor. Really simple. Just uses the arrow keys.

I am. The lad's doomed.
Here's my war story. I was on one of the islands. One of those islands we hopped. This was one of the even islands (though it was a little odd too). I'm carrying my buddy Mosquito across the beach. I feel a pain in my gut, and I put my hand down to see if there's any blood. Nothing. It's just my insides. My appendix. In the next three steps I'm out cold. Mosquito drops the leg he's been carrying and picks me up. They say he hopped me all the way to the medic before storming back into the jungle, screamin' and hoppin' like a banshee pogo stick never to be seen again.
I wake up in France. There was a nurse there. Now, Sixy, she didn't have three teeth exactly. But she had three of something. And for the next two weeks they were all mine. Should have been Mosquito's, but they were mine.

So I put a list of all the things I need/have, but it seems like the most basic things.
Does anyone have any suggestions, that someone that isn't a camper might not think about bringing?

What is your type anyway?
Well, while Darron is close, this particular woman is kind of pixie-ish for me. She's also a bit skinny and the hair doesn't work for me. I prefer more voluptuous women. I imagine this woman naked and I can see her ribs. Ribs aren't hot. You must be at least a size 6 to ride this attraction.

So, I've developed an inexplicable crush of sorts on the woman in the LG Steam Washer commercial.

Am I the only one constantly swooning after girls in commercials? There was one in a Tic-Tac commercial years ago...
She's cute. i like that commercial. I like her hair cut. :o

Remember when Angelina Jolie was adopting children? I was trying to be one of those children! Which would have been weird considering she would have been kind of like my mom with the adoption and all but still, it would've been worth it!:p
Plus there was the time I worked in the theater as a stage crew and there was an actress their named named Zoey Waits. man she had the sexiest voice ever! I've never flattered someone so much in my life but alas it was not to be. She was married:(

Zoey Waits. There's a cool name.
I wanted to be adopted by Angelina too. I like to think she would have named me Zephyr. Back in those Tomb Raider days.

No offense Esophagus.:DI'm sure I hate them more than anyone shopping there. I don't shop there. I'd rather there money goes to me, than vice versa. I'm still in the process of looking for another job.

Not at all, I've always got 5-10 fake girlfriends going at any given time.
But, yeah, a real one would probably be more fun.
