What are your thoughts on HBO creating a series from Martin's books? Personally I can't wait. Martin is my favorite author and it's my favorite fantasy series...and I've read a lot. I've always wanted to see them made into movies, but that'd pretty much be impossible. A series is the only way to go and have it be done well, and HBO is definitely who I'd like to see doing it. Between The Wire(best show ever filmed), Rome, Deadwood, and Oz, their track record is pretty much flawless in my eyes. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, do yourself a favor and go pick up the first book, A Game of Thrones right now, you'll be thanking me later.
Warning: Martin has the ability to make you throw a book against the wall with some of the things he does in them.;)

Tough crowd.
I love asoiaf, think it will be very difficult to film though.
Can't wait for a Dance with Dragons to find out what happened to Davos... I hope what was reported in a Feast for Crows isn't true...

I think it'd be damn near impossible to film as a movie, but it shouldn't be any harder for HBO than Rome was. Their plan is to make one book take a whole season, which seems about right for how much stuff takes place in his books. The good thing about HBO is that they seem to stay away from big name actors in their series, which I like. Davos is a cool character, I hope it's not true too, but I'm interested in seeing the Hound and Jon Snow.
I really thought there'd be more fans here. I guess they don't know what they're missing.

I'm very excited! I love how it's HBO doing it, too. That means the savagery will keep.
It's going to be hard to film - but who knows, it might turn out great.

These are my favorite books of all time so I'm really excited about this. I don't know how it can possibly live up to my expectations, but I think HBO has the best shot at doing it well.

I started reading Game of Thrones and got about halfway through it before needing an instant gratification fix of comic books (like the House of M trade), but I will finish it.
On the one hand I can see that it would be very difficult to capture the scope of the book(s) in a TV movie, but on the other hand I could easily see how it can be stripped down to its essential bits and make a compelling visual narrative. I would most be looking forward to the depiction of the Dothraki.
Of course, I don't have HBO, so this is another one to add to my bittorrent queue as it were.

Almost done with A Clash of Kings, and I'm LOVING these books. Can't wait for the HBO series, although books are far superior to television. But still, except for the next book in the book series, the TV series is the thing I'm looking forward too the most right now.

I think A Game of Thrones, and the second half of A Storm of Swords are the best. The action really picks up in a Storm of Swords towards the end. The battle at the end of A Clash of Kings is great, as is all of the King's Landing intrigue.
How do you guys think they'll do the direwolves? CG? Is tv quality CG good enough to be able to make them believable and the audience care for them? They're pretty important characters, and I just hope they don't end up looking like the polar bear in lost...

Great books. Love the series. I just hate waiting for the author to turn out the biblically long books.

Huh, I thought there'd be alot more fans on here.
Anyway, I just love these books. I'm 400 pages in to A Feast for Crows, but A Storm of Swords still proves to be my favorite. I literally cheered at the end (to keep it relatively spoiler-free, it just involves Tyrion and a crossbow). The TV-series isn't going to do it justice, but I can't wait to watch it anyway. I can't wait for A Dance with Dragons (I need to see Tyrion, Davos, Daenerys, and Jon).
Also, anyone interested in the sword line? They're making replica swords and weapons, with plaques to go with them to mount up on the wall. First thing they are doing is Longclaw. I am planning on getting nearly everything (big fan :P), but Ice, Longclaw, and Oathkeeper are my main ones. If they do different things the swords, I would just love to have the Hound's helm and the Dragon Horn that Crow's Eye has.

So what are your theories on John Snow's parents?
I'm pretty sure that Eddard wasn't his father, and that one of the Targaryens (sp?) was. Off hand I can't remember which one. I reckon his mother was Eddard's sister, who died while pleading with Eddard to promise her something.
I think that John Snow and Danearys (sp?) might end up cleaning up the mess up north (with the help of some dragons), and overthrowing the Lannisters.
I also think that Jaime is going to 'redeem' himself by dying while protecting one of the Stark children...

Rheagar + Lyanna = Jon
There's a possibility that Rheargar's son is still alive. So, maybe, Aegon (Rheagar's kid), Jon, and Dany are the 3 heads of the dragon.
Redeem himself...how? What did he do against the Starks? Sure, he didn't find her kids, but he sent Brienne out looking for them. Good enough, right? :P He has to redeem himself to the Targaryens. Maybe he should die protecting Dany, Jon, or Aegon (if he still lives).

Love the books, can't wait until the next one. Think Hobo will do a decent
job of it, might not have as many sub-plots, but I'll watch it. I just
hope GRRM as some say in the scripts.

Redeem himself...how? What did he do against the Starks?
Spoiler Below!
He tried to kill Bran Stark by throwing him out a window, but only leaving him crippled.

Read all of the books. And personally I don't want them to make it into a series at all.
If you only watch the tv series you will probably never grasp the full emphasis of what the books are.
Besides the books are always better anyway. Lets not ruin a good thing!

The books being made into a series doesn't really change anything about the books though.
Anybody know where I can buy hardback editions of the books? Has to be a place that ships internationally.
