When I had heard about the merger in 2004 I was actually pretty excited. I hadn't seen G4 but I do like some video games. I was expecting it to be be a great balance between the two networks. That obviously isn't the case now and G4 is an abomination. I was just wondering if anyone thought it was going to be a good thing in the beginning?

no i didn't. i never thought the idea of a whole network devoted to video games worked. the only reason charter (who owns G4) bought techtv was to get G4 into more homes.

I had a bad feeling that it wouldnt work out as i knew stuff would be cancled and such but over all i figured hey they have enough time in the day and enough shows this should be pretty cool.
Great shows and host they can make an awesome chan....
But it did not take long at all to realize it was a major downfall.

There was a time G4 was a good network they were as deicated to gaming as Tech TV was to technology not nearly as good as Tech TV but G4 had a few select good shows.
But the merging I was not happy about but gave it a shot..turned out worse than I could have ever imagined...

I was actually really excited when I found out that G4 and TechTv were going to merge. That was really the first time that I was going to be able to watch "Video Game Television". Tech and games sounded too good to be true and, in the end, G4 took over and things went kinda sour.

I was thrilled at the prospect of these things merging. I dug X-Play and though that a Television Network about videogames couldn't possibly work on its own and merging with TechTV would strike a good balance.

I was very excited because I couldn't get TechTV at my house, and when they merged, basically all the TechTV shows quickly became my favorites. The Screen Savers still ranks amongst my favorite shows of all time.
There was maybe a month period when G4TechTV was good. But then G4 even started canceling their own decent shows(nevermind TSS, and all the other greatness of TechTV), and it just didn't make sense.
G4 is now the poor man's SpikeTV, and the best thing they've done to date is playing Ninja Warrior re-runs.

I'd say G4 is the rich man's SpikeTV. It's only available on premium channels.

i've got basic cable and i got G4, so i guess it depends on what cable company you are with.

Yeah, just depends on your service.
And really, at least Spike tries some semi-original shows and plays re-runs of decent shows. G4 is Cops and Cheaters. There's a reason that even Fox doesn't play that crap anymore.

I was actually really excited about the merger, because I never saw G4, but heard of some of there better shows. I was expecting somewhat of a balance, and if anything more TechTV focused content. Unfortunately, What happened was G4 completely took over TechTV, tossed out all the shows except the more game related (like XPlay, which IMO was one of the worst shows on TechTV). What makes it worse is that they still link AOTS and TSS, like anyone really believes that it was a mere name change, the show is completely different and IMO like the majority of G4 only content, it sucks.

Then it started to play out like a scene from Wall Street.

TechTv already had a couple of gaming shows. I stopped watching TechTv the day after the merger. When it was announced everyone was being let go, I found no point. I mean, watching Patrick Norton and Leo LePorte and all the other people on all the shows, well, once that was gone...
So what do I do? Since finding revision 3, and dl.tv and Leo Leporte:In the lab, it's almost like having TechTv all over again. Fark G4, Fark them in their god damn ass.

The merger promised us Peanut butter and chocolate.
What we got was old cheese and Vegemite.

LOL, I meant that for "TV" purposes, not radio... Not saying that twit isn't good, I listen to a good bit of it, just going with the whole TechTV thing, not TechRadio, heh...:o
