I play World of Warcraft, which im sure a lot of other people here also do, and I'd like to know what kind of character Alex plays, and on what server. Anyone else who plays WoW should also post their chars.
I've got Garthos, a lvl 18 Dwarf Warrior on Scilla, and Auroris, a lvl 14 Human Mage on Blood Furnace.
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/ <--- so we can view each other's chars.

I respecced Beastmastery when I did the trial.. but this is my main, Yukihiro on Destromath.

Here's my main:
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Steamwheedle+Cartel&n=Mongerai
Though she's on hold at the moment while I level an alt with my friends and family.
My 60 warrior, de facto main, since I tank for my weekly group:
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/#character-sheet.xml?r=Cenarion+Circle&n=Baelgoth
My 61 'lock, formerly my main:
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/#character-sheet.xml?r=Cenarion+Circle&n=Peloquin
My 55 Hunter, actually my favorite char:
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/#character-sheet.xml?r=Cenarion+Circle&n=Zarzul
I actually hardly play anymore, except for my weekly group. I have other alts, but they are not worth mentioning.

Wow, that post is even more useless than the one I'm going to post:
I used to play on a European server, but then I realized that WoW is a horrible game.

i got a question for the WoWer out there.
how do you come up with character names? i've roleplay for close to two decades now and i have never been able to come up with a good name. my two most prolific characters have been named Bob the Elf (from D&D and Rifts) and Jonathan Swift (from Vampire)

You can kind of just look at the genre, faction, race, etc and pick out sounds that fit. Grab a prefix and a suffix and smoosh 'em together.
For example, for my undead warrior... I wanted something evil sounding so I picked a name of a demon (Bael) and combined it with suffix that I though sounded old and vaguely gemanic. Baelgoth.
The sound "zul" is all over wow in reference to trolls, and so I just came up with a short prefix and voila: Zarzul, the troll. If I could, I'd spell it Zar'zul.
As for Peloquin...er, well.. I ripped that off from a book. :)

I don't have a problem with coming up with some pretty generic fantasy names, here's some I can come up with now:
Elves: Alukai, Salaziath, Undriath, Kalinathaz, Malkatar, Zalasira, Mishkaniel, Adruarai, Melriana, Tuznias, Alaksia, Tienria, Ferensir, K'alasza
Dwarves: Melek, Gurak, Mordin, Kaktarir, Durak, Shamtir, Kunak, Tarek, Traklinn, Dormar, Kurim, Amakar, Turam
Gnomes: Brizzlewik, Dankindur, Zippleark, Turinstar, Dumo, Dak, Zumsirarara, Akalatir, Duptiaka
Orks: Morka, Mukah, Daku, Gormsh, Grumk, Taruk, Dunkar, Grimscar, Shaklin, Gr'rurin, Kamp
All pretty generic, but works fine.

I don't spend too much time thinking of a name, since the character will come to define itself with time and the name will already have its own meaning to the player and other players. So I look at indexes in the back of books for names sometimes and that's how I come up with names.

I make my names that somehow reference to my character race or profession without trying to be too serious...

Luckily Bento is a cool name!
I've been playing for almost 10 months and I wanted to call my character Ayla, because I was reading "The clan of the cave bear" at that time... Ayla was taken, so I called her LittleAyla. I wish I could rename her now though.
my main - lvl 57 Troll Priestess

Juber I made up when I was playing CS I think, don't really remember, and I went with Spike Spiegel (from Cowboy Bebop for any non-anime people here) just to be a giant idiot and so no one who seriously thought that name was a good idea would not be able to get it. I hate the name but I don't care, just a name, it's how you play that matters.
Also Alex, I hate to say it but you made it sound like you played a LOT of WoW, turns out you let me down :( Unless you have a real main that's 70 that you use to raid that you won't reveal because you don't want people bothering you while you raid or PvP. You don't have to tell us (me) the name but don't shatter my dream (dream of you being a real gamer, that's right, I'm challenging your man(gamer)hood)

I've been considering joining WOW for a while. Thing is, I've never played online anything before, let alone a sprawling, dense MMO.
Should I give it a pass, or is it a game a shameless n00b like me can pick up?
Also, I'm not sure how well my comp will be able to run it. My specs are:
Athlon AMD64 Dual Core 3800 - 1.99 GHZ
1.5 GIG RAM
What kind of video card should I get? I'm just running my motherboard's native card.
Thanks.
filch
07-05-2007, 06:30 AM
The WoW engine is very forgiving. You can run it perfectly fine on your system.
As far as the video card, find out what your budget is, then check Tom's Hardware. They've gone through the trouble of finding the best performing cards per price point. It's also sorted by AGP or PCIe.
http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/07/03/the_best_gaming_video_cards_for_the_money/index.html
Use the table of contents drop down at the bottom to skip to AGP or PCIe.
You should be fine on WoW, even having never played an online game before. You can totally solo most of the game if you like, and you'll pick up on the social aspects quite easily I think.

I've played WoW since retail. I actually took a 3 month break, but I'm bac k into it as a casual.
Level 70 Tauren Druid - Used to run flags for HWL groups in the BG's but now semi retired, only used for 2 boxing instances for my other characters. Won't take it serious until blizzard sorts out the malee range issues with druids in bear/cat form. Sux having to run in front of the person you're attacking just to make a hit count. Would be nice if there was an Oceanic based realm.
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Uther&n=Krasht
Level 67 Human Warrior - My first WoW character, which was retired for a while, until TBC came out. Slowly leveling when rested get's the 1.5 levels.
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Uther&n=Krashhed
Level 63 Tauren Shaman - My current main, which I BG with a lot. Slowly leveling it using the rested ;) Probably the most enjoyable class I've played. Maybe because they're overpowered and so effective against players with way more levels:)
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Uther&n=Krashtoo
Level 28 Gnome Warlock - Was inactive for quite a qhile, now playing it when I'm bored.
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Uther&n=Krashg
Level 26 Undead Priest, currently for my guilds 40-49 BG group. Priests are just so much fun, and the survivability in the BG's is awesome so far.
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Uther&n=Krashnoheals
Level 23 Blood Elf Paladin, currently leveling for the 40-49 bracket as well. Don't know if it'll last. Not that fun to play to be honest. Though, I did get consecration and did spec protection and have started doing the consecration mass agro leveling with my druid, not grouped, as a heal bot. Taking down 10+ mobs of similar level at the same time (Consecration+retribution aura+thorns) is actually pretty effective and fun sometimes.
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Uther&n=Krashpally
Also have a level 19 Undead Rogue (krashedd), level 19 Undead Mage (Edkiller), level 23 orc Hunter (Krashh), level 25 Tauren Warrior (krashed).

Hehe, reading these posts and some of it sounds so familiar. I tried to stay away from WoW for a long time, fearing it would consume me. I failed, it did, and here we are.
After trying nearly every race/class combo, both factions, on several servers, I landed on Shadow Council which is now my "home".
