Anyway back to my point. Joan/Jim/Jeff Jett looks like a man.

Play nice, kids. Wish I was a mod... sometimes..
and I use too many elipses...
so what...
Any way. Joan Jett is the hottest lesbian on the planet, not so much for her looks, but for her attitude.
And Circle Jerks kick ass, too... (yes I'm talkin bout the band, well... maybe not...) :)
There go those damn ellipses again...

Joan...Jett...is...so...hot...too...bad...she...is ...a...lesbian...because...I...want...to...hook... up...with...her...
And she does NOT look like a man. She looks more like a suicide girl. And isn't nine posts in a new record for quickest argument with another poster?

And by the way, is a circle jerk that isn't the band where you stand around in a circle and, well, beat each other off?

Yes and no. Sometimes you just stand in a circle and beat yourself off. One of those (reasonably) innocent teen things that satiate curiosity and then vanishes... you know, when you find hot chicks. (or whatever) Never saw anything gay about it myself, young men just need to know they're "normal" sometimes... Things work as they're supposed to, kinda like checkin out "size" in the gym shower. Not gay, just curious.
Boy, did this thread go down a rathole... Course it was doomed from "joan looks like a man" post anyway...

Ah, okay, thanks for clearing that up for me. I always prefered the variation half moon jerk, but that's just me. It makes it easier to position the group around some sort of pornographic image that way.

i don't have a degree in anything. the only way i have ever had a tech job was knowing someone. NASA is in the shitter, they have next to no budget and believe it or not there isn't alot of research money floating around. that means there are so many out of work engineer around here it isn't even funny. at this point i couldn't get a job at NASA again if my father was the vice-president.
on the other hand all you techie people if you want to start a......well a start up i would forget silicon valley and come to huntsville plenty of eager over quaiflied engineer that work for half the cost.

Don't bet that music degree with too much on it. The best thing about it, is it will probably help you get a job teaching music. But that might subsidise you while doing music on the side. Music degrees are one of those things that you could never stop working on, well not the degree, but music study itself. Unlike, say, medicine, it doesn't take attending university to gain the knowledge. Anyone can spend a lifetime studying music, regardless of an institute or degree. You'll find the degree doesn't mean much in the music world but will in the education/employment world. Hopefully when you get the degree, you don't stop studying.

i am majoring in music with a minor in technology. basiclly i am getting the chance to learn the programs and equipment used in studio recording. My father was a muscian and i grew up in and around the music world. He was even a member of the Grand Ol' Opry ( which means that i could join if i wanted to pay the fee and agree to apper at least twice a year). if i want to get into the country music scene all i got to do is make a phone call. i'm not the best bassist in the world be i still get a gig touring with one of those fake cowboys if i really wanted to.
i'd really like to product some day but if i never make to that level i will be more than happy being a lowy studio tech. which is why i am getting the degree

Oh. Way different to 'a music degree'. Learning recoring equipment and production is wayyyy better. I thought you were studying basic fundamentals of the chinese baroque era and stuff like that. That kinda stuff just drives you away from music. Tambourine tablature and the ethnic history of the low d whistle. Mind numbing stuff. Recording stuff is cool, good luck. Good money when you're done.

While I didn't study the chinese baroque period (because they didn't have one) I just went through a semester long class focusing on American Music, from slave songs to modern day, and I loved it. It just takes the right type of person I think.

You haven't lived until you have sat through Chinese Opera ... and while they didn't have a Baroque period per se, the Chinois stylised French colonial influence was an interesting period in their history from a musical perspective. It was the first time western audiences were ever exposed to chinese music and insruments ... and after listening to some of it, I wouldn't be surprised if the mongols didn't build the Great Wall to keep the music IN, rather than the popular notion that it was the Chinese that built the wall to keep the Mongols out.

A semester on american music sounds a little easier to like than 14 years of bela bartok being shoved down your throat. In comparison, I'd probably enjoy a casually ingested uni-filtered sweeping of american pop as well. Hard to listen to Ricky Martin when he's hot, but fun to talk about later.

I thought I'd gotten exposed to the 'usual suspects' when it came to traditional chinese instruments, through my love of kung fu flicks. But when I saw the extra footage on Kung Fu Hustle, and saw the soundtrack recording footage, I saw instruments in that orchestra that scared me. I saw one instrument that looked like it was hurting the man playing it, like a beautiful alien robot or something. Couldn't even tell what it was, didn't look like percussion, but I don't know how it was operated at all or what sound it made. I've always been curious about that. If anyone knows about -really- strange chinese orcehstra instruments, I'd be keen to have it identified.
just don't know how to google 'really strange chinese orchestra instruments'.
