I am looking to finally get my hands on a DS in the next couple of weeks, but I am ashamed to admit that I've never even seen one of these bad boys in person.
So, due to my lack of experience I thought, who better to ask then you fine folk.

What games do you recommend for a DS noob?
What games are the best of the best?
What games should I avoid?

Elite Beat Agents
Meteos!!!!
Trauma Center Under the Knife
Castlevania games

Does Trauma center have a long life/good replay value? I always thought it would be one of those games that gets boring after a couple of afternoons, and I've also heard that it gets insanely hard later on.
Would you recommend a rental, or is it a definite buy?

I wouldn't say buy it...and if you have a Wii, just get that version.

But it gets insanely hard.

And Elite Beat Agents is great. Extremely random.

Animal Crossing - The best part is the online travel to friends' towns.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - Almost as good as Symphony of the Night.
Clubhouse Games - A decent collection of games with online support.
Mario Kart DS - One of the top DS games, the best Mario Kart and online.
Meteos - The best puzzler since Tetris Attack.
New Super Mario Bros. - A great title in the vein of the original game.
Tetris DS - Has a Nintendo skin, some new modes and online.
Yoshi's Island DS - A great follow up to the original.

The DS is the best system out right now in my opinion. [next 360, then the Wii]

I'm currently having a good time with Sim City DS, Sim City is back on Nintendo! =)

I got it the system for games like Brain Age and Big Brain, I love those kind of games.. I need to pick up Elite Beat though.

and Mario Kart.... wow.. the best Mario Kart to date, if you can take the snaking.. which can KILL your left finger. Left handed people may have an edge.

The funnest you can have is more than 4 players over wifi, It can only be done on the DS. I've only got up to 5 players and that was enough to drive you crazy lol

But I lost my Mario Kart, the games are to small!!

Planet Puzzle League is a great addicting game. Its basically Tetris Attack.

Jump Ultimate Superstars is kind of like Super Smash Bros. Its a japanese only release so its import only for the U.S.

Elite Beat Agents is awesome.

Brothers in Arms DS is actually good.

Club House Games is a great one if you want an all in one type game. Has board games, card games, etc.

I have:

Tetris
Mario Kart
Super Mario Bro
Brain Age
Star Wars II Legos (DO NOT BUY THIS, the code in the game is F'd. Apparently they rushed out the DS version before it was done)
Animal Crossing (I think I'm still missing something?)

And apparently I'm bad at owning a DS for not having Puzzle Quest and so that is my next purchase.

Anyone wanna play tetris?? :)

I rather enjoyed Custom Robo Arena and Touch of the Dead, with the latter being a total non-thinking game.

I actually like Trauma Center: Under the Knife. It's got a nice story to it and if you suck at it you kill patients. yay?

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney and Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Justice for All (They are my favorite DS games right now. They may not have the action or over and over replay-ability of other games, but I had so much fun playing through them both I recommend them to everyone. I cannot wait for the third.)

Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime (I know it's cute and short and easy, but I honestly have so much fun playing through this. I just bought it on a whim but it was well worth it. If it's not your thing that's cool, but I love it. Giant tank battles people. Easy, but always enjoyable.)

Puzzle Quest (I'm sure we've all heard enough about why this is rad by now though, right?)

Etrian Odyssey (It's definitely the kind of game where you get out of it as much as you put in. I've been playing it a bit every night though and I keep coming back. Not for everyone, but check it out if you like that kind of open role playing type of thing.)

Elite Beat Agents (So much fun, and cursing... yeah, lots of cursing when I play that, but it's all good. In fact I need to bust it back out again and work more on the higher difficulty.)

New Super Mario Bros. (It should be obvious, but if you have any doubts about it rest assured it is as fun and challenging and colorful and just plain awesome as you expect a Mario platformer to be.)

Lunar Knights (It sort of reminds me of an arcade game. It's simple, but it's a lot of fun and it's not so easy that you're done in a day. Well I wasn't... I don't know what levels of mastery you've all reached.)

Hotel Dusk Room 215 (It's a point and click mystery game so if you're not into that sort of thing well then it's not for you, but I'm a sucker for a good mystery and I love the art style in this game.)

EBA is so fun that I was able to enjoy a level where I had to listen to Sk8ter Boi and that stupid Good Charlotte song over and over again.

It's got Bowie and Queen though. And Canned Heat.

Yeah Canned Heat is the best song in EBA, I couldn't stop laughing the first time I started playing it, because I was like, "HAHAHA that's the ****ing Napoleon Dynamite song!"

Maybe I'll make some EBA videos, I'm kind of bored right now.

HAHA I ****ed up so bad at the end of my Canned Heat run.

It's up on youtube now.

YES! I just scraped past the final song on Sweatin' by the skin of my teeth.

I liked the Dancing DS for distraction.

But yeah I think the Chief is the funnest difficulty of them all. The cheerleaders is just frustrating sometimes, but if you wanna pop in and have a good time with the game then you can just do the Agent Chieftan difficulty. I think I'll play that when I get home.

magunwarrior
06-30-2007, 01:23 AM
Well I've played through a few songs on the cheerleader difficulty and it's pretty damn annoying, the dots are smaller and it's harder to time, I'll get used to it eventually I suppose.
